Ds (14 months) has been having a bad cold and high temperature for 5 days. I just took him to A n E because he's just sleeping and csl%ol and nurofen aren't really bringing the temp down significantly and he hasn't eaten anything for days. Anyway we spent ok afternoon there and they checked him over and said it's just viral (probably rsv) and he should be better in a few days. I asked them when to worry and they said no wet nappies, lethargy and cold hands and feet.

We've been at home for an hour and now he's worse than ever. He's having chills. His temperature is 40.3C and his hands and feet are cold. His skin is mottled. I have just given him nurofen again and he's sleeping now. I don't know what to do. Surely if they've just seen him it can't be that serious right? Chest, ears and throat they said are fine. No UTI.

I'm sure if I call 111 they'll send me to a n e. They always do for small kids. Ugggh.

There's too much other shit going on as well but I'm really worried for Ds.

Take him back to A&E.

ofwarren · 22/10/2022 20:42

Oh course you can and I would too in your shoes Flowers

Gunpowder · 22/10/2022 20:42

He’s got worse. Go back to a&e. Don’t feel guilty. You are his advocate. It’s ok to be pushy.

Highfivemum · 22/10/2022 20:43

Go straight away to A and E. Don’t take chances with a little one. They do get it wrong and it is better to be safe. Good luck

Whowhatwherewhenwhy1 · 22/10/2022 20:43

Go. Sepsis is a real risk and it's not worth the risk of wait and see

IhearyouClemFandango · 22/10/2022 20:43

Mottled skin and cold hands and feet? I'd be worrying about sepsis and be straight back there.

Parrotpretty · 22/10/2022 20:44

Take him back

Marmee53 · 22/10/2022 20:44

Yeah don't even bother with 111.

It's hard going back and forth to the hospital, but remember you're doing what's best for your child.

Follow your instincts.

Hockeyboysmum · 22/10/2022 20:44

Straight back

Mangofandangoo · 22/10/2022 20:44

They do usually say if there is any worsening of symptoms to go back. I would in your position

Newpuppymummy · 22/10/2022 20:44

He’s got worse including some of the symptoms they said to worry about, take him back. And I’m the kind of parent who says jump up when they fall over!

Parrotpretty · 22/10/2022 20:44

The cold hands/feet and fever need checking again.

Mustnotbeleftblank · 22/10/2022 20:45

Of course you can and should go back.

Nodinnerdate · 22/10/2022 20:45

Please go back and good luck x

DogsAkimbo · 22/10/2022 20:45

A&E without a doubt, and as soon as possible.

LuffleGro · 22/10/2022 20:45

Take him back.

I asked them when to worry and they said no wet nappies, lethargy and cold hands and feet.

ImTheOnlyUpsyOne · 22/10/2022 20:45

I think you should go

Dsisproblem · 22/10/2022 20:45

Take him back. Things can change.

IStandWithMaya · 22/10/2022 20:46

If in doubt, please go.

lawandgin · 22/10/2022 20:46

No hesitation, straight back to a&e. He's red flag for sepsis.

StrataZon · 22/10/2022 20:46

Worsening symptoms. Back to A&E

blanketyblank97 · 22/10/2022 20:46

Take him back, I'm hoping you're over reacting and would love that to be the case!

But just go, please.

Xx

listsandbudgets · 22/10/2022 20:47

Yes go back. Small children can deteriorate very quickly so what may be obvious now may not have been so a couple.of hours ago.

His hands are warm now but his feet are still cold. Is mottled skin an issue? The doc there said that no matter how high his temp goes it's nothing to worry about
