To think people should move to the left lane when not overtaking on the motorway?

I’ve been doing a lot of motorway driving recently and have noticed that so many drivers to not move over when they can. On a 4 lane stretch of the M25 today, there was a driver doing 50 in the third lane - massive gap in the second lane - it caused chaos - why not just move over?

The thread was about annoying drivers hogging/dithering. Not videos of Audi's or any other drivers whizzing in and out of traffic dangerously .Your comparison isn't equal really, is it?

Well that was until another poster came on saying how they intentionally tailgate.

I don't intentionally tailgate, it happens when dickheads swerve out in front of me and then slam on in defiance. But it's people like you who drive around fishing for incidents to report.

@RedAppleGirl I was replying to another poster, so if you don't like it don't read.

Although I suspect your just another driver whom thinks the law does not apply and your just annoyed people like me will upload your dangerous driving for review. Like I have already said if you have nothing to hide you will never know 😉

The smug and self righteous have inherited the roads.

YOU'RE. This has been pointed out once.

BIWI · 26/10/2022 16:50

This is the arrogance, as well as entitlement:

I aren't interested in what anybody else is doing as long as they're not making me have to change my speed or brake

In other words, you want to own the road. You want to speed up the outside lane without anyone having the temerity to pull out in front of you.

And to complement your pedantry, it's I'm not' rather than I aren't^.

The Highway Code agrees with me. You cannot pull into traffic and slow it down.

So In you mind any one who pulls into the outside lane as your speeding and causes you to wait or slow down is in the wrong 😂

No, it's not much to do with me really. It's the Highway Code.

Squirelnutkins · 26/10/2022 16:58

May be you should petition for you own private lane.

I have no issue with dashcams.
I'm not so sure this thread hasn't been taken over by socket puppets given the posts.

BIWI · 26/10/2022 16:59

This is actually what it says:

Rule 267
Do not overtake unless you are sure it is safe and legal to do so. Overtake only on the right. You should

check your mirrors
take time to judge the speeds correctly
make sure that the lane you will be joining is sufficiently clear ahead and behind
take a quick sideways glance into the blind spot area to verify the position of a vehicle that may have disappeared from your view in the mirror
remember that traffic may be coming up behind you very quickly. Check all your mirrors carefully. Look out for motorcyclists. When it is safe to do so, signal in plenty of time, then move out
ensure you do not cut in on the vehicle you have overtaken
be especially careful at night and in poor visibility when it is harder to judge speed and distance.

Clearly the onus is on drivers ahead of you to move into lane 3 safely (doh), but there's nothing about slowing down traffic behind them. Unless I've missed it?

It's right in the first few lines? Judge speed and make sure the lane is clear.

Squirelnutkins · 26/10/2022 17:01

@Revolvingwhore But if they are in front of you and they join the outside lane with sufficient distance between you to safely join the outside lane at the legal speed limit, they won't cause you to slow down will they. Unless of course you want to do 85+ all the time.

You're just wrong. The code is clear on this.

BIWI · 26/10/2022 17:03

Absolutely. But nothing there about 'don't slow down the traffic behind you'. Which is what you said. Yes they should be taking care, and it they don't, then they aren't abiding by the HC.

But you don't know the circumstances about why they've pulled into your lane, and it's your responsibility to read the road ahead of you and brake if you need to. Not drive up close behind them to tailgate them.

Revolvingwhore · 26/10/2022 17:04

You don't pull out into fast moving traffic.

Revolvingwhore · 26/10/2022 17:05

I would also add that if you make someone else change course or brake sharply on your test it's a fail.

Squirelnutkins · 26/10/2022 17:05

Revolvingwhore · 26/10/2022 17:04

How do you join the motorway or change lanes then, or should we all wait until the outside lane has no traffic at all?

Oh my God. I can tell from my mirror if someone is approaching quickly so I won't pull out. Mirrors quite easily show is someone is approaching quickly and your pulling out will make them have to brake. Come on, what don't you get?

Revolvingwhore · 26/10/2022 17:10

The bottom line is you dawdle when pulling out into fast traffic, then it is you being dangerous and it is against the Highway Code. But all you're after is footage, clearly.

If your abiding by the speed limit, then there will not be an issue unless some one really cuts you up, but you seem to imply that every one should work around / not interrupt your speeding.

No, you're wrong. You are not familiar with the Highway Code.
