Won’t let DH keep shoes on entry shoe rack

Sundaya · 14/10/2022 19:18

Yes, there is a shoe rack in my house’s entryway, but I would prefer to only keep one pair of shoes per person there. I begrudgingly let DH keep two of his pairs there. He says it’s inefficient to not fill the rack completely and wants to keep more there. But the entryway is not a closet! AIBU?

Batshit. This thread is batshit.

abblie · 14/10/2022 21:36

I'm actually getting flashbacks to when I was a child and my mother bought biscuits but you weren't allowed to eat them cos they where in a glass container 🤣🤣🤣🤣

saraclara · 14/10/2022 21:38

I just went into the porch to take a photo of my three tier shoe rack, to link here. But I chickened out. The OP would have the vapours.

BTW, I live alone. And if I have a guest and they want to take their shoes off, I have a problem

topcat2014 · 14/10/2022 21:38

I'd keep the spares on the dining table :)

AhNowTed · 14/10/2022 21:38

Rock and roll!

Lol. This is one I need to show my kids for a good giggle over. The funniest one before this was about neighbours buying a trampoline to snoop at them.

Oh my I laughed sooo much at this comment that I feel I need to thank you for wirting it 😂

FunnysInLaJardin · 14/10/2022 21:39

really odd and really hilarious OP

Canthave2manycats · 14/10/2022 21:41

I hate shoe racks, so messy and untidy! Everyone in our house gets changed when they come in so the shoes live in bedrooms, out of sight.

Personally I have upwards of 200 pairs of sandals, trainers, shoes and boots...

Purplecatshopaholic · 14/10/2022 21:43

Err, you ‘let’ him? And he goes along with it? Are you married to a grown adult? Jeezo

RosesAndHellebores · 14/10/2022 21:43

It is easily resolved. You need a house with a boot room.

We have a worse quirk but at least we are on the same page. We have downstairs and upstairs slippers. We keep them on the little half landing at the bottom of the stairs and next to the drawing room which is carpeted.

We change from our downstairs slippers into our outdoor shoes in the boot room. We put our downstairs slippers on when we get home. If we go upstairs or use the drawing room we change into our soft soled slippers and leave our downstairs slipper on the half landing.

Mariposista · 14/10/2022 21:46

I personally hate shoe racks. Yes, they are practical but seeing loads of pairs of shoes just kales the entrance to a house look messy. And don't get me started on the crap people leave in porches. I leave my shoes and coat in the wardrobe - it takes 40 extra seconds to do. But I get not everyone would be prepared to do this.

Bottomofthepileasusual · 14/10/2022 21:48

This thread has proper shaken me out of my bad mood. Bloody hilarious

whatsup00 · 14/10/2022 21:55

I store shoes on mine.

Hbh17 · 14/10/2022 21:56

Dear God, who really cares this much about a few pair of shoes?People can put - or wear - their shoes wherever they like - especially in THEIR OWN HOUSE! I feel so sorry for your partner.

LimpBiskit · 14/10/2022 21:58

What a bizarre thread🤣

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 14/10/2022 22:00

I believe the best thing is not enabling such control so the best thing he could do for you is to putall his shows there!

Don't give into these feelings op..
If you genuinely don't like the look of the shoes get a different rack.

I still have nightmares about mils shoe rack.

Wow, I was not expecting this response! Maybe IABU. But let me clarify: I’m fine with extra shoes being on the rack that are in use for that day. For example, you’ve just got home from work and temporarily leave your office shoes at the door. But I think shoes should not be STORED on the entryway rack. Only one utilitarian pair per person should be stored there for taking the bins out, etc. Otherwise it completely fills up and there’s not room for the unexpected extra pair of shoes or shoes from guests.

This has just made me laugh out loud !

Oh OP just "let" him put his shoes on the rack, your rules are far too complicated for shoes, just use the rack 😂

Hotandbothereds · 14/10/2022 22:13

I really want to sneak round to the OPs house and leave piles of shoes on the…. Shock horror… SHOE rack

StarfishBrain · 14/10/2022 22:18

You have too much time on your hands.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 14/10/2022 22:20

Or just wear the shoes on the feet like they and floors were intended for..

After a year and you are all still alive, and your floors have survived you can completely forget shoe rack

saraclara · 14/10/2022 22:32

This thread reminds me of Ruby Wax mentioning that her mother never removed the plastic from their sofa and chairs because she was so obsessed with keeping them clean.

LadyLothbrook · 14/10/2022 22:36

I don't even notice my husband wears shoes. Shoe rack is filled with shoes that kids grew out of 75 terms ago and a stack of our village newsletters. Different horses...Grin

Yanbu. I actually think everybody has little querks and ways that they like things done. If it is not a big deal for me but is a big deal for my partner, then why would I continue to do something they didnt like? It's a tiny compromise. They arent asking the world. They want the hallway tidy when they walk in the door. It doesn't mean you're being controlled for christ sakes, a little give and bloody take.

This. The people saying I’m “controlling” DH are hyperbolic! It’s about give and take. We have a conversation and agree upon rules of how we do things in our house. To be honest, my purpose of posting this thread was that I thought most would agree with me and I could take it to DH and say “see??” This did not go as planned 😅

You actually sit down and agree upon "rules" such as how to best utilise the shoe rack? No wonder the poor bugger rebels where he can 🙄

Sundaya · 14/10/2022 23:06

Toomanyshoesontherack · 14/10/2022 20:33

This thread has actually opened my eyes, because you know what @Sundaya we have the EXACT SAME problem in our house. Except ours is a basket that I specifically bought for my husband to put his shoes in to stop them being left all over the hall. There is a massive shoe closet less than 10ft from the front door, but he insists on cramming 5+ pairs of shoes on this tiny basket because he needs so many to hand apparently. Drives me crazy. It just looks so incredibly untidy.

So I am going to go against the majority (unreasonably apparently) and say that you are my kind of person. Just wanted to lend some moral support!

Five pairs of shoes in the basket is unreasonable!
