The all encompassing anger he obviously feels towards the Tories and what they’ve done to our country, was something I feel so strongly too.

I found it so refreshing that someone in UK politics, who regardless of whether you agree with his politics or not is undeniably principled, has finally spoken out in this way

Ask anyone in the tourism accommodation industry in Wales at the moment what they think of Drakeford and you will get a very different response. single handedly destroying the holiday let market by insisting on 182 let or 3 times plus in council tax. many long standing business owners are distraught and have no idea how they are going to manage. and that is on him.

Brilliant man!

justasking111 · 18/10/2022 23:07

Andrew Davies stuck the knife in the back of his own MS colleagues a few years back. He's a nasty piece of work. He was pulled up on it but has clung on

Watching plaid recently on social media Adam Price has started doing this to Drakeford every time he doesn't get his own way. It's unpleasant and unnecessary.

StoneofDestiny · 18/10/2022 23:08

Andrew RT Davies said he backed Liz Truss and called on her to "map out the vision that she has... to secure her tenure".

This is one serious imbecile!

DarkForces · 18/10/2022 23:09

Health is devolved in Wales and we have 1 in 4 people waiting over a year for treatment. In England it's 1 in 20. Maybe Drakey could try shouting in a mirror.

He gets angry every time anyone tries to hold him accountable for his decisions or avoids scrutiny entirely. For instance, we're the only country refusing to have an inquiry into its covid response. How will we ever know how many lives taping off books and toys in shops had?

Mammajay · 18/10/2022 23:11

There are some good MPs in all parties. E.gs imo Jess Philips. Anna Soubris. Sarah the onetime conservative who was a gp but the Johnson fiasco meant that most of the good conservative ones left. We need a general election

Thebestwaytoscareatory · 18/10/2022 23:12

The current crop of tories are utter scum. If there was a molecule of decency in them they'd resign from there posts in shame and disgust at what their party has done go the UK.

The fact that they're not only not doing this, but also have the audacity to stand up and say THEY are the ones best placed to fix the country shows beyond any doubt that, to a person, they are self-serving, deceitful wankers.

EmmaH2022 · 18/10/2022 23:17

Sharming "The Tories are despicable terrible awful people."

agree, but Drakeford is awful too.

Well if you can't let your property more than the requisite number of days then you are hardly going great guns are you? And if you can't afford to pay the increased council tax then your business doesn't sound that profitable anyway. Better to try something else.

As the less profitable lets fold there will be more housing available to buy, or landlords will consider going back into the domestic rental market. I'm not a huge Drakeford fan but this was one of his better policies.

Devolved parliments are treated like any other government department and set a budget. They have no ability to increase said budget should they need to.

Trying to maintain a certain level of service, let alone improve it, while having your budget reduced (in real terms) year upon year upon year is a virtually impossible job.

What makes it all the more galling for us who lived in the devolved nations is the fact that the UK government can, and does, increase borrowing to fund English only services (which we then get to contribute to by servicing the increase national debt).

CardiffMam · 18/10/2022 23:28

If you can't rent an airbnb enough nights un a year, then it's time to look for long term tenants or sell. Rental accommodation is so rare in many areas of Wales, there will be plenty of people eager to rent.

LizzieSiddal · 18/10/2022 23:33

He spoke for the vast majority of people in this country.

And I wish someone from Labour had spoken to Penny Mordant like that yesterday in Parliament.

Please don't speak to all Welsh people. Theres a good few on this thread, me included who feel he's a very good leader

Agreed. I’m Welsh.

The rental market is collapsing, a rush to get out now. With mortgages at 6% most can't afford to buy or move. The small landlords are selling to the big boys in London and abroad who have deep pockets. renting won't get better when your slum landlords beyond the reach of the Welsh courts.

As anyone in the tourism accommodation industry in Wales... and the majority will tell you they vote Tory. I have zero sympathy.

The council tax hike is to stop those who have profiteered from gutting our villages and destroying our culture. I'm starting to see AirBnB's in our area being rented out as long term lets to tenants with families. That is exactly what the policy is intended to do.

Those who are crying about not making as much profit from their holiday lets... sorry. Dont care.

The man, who made Welsh people's lives, during covid, a misery? The amount of admiration for this man is laughable. Not unexpected, on MN though.

Scurryfunge12 · 19/10/2022 00:56

Everybody’s lives were a misery during covid, not just in Wales. Yes, there were some stupid rules, but I do see where they came from at least.

As far as I can remember Welsh rules weren’t that different from England, so I’m unsure why Drakeford is being painted as the devil.

Westminster controls the budget in Wales and as far as I’m aware, demographics mean that Wales needs more funds per head than is provided.

No politician is perfect by any means, but I honestly don’t think he makes decisions in malice. I could say the complete opposite about the Tories. Pure evil, they know exactly what they’re doing!

VerinMathwin · 19/10/2022 01:04

Useless twat. After the last senedd election he published his five year plan. 58 pages of giving free money to every woke cause you can think of and two pages tacked on the end about the economy. How the fuck does he think things get paid for? After 23 years of one party labour rule in Wales, the country is worse on just about every measure compared to England that you can think of, health education and economy. I can't.express just how much contempt I have for the man.

StoneofDestiny · 19/10/2022 07:40

For those on here saying the Welsh NHS is bad - here is todays headline in The Daily Mirror...............(England). As I said upthread, the NHS is on its knees everywhere...

World War Two veteran, 95, left waiting for 26 hours on trolley in A&E
Stanley Solomons, 95, was admitted to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham on Sunday, however he was forced to endure a 26-hour wait before finally being given a bed on a ward on Monday afternoon

Depressing I’d feel the same

sst1234 · 19/10/2022 07:43

People are so easily fooled and so shortsighted. Forgotten how he enjoyed locking Wales down and his general record.

Alexandra2001 · 19/10/2022 07:45

I won't vote for labour I don't care what you say I'm from a certain town which labour let paedophiles run wild

Unbelievable that you think its a Councils job to catch and prosecute criminals and not the Police.

I listened to the story (on R4) of a young woman trafficked all around the UK, has been raped 1000 times, yet this isn't historical but is happening now and Police are doing nothing about it.. so perhaps direct your anger at the Home Secretary and the Government of the day.

This x 1000. A Corbynista who'd bring the country to its knees. The Tories are no better but two wrongs don't make a right.

Similar to the UK's or other European countries BUT one can make errors with LD's and still be impressed at his passion in that speech.
