This looks a lot like the death throws of the UK as a significant world power.

Agreed

Igotjelly · 19/10/2022 20:27

I agree this is seriously dangerous. It’s highly entertaining but it’s our democracy in its death throes.

sunnydaytoday0 · 19/10/2022 20:28

Physically manhandling someone and dragging them into a voting lobby is surely assault?

Conservative MP here speaking about how he’s had enough.

@the80sweregreat the communities that will want fracking will be the ones offered 'incentives' (aka money). Maybe more will go for this option if there are big spending cuts Angry

MarshaBradyo · 19/10/2022 20:29

I can’t even be entertained by it. Too much madness.

lannistunut · 19/10/2022 20:29

It's not the death throes of our democracy, it's the death throes of the Tory party.

the80sweregreat · 19/10/2022 20:29

Ahh! Money talks ..
why didn't I realize this ?

After a robust interview with Steve Baker MP I used a very offensive word in an unguarded moment off air.
While it was not broadcast that word in any context is beneath the standards I set myself and I apologise unreservedly. I have reached out to Steve Baker to say sorry

I agree the UK’s democracy will survive, but the country’s economy and standing will be forever diminished.

Catlady2021 · 19/10/2022 20:32

Honestly, watching this isn’t good for your mental health. Watching 650 poor quality weasels squabbling and shitting on one another. A nest of vipers.
The majority of the government are a load of backstabbing , self serving arse holes.

I can’t take much more of this shit. I need to switch off from this for a while.

BirmaBrite · 19/10/2022 20:33

At the very least against some sort of Parliamentary code of conduct ? If they coerced into voting is the vote still valid ?

Igotjelly · 19/10/2022 20:36

They were interviewing a long standing MP on BBC News and he was saying it isn’t unheard of for there to be robust encouragement in the voting lobbies. This is a bit extreme but politics is and always has been a dirty business.

Jourdain11 · 19/10/2022 20:37

Whipping basically is coercing people into voting 😂

Apparently Walter Harrison used to knock blokes up against the wall and squeeze their balls.

Not sorry Grin

But Baker is a cunt. No need for apologies there IMHO Krish.

Jourdain11 · 19/10/2022 20:40

Apparently the D Chief Whip walked out saying he'd had enough and he couldn't take it any more (plus expletives).

It's like Brexit Wars. I remember Labour went crackers for one of the meaningful votes and had MPs coming in to vote in ambulances on a three line whip, as if there was ever any danger of Theresa May getting her deal through 🙄

EdieLedwell · 19/10/2022 20:40

What did Kristan Guru-Murthy call James Baker?

A cunt I believe

Jourdain11 · 19/10/2022 20:42

He called Brexit Baker a C-U Next Tuesday (soz to be prudish, but I really don't like that word - for Baker though....)

Devist · 19/10/2022 20:42

In Liz Truss’ ultra-safe Tory constituency today…

ThreeFeetTall · 19/10/2022 20:44

Why don't we have electronic voting? then no chance for all this childishness

EdieLedwell · 19/10/2022 20:44

Wow! Well he's not wrong, but still...

We have it in the Scottish parliament, it’s just buttons. Works well and is much quicker!

It's really unprofessional actually.
