The Tories haven't pushed back on it. Have you read their recent stuff wrt schools and prisons?

Tell me, what do you think labour will do to ensure that women retain single sex spaces?

TheNosehasit · 26/10/2022 11:10

If it's any consolation the Tories have made it illegal to teach the concept of 'white privilege' in schools as though it were irrefutable fact.

No idea. However I do know that KS and others in his party have said they'll protect single sex spaces and the Tories gave single sex spaces away.

How can KS protect single sex spaces when he clearly says that some men who identify as women are women? By the very nature of that, changing the meaning of the word women, it is not possible for him to protect single sex spaces.

L1ttledrummergirl · 26/10/2022 18:14

Under the conservative government the erosion of women's spaces is well underway. The tories just ignore their own part in things and seek to cast blame elsewhere. The whataboutery on this is really annoying.

When Labour come into power, we can have open and honest debate about the issue and perhaps as a result halt the incursions into women's spaces as a result. I'm prepared to fight that battle when the time comes.

In the meantime the damage being done to women and children by this conservative government is clear and obvious and needs to be stopped now. This is the battle we have to fight at this time.

It’s nice you have such faith in labour. I live in a very safe labour seat and can attest their complete disregard for women and children is evident.
Their historical and current participation and continued silence on the child exploitation in my area is evidence of this.

I absolutely agree with @SuspiciousHedgehog

Put it to the country.

This is how I see things too. I’m concerned about identity politics and the erosion of women’s safe spaces, especially as a mum of 2 girls aged 13 and 10, but for now the priority is to get the Tories out. They’re doing too much damage to the lives of people in this country.

We need a GE now however I look at this.

General election now! He has no mandate, and is only in office because the members couldn’t vote. Many of them openly saving they didn’t want an Asian in power!
He’ll be doing his first u turn soon I imagine when he has to sack the evil Braverman!

Yes absolutely. Those poor members need their say! They should not be forced to endure an Asian in power!

Kolarbri · 27/10/2022 09:02

@GCAcademic You’ve spectacularly missed the point!
The members wanted mordant. The price for sunak getting in was to have Braverman back. She’s the darling of the far right of the party , and will do their bidding!

That's tough for the members. We all have to suffer austerity now, so they can just suffer living with their awful racist thoughts.

Croque · 27/10/2022 10:47

I blame the people who allowed the members say to become so powerful. It is widely known how the extreme right moved in like sharks as soon as they discovered this opportunity to be heard. When people queried the fall of the extreme right, it was later discovered that they had simply moved into the Tory Party. It is such a broad church now that it it bursting at the seams. Having a single, meaningful manifesto to cover all Tories is impossible.

Croque · 27/10/2022 10:49

A part of the reason why they really loved Boris is that he was reported to have made a number of racist comments of a nature which directly appealed to them (although others feel that they were taken out of context).

MarshaBradyo · 27/10/2022 11:01

The racism is awful. I hope Rishi does well despite it.

Yeah, he has to try and balance the various factions or he's fucked. We'll all be the losers, as Braverman hasn't got the ability to do the job well, but that's the parameters under which Sunak has to attempt to operate. He leads an incredibly divided party with a right wing who don't prioritise either stability or party unity.

This will come as such a shock to some.

Racism runs through tories like blackpool rock. Not all tories, but you can't take them out without total dismantling

It's essentially how they have hung onto power. Speaking to racists. Dog whistling. I live in a labour stronghold, one thing that unites the tories here, xenophobia. Only a minute minority for economic interests, and those are getting fewer.

Even racists gotta eat, you see.

I wonder what does a racist eat actually? Pie and mash? Fish and chips?

MarshaBradyo · 27/10/2022 11:29

It is though only one party who has had a British Asian leader so at least they’re ahead on that.

But yes a fair bit of racist reaction but sadly I think it’s stoked by some who’d like to see him fail.

Croque · 27/10/2022 11:30

Or do they serve Wagamama katsu curry - 'all that forrin food spoiling our PR stunt' 😂

In many cases, whatever the foodbank has in.

A cold winter could freeze the ideological fires for many, though.

Growing up in the Welsh Valleys, Labour since year dot, will always be Labour, with racism also running rife through the community.

How would you blame the Tory party for that?

Even in labour strongholds, there's usually a Conservative presence, there used to be a far right presence too, but the tories have since mostly absorbed these.

Who do you think votes for them, in working class towns where the majority vote Labour?

Recently, that is what has swelled Conservative supporters in these areas.

It's fairly obvious to see how it's played out, from mainstream media down to door step approaches by tory candidates

Ok, so the racists on the Welsh Valleys are secret conservatives?

Have you ever been to a valley town? They are red through and through.
