This is not democracy.

How can a consultant doctor on 300k a year know what it's like to have a sick child?

Should we go down the Jobcentre and start recruiting a PM there? They'll surely understand what it's like and do a good job as PM?

Seriously?

I will also add, why wouldn’t someone in a job centre be a good PM?

unless you’re suggesting that money in the bank automatically makes you better at these things?

MayThe4th · 24/10/2022 17:28

I’m sick to the back teeth of hearing about it.

Rishy is PM. For the next two years at the very least. And as things currently stand labour are unelectable because they have no policies. Keir Starmer actually said on BBC yesterday that he wouldn’t divulge his manifesto. Anyone who has already decided to vote for a party with 0 policies is an idiot.

And no. “He’s not going to tell us what his manifesto is because the tories would steal them” is absolute bollocks. If he had any policies, then he would tell us what they are. But he’s too busy saying that he’s not a tori so that’s all that matters. Well it isn’t.

I have never voted for either of them. But while some tori voters will not vote Tori, a lot won’t vote labour either. So don’t be surprised if they don’t win the next election.

False equivalence!!!!

It wouldn’t be a problem if Rishi Sunak actually demonstrated he listened and understood what it’s like to be on an average salary. Then we wouldn’t care whether he wore Prada.

However, he doesn’t listen, and just spouts on about “tough choices” etc. that’s the danger of having governments who are surrounded by and lobbied by very rich and powerful people. They get out of touch even though they’re voted in by citizens, not banks or corporations.

You make me laugh! So you’d put in charge someone who hadn’t a clue how high finance worked so they could ‘feel like us’. The whole point of success in personal life is that you’ve proved you’re capable.

Holidayexpert · 24/10/2022 17:28

Just for clarity, I think Sunak is a cunt. I hope he’s hounded out, just like truss and Johnson was😃

If this is a reflection on how the majority think democracy should work then we're all fucked. Let's hope that doesn't turn round and bite you in the arse one day.

What's bitten me on the arse (or worse) already is a government I didn't want for the past 12 years- which has decimated the health service I need access to and my children's education. But that's democracy for ya.

Seriously though, I'm not sure how you understood my post because I didn't check it and had no time once posted as the thread was moving too quickly! I'm not sure I understand it myself, but the basic point I was responding to was that it's not Sunak making life much harder for the middle classes. What about Truss and her tax breaks for only the very rich? What about Truss messing up the economy? What about Johnson and Brexit that we all (including middle classes are paying for)? Don't blame it on Sunak because he is brown.

It's remarkable that someone could be proud tory for all these years and in all that time never noticed that they didn't elect the PM. Just by coincidence the first time they notice is the first time the PM isn't white. Suddenly they can only be pushed so far.

100% agree with this statement

I'm amazed at the people still wanging on about the lockdowns. If you were in the US you'd all be proudly wearing MAGA hats.

If you want a look at what happens when built up areas with decent public transport systems don't lock down (i.e. most of the UK) I suggest the example of New York City in the early days of covid.

Again the average age of death for COVID even in the early stages of pandemic was 82.4 higher than total life expectancy. What a farce.

NCFT0922 · 24/10/2022 17:34

How things have changed! He was adored during the lockdowns by the people who got to sit at home all day doing naff all whilst receiving their furlough pay and their SEISS grants!

MangyInseam · 24/10/2022 16:40

I don't know.

The claim is always that the Tory party, and Tory voters, are racists.

Whatever you say, it's never enough. Lots of non-white MPs? A non-white leader? etc - It's always the wrong evidence. They are sing the person as a fall guy. He was chosen by MPs, not members. They are only superficially non-white. They are worse than white guys anyway.

It's bizarre.

www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/sep/27/rupa-huq-has-labour-whip-suspended-after-kwarteng-comments

A Labour MP has offered Kwasi Kwarteng “sincere and heartfelt apologies” after being suspended from the party for describing him as “superficially” black during a fringe meeting at conference.
Rupa Huq had the party whip suspended for making what was accused of being “racist” comments about the chancellor.
The former shadow Home Office minister was recorded at an event held on Monday on the sidelines of Labour’s annual conference in Liverpool hosted by British Future and the Black Equity Organisation and also attended by the party’s chair, Anneliese Dodds.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Huq said: “I have today contacted Kwasi Kwarteng to offer my sincere and heartfelt apologies for the comments I made at yesterday’s Labour conference fringe meeting.
“My comments were ill-judged and I wholeheartedly apologise to anyone affected.”
Huq could be heard on a short recording obtained by the Guido Fawkes website saying: “I’m sorry if I was not making myself understood clearly. He superficially is a black man.”
She said Kwarteng went to “the top schools in the country” and added: “If you hear him on the Today programme, you wouldn’t know he’s black.”
Huq faced swift condemnation, with David Lammy, the shadow foreign secretary, telling BBC’s Politics Live programme: “I think those comment are unfortunate. I wouldn’t have made them myself and clearly I hope Rupa apologises and retracts that.”

It's not a loophole. It's tax legislation that has existed pretty much since Income Tax was introduced.

Why not look it up and spend a worthwhile 10 minutes educating yourself before you post any more asinine, tedious drivel?

Holidayexpert · 24/10/2022 17:36

Aye! I listened with my mouth open driving home from work to a Tory voter who said the people in his area were concerned that sunak wasn’t fully British!

mathanxiety · 24/10/2022 17:38

Again the average age of death for COVID even in the early stages of pandemic was 82.4 higher than total life expectancy.

So do you agree with the 'let them pile high' approach of Boris Johnson then, and the excess deaths don't matter as long as it's the old who die?

It's not just fabout the rich either.

I've earned income from a country which is not the one I live in. Not astronomical income, rather shitty poorly paid income.

I don't want to pay full taxes in both countries either!

You don't pay tax twice. There are double tax treaties with most countries meaning you only pay the highest rate in either country. So if the tax rate is, say, 20% in India, and 40% in the UK, you'd pay the 20% to India and a further 20% to the UK, total 40%.

IstillloveU · 24/10/2022 17:42

OrangeCinnamonLatte · 24/10/2022 16:43

Can the country afford a general election at a time like this ? We need parliament to actually get on and do their job. I'm far from a Conservative voter but we need stability in parliamentary business.

That's exactly where I stand too.

Badbadbunny · 24/10/2022 17:43

He certainly wasn't adored by the 3 million workers (10% if the workforce) who he excluded from the covid support schemes!

Quirkyme · 24/10/2022 17:43

@Proudtory

Hate it when people use the word "ethnic" I this way".
I think the correct words you meant to use were "ethnic minority"?

The word ethnic means relating to a race of people. We all belong to an ethnic group so using the word "ethnic" in the way you have makes no sense at all.

IstillloveU · 24/10/2022 17:43

Believeitornot · 24/10/2022 16:45

The MPs did.

at least we know who they are. It’s more dodge when it gets to the membership.

Out of interest, can we see a list of who voted for each of them? Or just the numbers?

You are really trying hard to push the false dichotomy but it’s not working. The elderly should have been locked down, shielded, quarantined, call it what you will. Healthy workers keeping the economy running as normal.

‘Don’t kill granny’ argument was as pathetic then as it is now. It wasn’t a choice between killing granny or killing the economy. It was a an obsession with restrictions by people who liked being babied and the government spending big. The austerity coming down the road, to pay for lockdowns, will kill far more grannies. Let that sink in.
