Continuation from last thread, for those of us following all the action on Monday.

And yes I'm a LOTR fan, so tried to continue the theme in the thread title 😉

@Mirabai - I don't think they are only offenders, so these stories are pretty selective. A better question is who does adhere to security protocol!

Do you mean countries or institutions? (like GCHQ) - I agree with you either way - literally everyone is at it. I was trying to focus on what’s known and proven (rather than conspiracy myth).

Reported today that Sunak will go to the COP27 summit, despite telling us many times he wouldn't.
i hope those saying Starmer would lack integrity if he rowed back on SM, will also now say Sunak has none, should he go.

Apparently because Johnson is going!

Why on earth is Johnson going, since he doesn't even turn up to the House of Commons due to his many holidays? It's just to schmooze a bit with big people, isn't it? So they don't forget him.

LizzieSiddal · 31/10/2022 08:02

I can just imagine Johnson trying to literally, barge his way into every photo opportunity.

InMySpareTime · 31/10/2022 08:05

How is it appropriate for Boris Johnson to be at COP27 but inappropriate for KC3?

@Mirabai

Good post..

The idea that the foreign secretary is not aware of this, and doesn’t have security training and provision is absurd.

I've seen comment by some who have facilitated such training that a few in High Office/High rank tend to be disinclined to fully engage in such training or perhaps think it doesn't apply to them at all...it's only something that applies to the junior ranks or grades.

Whether that's a factor in the current case...don't know.

Or they know all their comms are monitored and want off the record conversations.

countrygirl99 · 31/10/2022 08:43

I know someone whose husband is a very senior cyber security consultant, advises several governments. Years ago he was giving a talk to MPs and senior civil servants and was able to tell one MP exactly who he had sent emails to from his official email that morning. They all went very white faced in shock and an enhanced cyber security budget was approved very shortly after. Sounds like they need another session .

This, and countrygirl's post, are all too unsurprising, alas.

People really don't get it until smacked in the face.

"Security" is just annoying red tape which gets in the way of folk doing their Real Job – until the shit hits the fan, and everyone asks how they let it happen.

TokyoSushi · 31/10/2022 16:06

Two things:

  • Sunak will fold and go to COP27 - He'll fold on a lot of things if they're not popular.
  • Braverman will be sacked. It'll take Sunak longer to do it than he should.

DH works in information risk management and is appalled at this foolishness. It's like they live in the 19th century

Send in more clowns! This is just the tip of the iceberg.

It's already gone into a comms meltdown in No 10. No change it seems. And Tories still briefing against Tories.

It’s only been a week and no confidence letters are being drafted already apparently.

LexMitior · 31/10/2022 16:39

They all need a bucket of water thrown at them and bromide in their tea. They are so messed up they can't remember who they are supposed to be disloyal against.

Blossomtoes · 31/10/2022 16:43

I think they’re just addicted to the drama. It’s been going on for so long they can’t imagine life without it. They need a few years in opposition.

titchy · 31/10/2022 16:51

Shock Do you have a source for that?

Noooooooo!

Honestly, I know this will mean no Tory govt the moment the country gets a choice – possibly for a generation.

But this is the government! The UK government!

Stop it stop it stop it!!!!!

Fucking adult-up and do your fucking jobs.Halloween Angry

This is because none of these folk have even base level security... let alone SC or DV.

If they did, they'd be held to account and dismissed from their jobs, never to return... like the rest of us.

Braverman has apparently said she needed to use her personal phone for when her official one was being used for VC meetings... she is either focusing on the meeting in hand or she shouldn't be wasting her time on it and phoning/emailing her friends.

Only Twitter which is why I said apparently.

PerkingFaintly · 31/10/2022 17:14

I earnestly hope that it's the claim that letters are being drafted which is the actual pot-stirring here. An all-too-credible lie merely to provoke drama.

Rather than that letters are, in fact, being drafted.

So I hang fire on believing that.

Blossomtoes · 31/10/2022 17:18

I agree @PerkingFaintly. Unfortunately nothing this bunch of tossers does surprises me any more.

sunnydaytoday0 · 31/10/2022 17:29

Well Braverman's performance in the commons right now isn't going to do her any favours..

Yep & If she is correct that the asylum system is broken, then she and the Tories broke it.

DuncinToffee · 31/10/2022 17:53

Suella Braverman, who describes the petrol bombing of an immigration centre in Dover as "shocking" and says her "thoughts are with all of those affected", then goes on to describe people arriving in the UK as "an invasion on our southern coast."
