Not sure this is the best way to boost the TK Group’s huge profits. AIBU?

They've sold these for years at Halloween. Get a grip.

BitOutOfPractice · 14/10/2022 07:58

How long are these “disrespectful” and “inappropriate” censures going to go on for? I’m fed up of being told how to feel now!

KitchenSupper · 14/10/2022 07:58

They’re presumably in TK Maxx because they have been taken off someone else’s shelves.
It’s nothing to do with the Queen. It probably isn’t a female skull — is it disrespectful to Charles?

B1pbop · 14/10/2022 08:01

What even is it? The skull looks odd.

I haven’t seen the print and don’t know the artist, but surely it’s likely to be a comment along the lines of the monarchy being an archaic and outdated institution?

JRHartly · 14/10/2022 08:04

The plates must pre-date the Queen’s death, as no way could they have been manufactured and end up as last season’s plates at TKMax in just one month.

Vulpine · 14/10/2022 08:05

Other monarchs have died

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 14/10/2022 08:06

They’d be great with this respectful t-shirt

Why does the skull look weird though?

TK Maxx don’t make stuff - they buy up brands and other retailers aged stock

Au contraire...

knittingaddict · 14/10/2022 08:31

FlowerArranger · 14/10/2022 01:22

Appalling and disrespectful.
Can't believe 80% consider this acceptable...

It's not a comment about the Royal family. Have you never seen this sort of graphic around before? Not sure what it's called? A bit steampunk maybe?

Grimed · 14/10/2022 08:32

It's Halloween stock, they have similar every year. I own loads and use them all year round.

It's not. It doesn't have a meaning. If you Google it skull and crown images are in their hundreds or thousands. Someone decided it looked cool. It's not a social commentary.

knittingaddict · 14/10/2022 08:40

Having done a further internet search it can have a meaning, although meanings seem to vary, but none of them mention the Royal family. So might have a symbolism for some if it's a tattoo, but no one is wishing death on King Charles.

This is just a ghoulish plate.

jays · 14/10/2022 08:42

They’re for Halloween, they’ve been in there since the start of august, I think they’re fabulous! Funny post though op, made me laugh and cheered me up!

Loics · 14/10/2022 08:48

Ooh I might have to go to TK Maxx for Halloween things, this is lovely. Much better than the plastic tat that likely won't last long or end up in landfill straight after Halloween.

Absolutely disgraceful. Send to the media and let’s get a boycott going!

I dont think so she needs to send it to media. Three quarters of journalists feeds on mumsnet posts Hmm

OneFrenchEgg · 14/10/2022 08:52

The range is Wicked by Ciroa - you can see top right. Maybe bumped to TK Maxx because of this design and the Queens death coinciding but Google shows it's just a theme for them

"Alexa, what should I be offended by today?"

MarshaMelrose · 14/10/2022 08:53

I don't think it's offensive to the Queen or King. It's just ugly and vastly over priced at 3.99. Which is why it's still sat on the shelf.

Handsoffmyrights · 14/10/2022 08:55

Unlike the skeleton, you can grow a thicker skin.

Of course all art has meaning - even cheap tat! It’s been deemed cool by the collective and mass printed and copied for a reason, because it speaks to something people feel. Whether people (artist or viewers) are conscious of that or not is another question.

I've actually just asked Alexa that, she didn't know, so I've given her some pointers GrinGrinGrin

Human remains shouldn't be used for cheap profiteering.
