Does anyone know about this? The government seem really keen to rip up everything. AIBU to be worried or is it not going to happen?

My DD told me that the Equal Pay Act is on that list too. Haven’t verified that though.

Quveas · 25/10/2022 16:21

Well a lot of people were discussing this even before the vote, and certainly since. Especially in terms of workers rights, few people realise how much we have benefitted from EU membership. But nothing to worry about. It's not like the Tories aren't on the side of the poor, workers and the disadvantaged, so our rights are in safe hands. Oh, wait...

DesMoulinsRouge · 25/10/2022 16:22

This is exactly what people were warned about during the referendum campaign.

Cavviesarethebest · 25/10/2022 16:27

It is absolutely horrendous.

totally bonkers.

the kind of thing that a 14 year old would understand won’t work

its insane. And shows just how absolutely lacking in basic intelligence the government under Boris was.

it is totally unworkable

I am really hoping that sunak is intelligent enough to recognise that this will be catastrophic for all parties - having a legal vaccine helps no one

I know. This is the freeing ourselves for EU laws we cheered for.

But you can't just abolish them without having replacements, it's mad.

Oh yes. I was one of those warning and being called a Remoaner peddling Project Fear 🙄

JocelynBurnell · 25/10/2022 16:33

Jacob Rees-Mogg had said that Britain could slash environmental and safety standards 'a very long way' after Brexit.

He said standards that were 'good enough for India' could be good enough for the UK.

The argument the Tories will make is that legislation and standards will need to go to make us globally competitive.

FixundFoxi · 25/10/2022 16:36

Sunak was in favour leaving the EU at school so obviously is no friend of the EU.
He's your common or garden small state low tax Thatcherite so expect ideological austerity mark 2 but without the tax cuts..

Dogtooth · 25/10/2022 16:37

All the people who took up the 'we have to cut EU red tape' line, this is what they meant.

monkeysmum21 · 25/10/2022 16:37

EXACTLY!
Now the British ruling class can do as they’re pleased and we won’t be protected by any European law. That was the plan in “the people’s vote”

Untitledsquatboulder · 25/10/2022 16:40

Yeah fun times ahead. Always makes me smile when posters start eith the "Brexit is done, get over it" shtick. It's only just getting started.

DesMoulinsRouge · 25/10/2022 16:42

Yep, if you think Rishi is some sort of saviour, think again.

DesMoulinsRouge · 25/10/2022 16:44

And they want to sell Channel 4 and shut the BBC up so they can't tell you about it.

DesMoulinsRouge · 25/10/2022 16:28

I don't think you quite get it.

The Tories don't want "replacements". They don't want anything.

Will of the people eh ?

MichaelFabricantWig · 25/10/2022 16:47

It’s all very vague on what actually will and won’t go if it gets implemented. Removing regulations may also lead to tariffs being applied to the U.K. in trading with the EU.

I started a thread about 4 years ago saying this would happen. I was concerned at the time specifically about reintroduction of pesticides that are harmful to bees. My family are beekeepers and worked with Newcastle University for years on projects concerning honey bees. I wasnt just making something up or repeating something I'd seen on Facebook.

I was told I was a stupid, thick scaremongering wanker, basically.

PeekAtYou · 25/10/2022 16:50

Many Tories these days call themselves Libertarians so don't believe in lots of laws and rules (ie government interference ) They won't replace some of the rules because they are indebted to the rich donors who would rather not have workers rights that we enjoyed under the EU.

DesMoulinsRouge · 25/10/2022 16:52

Yep, we will all have to tug our forelocks and do as our betters tell us.

The UK parliament voted for any and all UK laws before they became law. It would be a colossal waste of time and money to simply replace all those laws with new laws which are the same.

I didn't vote for Brexit but understand that being 'free' of all those laws is exactly what people were voting for.

Thankfully he’s now on the back benches again. And hopefully Sunak will ditch this along with the rest of Truss’ lunatic ideas.

UpToMyElbowsInDiapers · 25/10/2022 16:53

I guess workers’ rights don’t matter if we’re just going to let the world burn anyway. 🤷‍♀️

Yup, Sunak is no proponent of watering down brexit proposals.

unless, like most people, his politics have matured with age. Haven’t for the rest of the ERG lot.

Given the recent results of a colleagues theory in practice you’d hope some self analysis was going on. It’s not though.
