to think Rees Mogg doesn't use the normal date in his letters but just picks whatever day it is such as Christmas Day, Trafalgar Day or St. Crispin's day?

metro.co.uk/2022/10/25/jacob-rees-moggs-hand-written-resignation-letter-is-slathered-with-pretention-17633956/

This is his resignation letter. Most politicians seem to use a letter done in Word. Or similar. His is handwritten. Very hard to read.

And the date. Do you think he just looks in his diary, sees it's St.Crispin's Day and writes that as the date?

I'd be surprised if he does anything at all the normal way. He's an attention-seeker and that's how he gets attention. I look forward to seeing how he manages to get attention from the back benches.

JanglyBeads · 25/10/2022 18:47

It is a traditional thing to do, at least in some circles. You can write a cheque and date it Boxing Day 2022, or whatever.

Probably particularly popular amongst some High Church / Catholics because of all the saints' days.

Could be seen as pretentious these days though!

cakeorwine · 25/10/2022 18:51

I wonder what he does at work? Does he send memos out with Agincourt anniversary, 2022?

JanglyBeads · 25/10/2022 19:07

Agincourt anniversary isn't an official calendared day, so I don't think he would, no!

But would maybe write Corpus Christi, 2022, bc that's a set date in the calendar (8 June).

Dogsogdog · 25/10/2022 19:09

He’s a nob

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 25/10/2022 19:13

It's an attention-seeking affectation, just like everything else he does.

Hiddenmnetter · 25/10/2022 19:13

I expect that he uses a catholic calendar that has a recognised feast day for each day of the year. It used to be done this way more commonly, not so much these days. I imagine excel would return a #value error if you tried to enter the date as “St Crispin’s Day”

He’ll probably do more stuff like this to get attention - m.youtube.com/watch?v=iCNwXHaTDik

And try sorting it in Excel Grin

I remember reading about him dropping notes on the desks of staff working from home saying he was sorry to have missed them. He also doesn’t use a computer, just in and out trays. Seems to do a grand total of fuck all at work.

nonono1 · 25/10/2022 19:19

What’s with all the strange characters in the Metro article? I can barely read it!

NashvilleQueen · 25/10/2022 19:21

It's a total affectation. No one writes dates in that format. He's a tool.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 25/10/2022 19:23

Rees-Mogg definitely = formula error.

St Crispin's Day was the day that the Battle of Agincourt was fought, so R-M was probably trying to make some tedious point about English exceptionalism. Probably sees himself as the spiritual heir to Henry V, or some such crap.

AnorLondo · 25/10/2022 19:24

He does it for the same reason he does anything.

Because he's a cunt.

Lunde · 25/10/2022 19:26

Affectation and pretentiousness

His grandad was a lorry driver but he never mentions this

no, st crispin’s day is the 25th October, it’s a catholic feast.

I mean I don’t know if that is the usual way he dates his letters but it’s certainly not an invalid way of doing it, just not really usual these days.

TooBigForMyBoots · 25/10/2022 19:27

He's a morally bankrupt, attention seeking, twat. I bet he does it because he thinks someone will write a book about him.

I thought the same! How odd.

Just a tad!

Ablababla · 25/10/2022 19:30

he didn’t quite have the balls to use the full oldie worlde sign thought did he?

’I have the honour to remain your most humble and obedient servant’

Cornettoninja · 25/10/2022 19:30

He’s a Twat who models his Christianity on the Spanish Inquisition.

OoooSweetChildOMine · 25/10/2022 19:33

Why are all the "s" written like that in the article?

rocketfromthecrypt · 25/10/2022 19:34

God, what an absolute throbber.
