Please please please see the bigger picture. Many 1000s of people are going to die of cold and hunger, commit suicide from the stress of losing their home. 1000s are going to be homeless. 10000 children will go hungry at least once a day. I wear my terf badge with pride but have to prioritise the harm to women caused by the fuckers in government against the harm caused by the awfulness of self ID and all that goes with it.
I hope to god that Labour wakes up but currently the death and abject misery of many people means currently the focus has to be on protecting the most vulnerable. A disproportionate number of whom are women.

It wasn't a three line whip. The govt fudged it to make their MP's think it was and side with the govt, but it wasn't in actual fact. Hence why there was such confusion and people being physically forced into the 'No' lobby.

Good lord the behaviour though, worse than children. They need the Head of Year 9 to give them all a good talking to first thing tomorrow morning. Parents need to be called in for a meeting. What they shouldn't be allowed to do is continue to govern, we don't allow riotous overgrown teenagers to run the country for a reason. There must be precident for this? What does a nation do when the government just collapses?

This is a very valid point - is this a relatively recent thing, for MPs in the commons to actually (openly in the commons, am sure they all do it in private all the time, on all sides of the political spectrum e.g. Brown and that bigoted woman...) sneer about members of the electorate who they are elected to serve? (As in past 5-10 years). Similar line of thinking as the Tories under Boris / right wing press labelling the Supreme Court Judges who worked to stop them illegally prorogue'ing parliament as 'enemies of the people' or whatever they called them, and demonising lawyers who work to help asylum seekers with their claims. I'm pretty sure I'm only talking about Tory politicians here and it shows their utter contempt for the democracy they are supposed to serve.

But why would Graham Stuart have been tasked with announcing the unsuspending of the 3-line whip? He's a Minister of State (for Climate Change). It should have gone to the Chief Whip. I'm not surprised she resigned on the spot.

Stuart was asked in the house, minutes before the vote, whether this was a confidence vote and whipped or not, and his answer was along the lines of 'that's a question for party management, not me'. Tory MP who asked, not an opponent. There was also a Tory MP who he gave way to who said that he was completely opposed to fracking and vote ordinarily have voted for the amendment, but because he'd been told this was a whipped vote he was going to walk through the 'No' lobby.

It looks to me like the govt did originally tell their MP's this was a whipped vote, but at the very last second possible dropped that and did their best not to make their MP's aware, in the hope that they would dutifully filter through the 'No' lobby even if they were entirely in favour of Labour's amendment.

Exactly what I said to my son this evening!! Unfortunately the casualties will be 1000s of vulnerable people 😢

It's absolutely farcical. The Tories just need to give up, but then they will be handing over a carcass of a country to whoever is in next, and that's fucking wrong too. I hope they never get to lead the country again. I won't be voting for them.

Surely it’s got to the point now, where the decent people in the Tory Party should say enough is enough - appoint Hunt to temporary PM just for the sake of getting rid of Truss and a temporary ceasefire - and call a General Election for before Christmas. They’re not only harming the country, they’re making a mockery of government itself and completely destroying people’s faith in politics.
