To hate fireworks and those who set them off

I had just gotten my two year old who is a very bad sleeper and is sleep regressing down and suddenly very loud fireworks start which of course wakes her up.

I am so tired I am ready to cry.

9.30 on a Monday night, it’s not Mardi Gras! Surely they have jobs to go to in the morning.

Also, I don’t have one but I feel sorry for the dogs as well, the fireworks must scare them!

Anyway writing that down made me feel better.

@MistyGreenAndBlue Not really no there's plenty of help out there and it's a few days a year. Most people get used to it 🤷🏽‍♀️

My what a nice person you are!

My daughters pony was spooked by a rocket, let off, by some brainless idiot, straight into farmers fields last weekend. The pony panicked and ran into a brick wall and broke her neck. She died, leaving a five month old foal, motherless.
Another horse in the same field suffered severe burns, from fireworks exploding. He had to be put down.

Absolutely devastating that animals have to suffer, needlessly, to satisfy humans “love of fireworks”.

Im so glad there’s help out there. Brainless, idiotic, clueless, barbaric, humans need all the help they can get. My only hope is there is someone who can help them wise up 🤬

I love fireworks and am very much looking forward to going to Battersea Park fireworks this weekend, but I don’t understand why just anyone can buy them. I think they should be banned for private use without some kind of license / paperwork (I’m not sure what or how this would work, just an immediate thought) or should be kept to organised displays only, and should be the quieter fireworks.

I am in the anti-fireworks-sold-to-the-public camp, and I actually love fireworks myself.

But seeing the fear they cause in others, sufferers of PTSD, those who have been in warzones, been in terrorist attacks, those who have had fireworks thrown at them or thrown through windows or in letter boxes or in cars, domestic and wild animals who cannot escape the relentless and random explosions... nope, it's no longer an appropriate way to celebrate anything.

We have many ways of celebrating light, we could restrict them only to organised events and sold only to those with a licence for such an event (which would require insurance, a suitable venue, the licence holder to be a suitably qualified person etc etc)...

We could use electric lights, laser light displays, silent fireworks.

I don't see how its necessary or appropriate to sell fireworks to anyone over 18 who wants them, and it is proven, over and over that it is impossible to police and govern how people use them once they have bought them.

I hate them too OP. Feel so sorry for all the animals who will be terrified (or worse) by them, and for people like you struggling to settle children. They're a bloody nuisance. I am a renowned curmudgeon but I really wish they were restricted to certain events. Diwali included yes-but they've been going off for weeks around here and I am not exaggerating!

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 02/11/2022 19:04

They're still going off now

Divali, Christmas, bonfire night, New Year, birthdays, Chinese New Year, Anniversaries...whatever..fireworks are awful. Scare animals, bad for the environment. Selfish. Celebrate in your own space.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 17/11/2024 11:03

Fireworks need regulating.

Their manufacture also cause a lot of environmental damage.
