The law, science and medical guidelines don’t apply to her apparently.

I've been both a giver and receiver of antibiotics for UTIs. And bloody grateful I've been.

twelly · 16/10/2022 22:56

Many things done by Boris Johnson during the pandemic were against the law, similarly drug taking admitted by many minsters is against the law. Yes I agree this sharing of prescription drugs is not good but it is not more bad than the other points. I am not a fan of TC at all but I do feel that a lot of the negative opinions seem to be based upon her image which I think is wrong. She is not media savvy not does she try and court the media.

YANBU OP. Someone who thinks there's such a thing as 'leftover antibiotics' should not be in charge of the health brief. I thought everyone knew the importance of always, always finishing the full course of antibiotics. As for passing on any medication prescribed to you to your friends - I truly despair.

This is absolutely right! So two people on an incomplete course of antibiotics could be contributing to antibiotic resistance, never mind the other person could have allergies. How would she know that the drug is the appropriate treatment? Sack her anyway, she’s worse than useless.

TooBigForMyBoots · 16/10/2022 23:02

She's also displayed monumental stupidity in telling our nurses they can fuck off when the NHS has a shortage of nurses.🤯

Itsnotalternateuniverses · 16/10/2022 23:04

You think that's bad? I'm still waiting for the crap to hit the fan when people realise she spent £6 million on getting an office balcony built so she didn't have to go too far to smoke.

Changechangychange · 16/10/2022 23:08

Anyway I’m sure once Liz goes tomorrow morning, Therese won’t be long in post. I doubt Penny, Rishi! or whoever else replaces Liz will want to keep Truss appointees around.

Health Secretary commits illegal act with prescription medicines. What do you think would be a sacking matter?

Quite. I seem to remember a health secretary being forced to resign for fucking his aide. I know which I think is worse.

Quinque · 16/10/2022 23:19

The reason Coffey mentioned doing this was because she was suggesting that antibiotics should be prescribed by pharmacists and available over the counter.
I think that is a ridiculous and alarming suggestion for a health secretary to make and demonstrates woeful ignorance of the risks of inappropriate prescribing of antibiotics

She's not media savvy? 😂 She's

the deputy PM, it's literally her job to be able to speak to the country including the media. She's also broken the law which on its own should result in her going.

miceonabranch · 16/10/2022 23:27

She's an idiot. She obviously fails to grasp the concept of antibiotic resistance and she was disgusting saying that nurses should just leave if they're not happy. What an awful woman.

In less than 6 weeks? What are the names of her builders? Do you have their phone number?

Blondbombsite · 16/10/2022 19:46

I think it’s absolutely stupid and she should be condemned, but it’s not a sacking matter imo.

It's illegal. Of course it's a sacking offence!

Itsnotalternateuniverses · 17/10/2022 02:17

@MarshaMelrose this was in her previous role not the current one. She was happy to spend this money whilst cutting the benefits of the poorest and hiding just how many people on benefits had died.

I thought the whole ‘finishing a course of antibiotics’ had been debunked?

but, yes, Coffee beyond awful

Jewel1968 · 17/10/2022 03:36

I can kinda understand the sharing of some medicine in extreme situations e.g.painkiller for toothache. Risky but I can understand it if someone you love is in lots of pain and you have what you think might help.

But antibiotics makes no sense - you need a full course so you should not have any leftover and if you did the person you are sharing with should be getting a full course so leftovers are not appropriate.

Christmascaroll · 17/10/2022 03:58

Having a PhD in Chemistry does that mean that she's also qualified to practice as a pharmacist?
Because it also needs reporting to the British Medical Association and the Pharmaceutical Council

urbanbuddha · 17/10/2022 04:10

"Raging alcoholic" was the description I heard. She certainly seems neither sensible or clever.

PalatineHill · 17/10/2022 07:02

Well even though Boris famously watered down the Ministerial Code to serve his own apalling lack of standards… As the Secretary of State for Health, Therese Coffey’s broken what’s left of the Ministerial Code, surely?:

Ministers must ensure no conflict arises, or appears to arise, between their public duties and their private interests

Endlesssummer2022 · 17/10/2022 07:04

She’s anti abortion but thinks it’s fine for parents to smoke with their kids in the car so is clearly not bothered what happens to babies once they’re born.

Lapland123 · 17/10/2022 07:13

Absolutely resign or be sacked

iloveeverykindofcat · 17/10/2022 07:18

LizzieSiddal · 16/10/2022 20:19

She a has a chemistry PhD from one of the world's top universities. I always find it amusing when posters go around calling people like that thick as shit. Take a look in the mirror.

You can still be thick and have a PHD. I know quite a few.

I've got a PhD. Realistically you can't be "thick" and a have a PhD but you don't need to be particularly intelligent either, if you're persistent. She doesn't strike me as particularly sharp though.

CockingASnook · 17/10/2022 07:34

I think breaking the law should be a sackable offence. But I’m more concerned about whether she is corrupt. She is on record as having accepted gifts and hospitality from the tobacco industry and is also strangely unable to say whether smoking in cars with children is harmful to the children (hint: it is). I wonder if the two are connected.
She appears to be a thoroughly nasty piece of work (trapped in the body of a 70-year-old alcoholic).

ChampagneCamping · 17/10/2022 07:36

What did she say about nurses?

there are different types of intelligence. Academic intelligence is just one type of intelligence. Regardless it feels wrong to call someone thick, it’s feels a slur on people who aren’t naturally able

RudsyFarmer · 17/10/2022 07:50

Another person to put in the stocks and throw rocks at. Progression looks an awful lot like regression to me.

MarshaMelrose · 17/10/2022 08:06

I think breaking the law should be a sackable offence.

You'd be happy to be sacked if you got a speeding fine?

Realistically you can't be "thick" and a have a PhD but you don't need to be particularly intelligent either,

What is the point of our higher education system if you can get qualifications without being intelligent?
