To have had tears in my eyes watching Mark Drakefords outburst today

The all encompassing anger he obviously feels towards the Tories and what they’ve done to our country, was something I feel so strongly too.

I found it so refreshing that someone in UK politics, who regardless of whether you agree with his politics or not is undeniably principled, has finally spoken out in this way

Reading some of these comments which are personally abusive and use of bad language, seem to reflect our people in government so are in no position to judge our leaders.
It's not a problem of government but society in general.....slag off those you disagree with rather than talk and find the best in people.
What example is this for our children.
How many on here voted in last election, and who would you like their job?

Is this the same Mark Drakeford who put Wales through some of the most punitive lockdowns across the UK? And he has the gall to talk about others destroying the country?

This 100%, he's orchestrated a lot of the damage that's been done

CrazyLadie · 21/10/2022 13:54

I don't live in Wales but I love Mark Drakeford, some of the onterviews he has done and the way he describes the tories is spot on

Gumbal · 21/10/2022 13:56

Why can't he be PM?

hay5689 · 21/10/2022 14:09

I find it strange how people are impressed with how he deflected a question regarding why an elderly gentleman was waiting for an ambulance for hours. The opposition are there to call out the governing party and what Davies did is no different to Starmer calling out Truss and to be expected.

Exactly you don't live in Wales so you don't have to watch him wasting money on needless things. £4million on a farm for a festival, £52million on Cardiff airport which is now worse than before they brought it, £2million on upgrading A&E waiting rooms with wifi and charging ports so we can have Wi-Fi whilst we die waiting, £43.1million on a road that's never been finished and now there's no plans to ever complete it, £33million to put a 20mph speed limit throughout Wales. That's just a few things, all of the above whilst we can't get an ambulance or treatment in hospitals and A&E departments are regularly begging people to stay away unless essential. Yeah Drakeford is a right superstar, he knows he can do whatever he wants because they'll always get voted back in here.

Welsh assembly building in N Wales not used 45 million 🙈

Yeah but it's like that across the whole of the UK re: NHS, it hasn't had a chance to recover from covid cause we keep getting more waves, no government is perfect but the devolved gov's did better than UK gov during covid

The NHS in n Wales was less well equipped than England or Scotland to deal with COVID and it’s impact on the NHS as the NHS in Wales was long Before COVID performing worst than anywhere else in Britain. That’s a failure on MD’s watch.

This! His answer was a triumph of evasion and style without substance.

I’m astounded people have fallen for it!

You have 50p in your purse. Make a steak dinner.

Westminster knows that Barnett doesn’t fund Wales properly. You want more spent on health you’ll have to pay more CT for schools. You can’t have everything when it costs more to run services in Wales but get the same allowance per head. There is no PIP for public services.

Welshgal85 · 21/10/2022 18:50

So glad I live in Wales not England, especially with the current mess going on at number 10!

The First Minister and Welsh Labour actually care and put people in Wales first. Yes health is a devolved issue and the NHS is far from perfect anywhere in the UK, but people seem to forget that the nations rely on funds from Westminster. If we don’t get the necessary funds from UKgov then Welsh Gov are restricted with what they can do! And sadly that impacts the NHS, councils, education and lots of other areas of life. Also Brexit hasn’t helped, we lost loads of people who worked in health and social care due to that!

Hopefully there will be a general election soon which will get rid of the Tories and will bring more funding to Wales!

ImAvingOops · 21/10/2022 19:15

If funds are limited, thrn
its even more important not to squander them on crap that no one wants

Labour have been in power for more than 20 years in Wales and I don't believe we've had a conservative government for that long so who do you blame for the rest of the time because I can remember my brother needing cancer treatment 20 years ago and the waiting list was shocking in Wales under a labour government both in Westminster and wales.

Flowerfairy101 · 21/10/2022 20:07

I moved to Wales from SE England earlier this year, have always worked for the local authority and do so now. My new LA has..drumroll.. a council funded youth service, in a dedicated building. My old LA in England hasn't had a generic youth service for ten years. They closed almost all children and family centres, here they are investing in and purchasing more. My experience of the NHS here has also been better than in England, I've found it much easier to get a GP appointment and found HCP much more caring and proactive, possibly as the service isn't as overstretched as the densely populated SE. Also its free to park at the nearby hospitals which is really helpful when already stressed about medical appointments etc. My council tax is £200 less a year for a detached house, same band as my old small semi back in England. Obviously this is only my experience and perspective but things are far from rosy in England and I am personally very happy to be living the Welsh side of the border now.

Lesserspottedmama · 21/10/2022 20:38

Mark Drakeford the lockdown loon. He’d have us all under lock and key still if it was up to him.

KimberleyClark · 21/10/2022 23:07

@Flowerfairy101 yes Drakeford is investing in young people and it’s a courageous thing to do because it is long term.

Spudina · 21/10/2022 23:13

I agree with everything he said. However.... He has gone along with every horrible thing the Tories have done for the past 12 years and is only finding a conscience now that him and his Tory mates are about to lose their jobs. My sympathy is minimal.

I assume you are talking about Andrew RT Davies here, not Mark Drakeford? I don’t think MD has any Tory mates.

Spudina · 21/10/2022 23:26

A new dumbed down, woke curriculum and ginormous class sizes?

All I can say is that I am so relieved that my child finishes school this within the next few years.

CardiffMam · 22/10/2022 08:48

@Helpmewithteen I have three children in schools in Wales. One is in a class of 30, which isn't ideal, the other two are in classes of about 23 which is fine.

Hmm at 'woke curriculum'

Woke is such an ignorant word to use. What specifically do you oppose in the curriculum?
