Grazing tables...

Seen them gaining popularity on Instagram and TikTok over the last year and came across my first as the evening food at a wedding recently. No one there serving it, no gloves provided, just a grubby fingered free for all. Also flies were very attracted to it Envy

AIBU or are they a bit yuck?! They look great, but I was really put off especially after kids went up first Grin

I don't like the idea that meat products are just left out of the fridge for ages uncovered.

As a veggie, the meat literally touching everything means I would give it a massive swerve. 🤮

GlasgowGal82 · 18/10/2022 09:42

To share with a couple of close friends or family… fine. At a wedding with 100 odd people picking at it… 🤢 Did we learn nothing from covid?!!

Revolting. Everything mixed up, with wet foods making dry things soggy, flavours running between items. Your photos alone make me want to heave.

This.
I hate everything about them. I don’t like food touching.

Thank you all, now I know what a butter board is😱I don't know what's more off-putting, the grazing table or the butter board. Dear me. Can listeria be far away?

Completely agree.
humans are utterly intent on their own extinction aren’t they?!

😳So Gross!

Butter boards? Thankfully they've escaped my notice until now. Anyone want to tell me what they are? I'm wary, sounds a bit horrible.

Butter mushed up on a board in a pattern with random shite sprinkled on it. Genuinely ridiculous and a waste of butter!

The piece on This Morning left me open mouthed (saw it on Gogglebox-I don’t watch TM!)

IHateWasps · 18/10/2022 09:50

Considering the price of butter it'd probably be cheaper to have a full buffet than a butter board.

theproudgeek · 18/10/2022 09:50

My first attempt at a link, so hoping this works.

Katy123g · 18/10/2022 09:51

Awful.

They make me think of the film The Platform and how once all the upper floors have had their fill, the lower onces are left with absolute slop. 🤢

IHateWasps · 18/10/2022 09:51

There's a local company who do these where I live and they're constantly posting photos in all the community Facebook groups/buy and sell groups. Someone asked them "isn't there just absolutely loads of waste?" and they got a bit defensive and basically said that yes, there's always loads of food leftover and it goes in the bin but who cares because it's all been paid fo

That's just grotesque.

AriettyHomily · 18/10/2022 09:51

Gross gross gross but the phase is over - now it's butter boards 🤮

User1275936 · 18/10/2022 09:52

Literally just messy buffets.

cushioncovers · 18/10/2022 09:54

Sharing a food platter with family is bad enough but having to share it with vast amounts of people makes me want to heave.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 18/10/2022 09:55

Grazing Trough might be a more apt name.

I suppose it makes clearing up at the end easy - you just sweep it all off into a dustbin at the end of the table. Something that I think would better to do right at the start actually!

Absolutely this!

Brideandpredjudice · 18/10/2022 10:04

Imagine going up about halfway down the line when it's literally a space pile of food that's been fingered, scattered over a table. I wouldn't even attempt it, it'd be like eating from the rubbish pile.

Ivyonafence · 18/10/2022 10:06

I HATE them.

Thank you for your post.

Disgusting. How they are popular off the back of a pandemic blows my mind.

Food thrown in a pile, sitting out all day while people pick over and breathe on it.

And a lot of food waste as no one wants the dregs at the end.

Hideous trend.

Hugsgalore · 18/10/2022 10:12

Me too. I think they look amazing! Too much effort though

Snoken · 18/10/2022 10:12

It reminds me of that show You are what you eat, where they just piled all the junk food up to show the person just how much they ate. There is nothing nice looking about it.

MossGrowsFat · 18/10/2022 10:15

I don't understand how they are legal due to cross contamination.

TenoringBehind · 18/10/2022 10:15

Awful awful awful

so unhygienic and such a waste of food

Planesmistakenforstars · 18/10/2022 10:15

I am the least fussy eater I can think of, but this is disgusting.
And why are the olives on their lonesome is a bowl?

JudyBlumesBlubber · 18/10/2022 10:36

I've never come across one in real life and eat like an ox, but this turns my stomach.

ferneytorro · 18/10/2022 10:41

What’s in the jars? Whatever it is will just get slopped all over the rest of the food. Why not just get rid of plates and forks and just get guests to use it like a trough and eat off the table. It’s the thin end of the wedge - literally.
