RIP, Fitz.

You were a real Cracker.

Really sad to hear this, Cracker remains one of the best programmes I’ve ever seen. I also loved him as Hagrid but as He was sublime as Fitz. I’m def going to rewatch cracker

MrsTerryPratchett · 14/10/2022 20:41

I have to break it to DD.

Bugger. She's loves misunderstood animals and HP so Hagrid is a favourite.

Sad
BusySittingDown · 14/10/2022 20:41

So sad. I told my kids and they both said "nooo, not Hagrid!" Sad

AutumnalLeaves38 · 14/10/2022 20:41

BTW, All 3 series of Cracker are still available on ITV Hub.

They really stand up to a re-watch.

Kanaloa · 14/10/2022 20:42

So sad. He wasn’t even really old either. Did anyone watch the reunion? I didn’t but remember seeing the clip where he said something like ‘when kids are watching it in x years… well I won’t be here, but Hagrid will.’

Lovely interview with Parkinson here.
1987, I think.

Very sad news, I need to re-watch Cracker in tribute. Great actor.

Kimya · 14/10/2022 21:04

He'll always be Cracker to me.

Popvan · 14/10/2022 21:10

Oh no, just watched him in Black Adder last night. Fab in Cracker and National Treasure. RIP.

Abraxan · 14/10/2022 21:32

Have to disagree! Whilst it's sad he has gone, 72 is hardly 'no age at all.'

It's almost ten years below the current average lifespan in the U.K.,

Whilst 72y isn't young overall, it is definitely is too young to die. You'd easily expect quite a few more years ahead of someone that age these days.

He was fabulous as Hagrid, he just WAS Hagrid in every way.

Jijithecat · 14/10/2022 22:09

He was brilliant as the prisoner Donald in Lead Balloon. His character held Jack Dee hostage. It was darkly hilarious.

DamnUserName21 · 14/10/2022 22:27

I bloody loved Nuns of the Run!

TheFormidableMrsC · 14/10/2022 22:33

I had a bit of a crush on him. He had a sparkly something about him. Very sad to hear of his passing.

UthredofBattenberg · 14/10/2022 22:35

Loved him in Cracker, def need to give that a rematch. Would be nice if ITV would do a rerun give circumstances.

Obviously Hagrid!

But Dr Johnson in Blackadder 😆

"Once upon a time there was a lovely little Sausage called B....Sausage?! SAUSAGE??!!!"

happyfeet5 · 14/10/2022 22:46

Anyone else think he was incredibly young?!!
OH says 72 is a normal age because it’s still ‘old’, without underlying conditions it’s still fairly normal to him.
I couldn’t disagree more. I think it is so young, and so sad.

MrsBungle · 14/10/2022 22:48

I was really sad to hear this. I’ve really enjoyed his acting over many years.

TrashyPanda · 14/10/2022 23:01

Such sad news.
i knew him, back in the 80s.
he had incredible presence and charisma

mauveskies · 14/10/2022 23:22

I had the maddest crush on him as Fitz in Cracker. RIP, big fella. I find this very sad.

Statistically it's far from a good innings and as I found when being assessed for HRT, my DF's death at 71 was counted as premature.

Usually people who think 72 is old are nowhere near it and change their mind accordingly as they approach that age. A valuable corrective is to consider that the state pension is at 67 and would they really like to pop off five years later? I'm 68 and 72 does not look old to me.

Back to the big fella. What a chap. I remember him in Tutti Frutti, Cracker and of course the HP films. I'll re-watch Cracker tonight.

AcrossthePond55 · 15/10/2022 01:54

So sad, but what a legacy of work he leaves behind.

I told my 33 year old son and he teared up (as did I). He read the books as they came out and was 12 when the first movie was released. Hagrid was his favorite character, full of unconditional love and wisdom.

RIP Robbie. And as you said in the reunion special about future generations seeing the movies: "I'll not be here, sadly," he added. "But Hagrid will."

Clevererthanyou · 15/10/2022 02:04

He was also brilliant in the Dial a Bus episode of Still Game, he played the unwell and unhinged bus driver who was triggered by (I think) doughnuts. I will never forget him responding to Isa's seduction attempt with a deadpan face and "Sexy"

BooseysMom · 15/10/2022 02:27

I'd forgotten he was Daphne's brother in Frazier

No way! The one from England who had an annoying posh voice?! I had no idea it was Robbie who played him.

I had no idea he had died yesterday either. So sad. I used to love watching Cracker with DM back in the day. RIP Robbie.
