Liz Truss has resigned. Part 3: The Return of the King?

sunnydaytoday0 · 21/10/2022 10:40

Continuation from last thread.

By Monday we could have a new prime minister, and by next Friday at the latest.

Will Sunak win this time, or could Johnson get his old job back? Would the Tory members once again go against the wishes of the MPs?

And yes I think Johnson sees himself as some sort of world king..

Any MP that can’t get behind a leader that won a landslide and is the only hope of getting re elected SHOULD resign and join the Liberal Democrats. The moment is fast approaching - a lack of loyalty will have consequences.

There have been none for ignoring the whip 2 nights ago, in fact it appears that instead of losing the whip Johnson may be getting promoted.

Ridiculous

Live flight tracker for Johnson's flight:

Layover in Antigua and back in to Gatwick in the morning.

Fly path not far from the Bermuda Triangle..

To be fair Russia/China would vote BJ, as would the Tory members so maybe no major security threat.

Most of the Tory members on the list could be in Russia and China, for all we and the Tories know.

I wonder if MI6 knows. Or cares.

Like Charles Walker, I am utterly sick to death of this shambles.

Well, that flight number isn't showing up on flightradar at the moment so fingers crossed.

Hate to break it to you but it's still on the way, running late..

Try searching for the ATC callsign - BAW16PA

BA2156 is the Flight Number, which is a different beast, more an admin/timetable thing.

Liz Truss could be entire to £115 k per year as an ex Prime Minister.
A job she did for 45 days. £115 k a year of OUR money.
It stinks.

urbanbuddha · 22/10/2022 07:44

@notimagain

Aargh! I can see it lurching towards us.

In contrast with the amount she’s cost the country in 44 days £115k is change down the back of the sofa. It’s worth it to get rid of her.

CaveMum · 22/10/2022 08:04

Going to be pedantic here but ex-PM’s don’t get given £115k every year. They can claim back up to £115k for costs associated with work connected to being an ex-PM - secretarial staff, travel costs to speak at forums, etc.

Not saying it’s right, just pointing out its not a free lump sum they just get given.

According to the BBC, previous PM’s claimed as follows in the last financial year:

Both Mr Major and Mr Blair claimed the full amount for 2020-21, Mr Brown claimed £114,712, Mr Cameron claimed £113,423 and Mrs May claimed £57,382.

Who is Charles walker backing?

Given his ‘talentless cabinet’ remarks, not Mordaunt?

I’d have thought Sunak? But he may surprise me and want Johnson back.

cakeorwine · 22/10/2022 08:37

Just checking in

Can't believe we might have to resurrect the 'fall of Boris' threads.

Still - he's an ex for a reason. And will he want to be an unpopular Prime Minister with all the economy decisions.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 22/10/2022 08:37

surprising that rishi's 5 names after 100 are not named

BirmaBrite · 22/10/2022 08:43

The Elephant in the room is Brexit, it is having an impact of the UK's growth and someone anyone needs to start having an open and honest conversation with the population about what needs to happen to ensure growth stops being impeded by it.
I don't think Boris would or could, not sure on Rishi. I think the Conservatives are looking at limiting the damage to the party, so losing at the next GE, but keeping a decent amount of seats, let Labour deal with the awkward conversation and any changes going forward ?
The question is when would the next GE take place ? Too soon and the Tory's are toast.
They really need to hold their noses and vote for whoever is going to get them through the next year or so, hopefully without giving Labour a landslide at the next election, whoever they choose, they need to stick to, if they try to get rid of another PM ( or lose one due to them no longer being allowed to govern ) in this term, they will have lost what little credibility they have left.

BirmaBrite · 22/10/2022 08:44

Has Sunak actually confirmed he is standing ?

TokyoSushi · 22/10/2022 08:58

No not yet @BirmaBrite

Going to be an interesting weekend, I reckon if Johnson gets to 100 he'll return 🙄 but I don't think he'll declare until he's sure that he will. There is absolutely no way on Earth he'd want to be seen to lose, anything, ever.

TokyoSushi · 22/10/2022 08:59

Imaging if Sunak said, nah, I'm not bothering actually!

So they make sure to claim most if it then! Wtf does Cameron need to spend that much on?!

BirmaBrite · 22/10/2022 09:07

@CaveMum that 115k is seperate to the pension isn't it ?

Do we get a TV debate with potential candidates explaining how they would solve the problems facing the UK?

I think they said that if it goes to the members, there will be one tv debate.

MPs have a private hustings on Monday where the declared candidates state what they'd do.

At the moment, the MPs are supporting potential candidates based on guesses about their direction and their personalities.
