The Govt is collapsing. Now is the time for the public to start putting pressure on for a general election.

greenhousegal · 19/10/2022 22:38

Chaos. And to look at them in the chamber you would think there was nothing at all wrong. Sometimes I wonder if it is all stage managed.

Catlady2021 · 19/10/2022 22:41

It can’t continue like this. It any MP from the conservatives really cared about the country they’d call for a GE.

I can’t see any other way out this mess. It’s actually becoming painful seeing Liz Truss carryon on. Her husband really should advise her to go.

FourForYouGlenCocoYouGoGlenCoco · 19/10/2022 22:44

This is unreal. It’s embarrassing that Suella Braverman and Kwasi Kwarteng barely lasted a month in their jobs.

sunnydaytoday0 · 19/10/2022 22:45

Braverman’s resignation statement in the Commons tomorrow should be.. interesting.

Lord Frost openly calling for Truss to resign.

FourForYouGlenCocoYouGoGlenCoco · 19/10/2022 22:45

www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-politics-63320605 Charles Walker for PM 🙏 I know he’d never stand for PM though, which is a real shame.

Careful, I nearly got lynched for misogyny when I suggested a marital intervention yesterday.

Lord Frost also thinks there should be a GE, I never thought I’d agree with him on anything.

TheABC · 19/10/2022 23:16

It's an open question if Truss still has the confidence of the House. The Government managed to carry the vote this evening but it was an utter mess.

They can't continue like this for another two years.

Lonelycrab · 19/10/2022 23:23

Two days would be pushing it at this rate.

miceonabranch · 19/10/2022 23:44

I wonder what tomorrow's thrilling instalment will be 🤔

Will Suella Braverman be PM?

Will JRM defect to Labour?

Can Therese Coffey get away with smoking her cigars in the Ladies?

sunnydaytoday0 · 19/10/2022 23:47

This comment made me laugh:

Now we know what Truss employed Coffey for - her bouncer!

Peston has just done the Jeremy Cunt thing 😂

Maybe I’m being OTT here, but surely the chaos and confusion in government can’t be good for national security? We look weak and right now we are weak, we’re increasingly isolated, we’re entering economic crisis, I don’t know what or who exactly I’m afraid of but surely those countries and groups worldwide with malign intent towards us must be rubbing their hands at this insanity?

crostina1 · 20/10/2022 01:22

I fully expect some dramatic defections to Labour.

It's not. It's terrible.

I think that we British think that these things are charming or excusable because somehow we're different than other countries. We're not. Just imagine what would happen if there was such chaos in another country, and how the news would handle it.

It's profoundly unpatriotic to be this dysfunctional and fucked up. But that's what happens when people, over and over again, put party in front of country. If the Tories were at all patriotic, they'd have called a general election weeks ago. But instead they cling to their jobs, as if the party faithful and not the national interest matters.

It's very fucked up, and that's not a partisan statement.

crostina1 · 20/10/2022 02:16

@Nancydrawn

Exactly. That typical bullshit British Exceptionalism

The anger and sadness in his speech was very moving.

But at the end of the speech, what he's worried about is not the country or the people, but the Conservative party and that Conservative MPs might loose their jobs and find paying their mortgages hard.

MPs mortgage payments are the very very least of my worries. They could...get another job like everyone else would be expected to.

MarshaBradyo · 20/10/2022 07:37

Hopefully she’ll be gone today. Who knows though

Govt is now treating last night's chaotic vote on fracking as a confidence issue, according to a 1.33am (!) update from Downing Street

Tory MPs who abstained can 'expect proportionate disciplinary action'. Usually that would mean whip stripped... but these aren't usual times

Adam Bienkov at adambienkov
Yesterday Downing Street said the fracking vote was a confidence vote. Later the Climate Minister said it wasn't.

In the middle of the night No 10 messaged journalists saying it in fact was in a confidence vote. Now the Transport Secretary tells Sky News that it wasn't .

Today starts off in much the same way as yesterday ended.

This only forces the issue more...

Those at the only two tweets I've looked at so far this morning.

Kellie45 · 20/10/2022 07:39

I can’t see how Liz Truss can survive. A pity as she had all the right intentions for making Britain a tiger economy but the wrong way of going about it. Now all we are left with is stagnation and of course an even worse stagnation when Labour get in. Lower living standards for everybody

They can't remove the whip from all the abstainers. They'd lose Ben Wallace, the defence secretary, for a start. As well as massively eating in to their majority.
Also I think the (now reinstated) chief whip didn't vote either. Is she going to remove the whip from herself..?

hesbeingabitofadick · 20/10/2022 07:43

Ben Wallace won't lose the whip. He's in the US.
