To hate fireworks and those who set them off

I had just gotten my two year old who is a very bad sleeper and is sleep regressing down and suddenly very loud fireworks start which of course wakes her up.

I am so tired I am ready to cry.

9.30 on a Monday night, it’s not Mardi Gras! Surely they have jobs to go to in the morning.

Also, I don’t have one but I feel sorry for the dogs as well, the fireworks must scare them!

Anyway writing that down made me feel better.

Pretty though they are I wouldn't mind if they were limited to just the weekend of 5th Nov.

Some idiot set off fireworks in the middle of the pavement earlier. Luckily I was safely inside a bus going past. Not so great for the pedestrians.

I live in Dundee and our council have decided this year that there will be no public display (there's usually two in the city one east, one west). Dreading the amount of amateur garden shows there will be this year. Explosives should be for experts only!

Bl##dy fireworks still going off here too. My DD has been with her horses since 7pm. She’s still not home and has to be up for work at 6am. I can only hope everything is ok as DH has the car in work so I can’t check up onDD. She’s not answered texts so far, which is freaking me out!

But as long as people are enjoying themselves, lighting fireworks - not giving a thought to the destruction they cause - who gives a rats backside eh?

They were still going off just after 1am here. is it me or do they seem to be getting louder every year??? More to come too with 5th November, NYE etc etc. My dog hasn’t been too bad so far but I’ve got a friend that fosters for a rescue centre and she absolutely dreads this time of year. She’s looking after a particularly nervous old dog at the moment and the poor thing is petrified and cowering in the bath peeing herself. The vet has prescribed a sedative but you can’t keep using them every night. It must be terrifying for wildlife too. I think people that set them off are so bloody selfish.

I can't stand fireworks either. They are pretty but I don't cope well with the loud bangs. I feel for the humans and animals.

I never noticed fireworks until I had a dog who is terrified of them . Seeing his distress makes me want to ban these loud rockets types , not so much the fizzes and pops but the ones where it sounds like you're on an army firing range . As others have said it goes on for two weeks or so here so relentless.

What are your feelings on horses?

They went on all bloody night here. I'd love to see the sale of fireworks banned unless you have a licence proving you're not a selfish twat who will set them off in the middle of the night 🤬

Going off around here after 11 last night. Think my dog has probably had a nervous breakdown. I just wish they stopped at 8 so he could have some peace.

Personally I would ban all domestic uses and just have the big displays done by trained professionals at set times!

YANBU. People can buy silent fireworks if they really want to litter the surrounding area with post-explosive debris and detritus.

I hate fireworks too

we live rurally and they are so awful for local wildlife and all animals.

our village primary hosts a fireworks event every year, at the edge of the woods and fields. So far we have had horses escape in fright, running around the main road with one getting killed. The sheep in a panic, getting themselves all tangled in barbed wire, a couple of sheep died

local cats and dogs running away from home, getting killed on the road

it’s just horrible and I have not even included any affected humans here

They are basically explosives being sold with out much restriction on who can buy them , I can't go and buy a box of shotgun cartridges without the relevant licence

place for animals in places like that.

I was simply making the point that we can’t simply ban things just because we have an issue with it.

And you hate all of them? And you dislike wildlife because a squirrel stole your sandwich once? Or did a blue tit look at you in a funny way last Wednesday?
