To be annoyed at Prince Harry's memoir title SPARE

I have zero interest in this couple who seem to enjoy making a living on moaning about how they are poorly treated in Britain. Just saw the headline news and the cover of Harry's memoir with his face and one single word SPARE.

Get a life for goodness sake. I'm about his age and never once thought of him as a spare. He kinda invented his own tale.

That's a good indicator of how sour and bitter his book really is. It's only about trashing his own family. Victim mentality all the way.

Is it? Or is it about our strange love of the royal family, which is like he says, is the Trueman show, with added pressure and duties? All senior royals, except for William have spoken out against those behind the throne.

That is the nickname of second son, in aristocracy and royal circles.

Motorcycleemptyness · 27/10/2022 14:01

I thought it was funny. He’s not exactly a laugh a minute though, so maybe that’ll be where the comedy ends.

Interesting that he’s written a book as he’s not exactly famous for his brains, is he? I’m truly amazed he can even read. Hope he has a good ghost writer.

I’m a total republican but might get it out of the library for a gawk at all the tales of posh cousins marrying each other.

Thesearmsofmine · 27/10/2022 14:01

I think it is an excellent title, memorable and we all know what it means. Great for getting people annoyed on social media and getting engagement on posts about the book too 👍

Dishwashersaurous · 27/10/2022 14:02

Heir and a spare has been a saying about the offspring of British monarchs and the aristocracy as a whole for hundreds of years.

SuperCamp · 27/10/2022 14:02

It’s presumably a self deprecating joke.

And as for telling someone to ‘get a life’ when you start threads about people you have ‘zero interest’ in 🙄😂

derxa · 27/10/2022 14:03

I agree that it is a good title

Sarah2891 · 27/10/2022 14:03

He's a total self pitying, whinging tit.

MNMH · 27/10/2022 14:05

Imagine getting this worked up and coming to such bizzare conclusions over a TITLE of a book 😂

antelopevalley · 27/10/2022 14:06

QueefofSheena · 27/10/2022 13:33

I think it’s quite clever marketing. You’ve no interest OP, yet you have started a thread on it. I’d say it’s doing it job at getting attention.

THIS!!
Titles of books are about marketing. This is 101. Well done for promoting his book by the way.

The most privileged lifestyle on the planet shitty? Give me a break. He doesn't know what a shitty upbringing is!

And we have a “We took you to Stately Homes” thread for a reason..

some of the worst neglect and emotional abuse goes on in the highest of wealthy households but SS will never be involved. These powerful people do what they like as nobody steps in. The damage done often never gets fixed.

Viviennemary · 27/10/2022 14:08

I think people are losing interest in them and what they do. I think he has said it all already. Going over same old grudges. Not good.

WahineToa · 27/10/2022 14:08

Makes sense, that is the name he was known as and it seems like the right title. I’ll be interested to read it and I wish him and his family all the best. I believe everyone should have the right to shape their own life and tell their own story- nobody has to read it- and that principle I hold doesn’t change because of someone’s family, wealth, or ‘duty’. I find the concept of the British monarchy really dehumanising. I think you are enslaving a family and throwing them money and castles so they aren’t allowed to moan about it. I say fuck off to that. It’s mental. Good luck to him, his mother would love this book.

Isthisexpected · 27/10/2022 14:09

Really like the title personally. Surprised so many people have never heard of heir and spare. He's living his life as he chooses. Good for him.

twinmum2022 · 27/10/2022 14:10

Think it's a great title. Looking forward to reading it.

I don't know why so many people feel personally victimised by everything he does now 😂 well, I can actually think of a few reasons...

LuckyLuckyWoman · 27/10/2022 14:11

Nobody will have to buy it, it will be all over the news/internet

Mylakk · 27/10/2022 14:12

I also think the title is pretty good - I won't be reading it though.

That's despite being overly interested (in a slightly gobsmacked way) at the way he and Meghan have behaved over the last few years. They've started to get boring even to me. They have managed to make the remaining RF (that excludes Andrew) look great in comparison and it has managed to deepen my 'loyalty' towards them.

Worriedddd · 27/10/2022 14:13

Wow he sounds very bitter and photoshopped.

IWishICouldDance · 27/10/2022 14:13

He was the spare though. They only had 2 kids for an heir and a spare, I mean it was the only reason Charlie was with Di, a naive virgin to give the man in his mid 30s 2 kids to fulfil his role to provide the next in line. A sad tale really.

Topgub · 27/10/2022 14:13

Ach, I'm not a RF fan, think the whole lot should get in the bin.

And I particularly thought Harry was a cf moaning about being in the rf and then getting out but still wanting the status/money

But. I actually feel quite sorry for him and his wife and kids on a personal level having been frozen out of their family.

That must hurt.

2 sides to every story and all that, I suppose

Yep!

Suemademedoit · 27/10/2022 14:14

It should have been “SPARE - life when your diamond shoes are too tight” 🙄

There are actually some Royal dynasties where families really do struggle. Historically and in present times. I’m thinking of the Thai king and whatever shenanigans go on in his court; the Saudi royals; the princess of the UAE who escaped her gilded cage. They’re interesting because they’re so foreign and strange to the average Brit or American. fascinating insight into other cultures and what royalty means to their populations. I wonder whether Harry’s biography is going to be about him (meh), or about the British court and life as a British Royal (bit more interesting).

I’ll wait to read about it in the papers.

Fireballxl5 · 27/10/2022 14:14

I was pleased when H&M took the decision to pursue an independent life in the US. Seemed such a bold and refreshing move.
Except they haven’t.
Every penny they earn appears to be based on being royal.
They really don’t have any obvious talent imo.

Lalalolol · 27/10/2022 14:16

DailyMailHater · 27/10/2022 13:31

You might not of thought of him as “spare” but maybe that’s how he felt…..I have heard that was a nickname he was given by some in the family - being called that as a kid is gonna have an impact!

I don’t like him but can’t get wound up about the title of a book I am never gonna read

But the title tells you what this book is about. He may feel like a spare, that's fine but dont expect from people to pay to read that content, most of which we already know.

He is not the first spare but it's his privilege that he has an audience that would be listening to him. Many of us had bad childhood, in addition growing up poor, one golden child and one black sheep but how many of us have this audience who would continue to hear our stories and feelings?

So I personally don't want to hear his feelings and pay for it, unless he is ready to hear mine

hotdiggetydog · 27/10/2022 14:16

Why is anyone arsed about the royal family

Zott · 27/10/2022 14:16

It’s extraordinary how sorry he feels for myself.
