People are having real trouble accepting that a brown person is also a wealthy, right wing Tory. He would not get the flack if he was elected to lead the other party.

Yes he would. A man with that kind of wealth leading the Labour Party would have every right wing media outlet constantly on the attack.

Hmm The Labour Party which has never elected a non-white, non-male leader? That Labour Party?

I'm not a Tory, but come on. Labour has managed to elect a more diverse set of MPs but not to give any of them the top job.

Sir Keir rose to the best barrister of his generation

I would not be so sure about that one.

Pretty damn good one though with a conscience and a lot of pro-bono work. He would have certainly got through to Judge's Houses if there had been a Legal XFactor!

I am brown. Tory PoC's hate PoC, as we have seen with Braverman's defence of Empire. I hear what you say but I would still rather have Starmer.

Dontwanttoberudeorwastetime · 26/10/2022 08:52

A good old-fashioned honest man, citizen, husband, father and politician.

Have you heard his “honest” answer when asked if women should have access to male free spaces?

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 26/10/2022 08:54

Oh fuck yeah, you wouldn't be able to move without champagne socialist comments. And honestly, any billionaire leading during this cost of living crisis would be a walking political target. None of which is to say Rishi isn't facing plenty of racism, but not because a white person in his situation would have their wealth go unremarked.

derxa · 26/10/2022 09:13

Whereas Sir Keir rose to the best barrister of his generation. a hugely respected DPP and has remained loyally married to his NHS occupational nurse wife and two children without a whiff of corruption or affairs and pay all their tax owed in this country. A good old-fashioned honest man, citizen, husband, father and politician. Something most of the Tory party has left far behind.😆
Mrs Starmer is an ex barrister who works in NHS occupational health. Not 'a nurse'. Although I don't know what's so magical about being a nurse.

Thanks for the clarification. His wife is indeed lovely if somewhat reluctant to share the limelight. I'm sure they will be very happy living in No 10 with the property and furnishings and won't be looking to live elsewhere or spend small fortunes on makeovers.

If he ever gets elected. Which I doubt. A vote for Starmer would be like turkeys voting for Christmas.

Oh yes he’s already attacked just for being a Sir, a knighthood he earned rather than bought with a party donation.

I've heard his answer. He says men can identify as women. Which means that if he got in to power, women will have no protections or sex based rights. Safeguarding for children will go out of the window. He could be described as a good old fashioned sexist woman hating man, citizen, husband, father and politician. Who cares very little about women.

Tokenism. Insidious sort of racism prevalent on the left where minorities need to know their place. And that place is not at the top.

I am GC and it is comments like this that have turned me away from the GC groups I was part of. Hyperbole is not helpful when you're discussing sex based rights.

How is it hyperbole? He says women shouldn’t have access to male free spaces. If he gets into power, your GC views will become illegal as will your sex based rights.

Don't really need to investigate the minds of all Tory PoC. Just the ones at the top. Braverman. Priti Patel. Kwarteng. Kemi Badenoch. No thanks. They tend to overcompensate to prove themselves and out Tory the white Tories.

I doubt you are gender critical or ever have been. If you were, you wouldn't be saying this.

It is quite obvious to any fool that once women's safeguards are relaxed enough to include men, then women have no sex based protections anymore.

And if self ID is on the table, we will see more of this playing out in schools, a place where children should be protected and nurtured, not a place where girls are taught to drop their boundaries and accept that boys are girls if they say so.

With sexual violence soaring in schools, why would anyone want to make that easier? Unless they have an anti safeguarding agenda. Which includes positively affirming young children to transition and destroy their bodies and potentially their mental health.

The Tories have exactly that.
Rapists on women's wards? Brought to you by the Tories.

Women reported to thr police and their employers for retweeting JKR? The Tories did that.
Predatory male sex offenders in women's prisons? Yep, Tories did that too.
Natal schoolgirls told to wait while transgirls use their facilities? Tories. Their new Minister for Education is TWAW.

PoC make up the bulk of the poor in the UK. As a first generation immigrant from a former British colony, I won't vote for Tory anti-poor, pro Empire, Brexiteer, racist policies. Not even if they disguise them with token brown people like Braverman.

Not keen on Labour's policy on transwomen, but am hopeful that with increased debate things may evolve. Tories never will.

Yes this has happened under the Tory watch. And there's a huge push back on it. Mermaids, NHS England new guidelines, school guidance, companies leaving stonewall and so on. After all that hard work, why would women then vote Labour and let all this hard work be undone. And find themselves in a far worse position. Labour will completely roll back women and child safeguards. Tory are terrible. They are. But Labour is an absolute disaster for women. We need a new party that everyone can get behind. Not this. Not labour.

TooBigForMyBoots · 26/10/2022 10:44

The Tories haven't pushed back on it. Have you read their recent stuff wrt schools and prisons?
