Andrew Neil at afneill
Liz Truss actually won the vote on fracking in the Commons last night. It is part of her special magic that she managed to make it look like a chaotic defeat.

That sums it up so well.

Dave20 · 20/10/2022 11:28

Is Liz typing up her resignation letter as we speak?…
If she’s still PM by the end of tomorrow I’ll be surprised.

RedToothBrush · 20/10/2022 11:46

11.45am.

The lunchtime news cycle about to start. Timing is everything...

ParkheadParadise · 20/10/2022 11:47

This country is Fucked.
Why do MP's vote for an arsehole then weeks later want rid of her to vote another arsehole in 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️.

CounterQueen · 20/10/2022 11:48

Or, if you are Nadine Dorries, re-vote the first arsehole back in…

FourForYouGlenCocoYouGoGlenCoco · 20/10/2022 11:52

Ooh breaking news on the Guardian (for us woke tofu eaters…) - Graham Brady has just gone into No 10 to see Liz Truss.

FourForYouGlenCocoYouGoGlenCoco · 20/10/2022 11:52

Ha snap @Notonthestairs!

Rinoachicken · 20/10/2022 11:54

Brady just been quietly let in to the back entrance of no10 apparently

Rinoachicken · 20/10/2022 11:54

🤣

clyspa · 20/10/2022 11:54

Can someone list the options for after liz?

Igotjelly · 20/10/2022 11:55

I really really worry about where this goes. They aren't going to call a snap general election, it would be political suicide. So what we'll end up with is another shit, lame duck head of government and no real change.

Right on cue! Enter stage left!

She's potted isnt she?

TokyoSushi · 20/10/2022 11:56

Argh! I have so many meetings today! Reliant on Twitter and Sky News on silent in my office!

TokyoSushi · 20/10/2022 11:56

And you lot of course!

Most likely according to what I've read - Rishi or Penny. However if they have long term ambitions they may think it's a poisoned chalice and that they'd be better off writing things off now and taking it up as leader of the opposition with a view to getting back in power in 2027-ish.

Can someone list the options for after liz?

Mordaunt (nearly as bad)
Sunak (hated by the right)
Hunt (needed by the markets as Chancellor)
Wallace (needed by the US and Ukraine in Defence)
Shapps (chancer)
Johnson (even bigger chancer)
Baker (erg token idiot. More liberal part of the party will actively defect)
Javid (apparently shit)
Gove (ship has sailed and has more sense)

Shall I keep going or is that enough?

Blossomtoes · 20/10/2022 12:00

Whose turn is it now?

Technically the MP's picked Rishi - it was the wider party membership that picked Liz.

If I was Rishi, I’d lie low for a bit until all the non-dom/backstabbed controversy died down, and then make a heroic comeback in 2027… (not a Rishi supporter btw, just trying my hand at writing some political satire!) But in all seriousness, I think he should bide his time and make a calculated effort to come back in a few years’ time as the hero of the hour, once the economy has hopefully recovered a bit, as the next few years are going to be grim…

Pippa crera at pippacrera
BREAKING: Sir Graham Brady has gone into No 10 to meet the prime minister - not a pre-planned meeting.

No 10 sources claiming that Liz Truss asked to see Brady, rather than the other way round.

Notonthestairs · 20/10/2022 12:05

Maybe Truss is looking for a way out?! Heaven knows I would be.

Blocked · 20/10/2022 12:05

Goodbye Liz, then. Just watched this interesting video from Led by Donkeys, if anyones not familiar with the significance of 55 Tufton St it explains it quite well. twitter.com/bydonkeys/status/1582734658596634625?s=46&t=y9Xl-JXVEvhmt98hxVkrpA

When is Braverman making her statement?
