This is not democracy.

as long as he behaves with integrity,
unlike the previous 2

I dislike Rishi less than I dislike most of the other MPs. I just hope he can bring a bit of stability in the next 18 months.
I think he seems a relatively clean cut guy. They’ve really tried to dig up dirt on him and the tax evasion stuff appears to be the worst of it. As it is his wife’s money, I’m not going to condone him “putting his foot down” and dictating to her what she does with her own money.

Maybe I’m just deflated because I don’t see a credible contender and won’t have anyone to vote for even if they do have a snap election.

Seriously. Fuck off with this bollocks! I don't give a shit if you declare yourself the Queen of fucking England! FGS. Is this going to be our Waterloo? Where women can pee or where men who declare themselves women can pee? That's the foremost concern in your tiny little mind? That's going to be the question that sends our economy back to fucking prehistoric times?

You do realise that our economy has been described as being on a par with emerging market economies?

Jesus fucking Christ.

OMG. I give up.

I understand your frustration but it’s more than that.
For example, a woman was refused life saving treatment recently because she requested female only after care (the surgery was on an intimate area and she had traumatic experiences that made it very uncomfortable for her to have males perform this care).
It wasn’t cancelled because the hospital didn’t have enough female members of staff to facilitate her request. It was cancelled because they “disagreed with her values”. She is now critically ill.

This is way more than where we pee.

Blossomtoes · 25/10/2022 08:06

The uglier things get the quicker we won’t have a Tory government and the longer they’ll be out of office. Short term pain for long term gain. Works for me.

Krabapple · 25/10/2022 08:07

This is not democracy as although you vote for a party not a pm you do vote for their manifesto. We have had 3 pms with wildly differing manifestos. Hence the mess we are in now. The Tory party are imploding and the country is left to pick up the pieces. You can’t keep changing the leader until you get the best fit. Rishi was not the choice of the party so how can he now expect loyalty and support?

MarshaBradyo · 25/10/2022 08:10

Kissing I get why you are worried, a few posters said this a while back and no one wanted to hear it, too focussed on Covid media.

The issue is the markets did not like the Truss version and we can’t afford lower pound and higher borrowing.

Labour would face same issue. The only leader and chancellor the markets will tolerate is one who balanced the fiscal situation.

SuspiciousHedgehog · 25/10/2022 08:13

I think you misheard

Tory voters, especially those in traditional Labour heartlands, vote tory because they dog whistle to their racism. Its certainly not in their economic interests.

Surely your marvellously bonkers far right friends can explain a bit how the turkeys are persuaded to vote for Christmas?

Rishi is not centrist. Nobody in the Conservative party is centrist.

Labour are especially centrist right now. My psycho far lefty friends want nothing to do with Starmer

justasking111 · 25/10/2022 08:23

Friends with small businesses who struggled post covid to get staff are now getting emails and cvs from people looking for work, some second jobs. Six months ago employees were bullish pay rises, continuing to work from home.

I wonder if big business are finding this is happening too.

That’s odd because the news is full of small business owners in hospitality and retail who are having to curtail their opening hours because they can’t get staff.

toomuchlaundry · 25/10/2022 08:31

Maybe it depends which area you are in

BasiliskStare · 25/10/2022 08:37

Well l , I know I shouldn't but I wonder between Starmer's " magic wand" and Boris's "lick down" ( both quoted from above ) they could not have formed some sort of coalition.

Probably inappropriately jokey but inter alia on this thread it's about as sensible as some posts

That is a very balanced and considered post. I am an optimist but honestly I can’t see a way out of this quagmire. There isn’t a good option - left or right. It could have been a softer landing than the one we are going to get, a gentler version I suppose. We are now going to have to grit our teeth somewhat.
And some.

His wife is choosing not to take British citizenship - which is hers to take as it would affect her inheritance rights to huge amounts of money. Her father who has 2 children is estimated to be worth $4.4 billion making them the 41st richest family in India. They are the 222nd richest family in Britain with an estimated wealth of £700 million. The man who thinks you scan a debit card at a petrol station filling a car that you don't own.

toomuchlaundry · 25/10/2022 11:01

@vera99 and if you were in the same position as the wife would you take British citizenship?

Also Keir Starmer is not exactly a pauper and is worth quite a few million (obviously not in the same league as Sunak, but also not in the same position as most of us)

vera99 · 25/10/2022 11:04

These are the facts that voters will have to consider when they cast their vote in the next election there is an obvious conflict of interest there. Sir Keir is worth peanuts in comparison. Absolute peanuts and it's irrelevant what I would do as I'm not standing for PM.

Starmer recently pointed out in Parliament that he has a mortgage.

Well, well removed.

I like Rishi. Good luck to him. We should all wish him well and stop this stupid narrative about 'dark forces' and ulterior motives. Maybe he just wants to do the best for this country.

FixundFoxi · 25/10/2022 22:33

You like him ? How so ?
Because the tories don't engage in any kind of skullduggery ? Brexit being a perfect example of honest discussion of all the benefits and disadvantages🙄

Yes, so they’re rich. What’s your point? Is this news to you?

toomuchlaundry · 25/10/2022 23:00

Kier Starmer has a higher net worth than Boris but this doesn’t seem to bother people

derxa · 25/10/2022 23:01

RS has decided not to include his family in this media circus. Well done

If you believe that any tory wants to do what is best for the country then good luck to you.
