Go back? bbc article

such a sad situation but we barely have enough housing or school places as it is. Unless the hosts can act as guarantors? That’s a possibility ?

the government really hasn’t thought through the aftermath of the hosting scheme.

We are hosting a young couple with a baby. The father got through the checkpoint into Poland as he had a medical certificate that exempted him from military service. He seems healthy to me - runs, cycles, plays football. I suspect that he paid a doctor for the certificate. Ukraine, like Russia has a lot of corruption.

Perhaps he had bone spurs on his feet. It worked for Trump.

My brother and his wife is hosting a Ukrainian young woman. Early 20’s who was studying when the war broke out. She now cannot continue her studies in the Ukraine even though she lives in a relatively safe area. Her mother and father are still in the Ukraine and so is a younger sibling. Her dad is too old to fight and her brother too young. Within 2 weeks of arriving she was offered a job and started work plus sorted out and started to continue her studies .My brother won’t ask her for any keep money as she is sending money home to help her family. She has no plans to settle here and isn’t claiming any benefits. So like in all things some exploit the system whilst others are grateful and just want temporary help so that they can help those left behind.

@oakleaffy Perhaps you don’t follow the news coming out of Ukraine much so you haven’t realised that the “safe” parts of Ukraine are being bombed.

Lviv and Ternopil for eg are very much in the west, but have been bombed in the last two weeks. The Russians are also bombing energy and water supply infrastructure so even safe parts will have power outages, no water, no sewage system.

@oakleaffy This was the extent of the air raid alerts over Ukraine this morning. To be clear, that’s all of Ukraine (except Crimea). Over 30 missiles were fired towards Kyiv and areas to the north and west of Kyiv, half were taken down and half hit their target, including one in a town close to the border with Poland.

So given the extent of the fighting in the east and south, and the fact that Kyiv and surrounding areas, and areas in the west of Ukraine are being bombed, I’m struggling to work out where the “peaceful” areas are. I don’t know how widely this is being reported though, so I don’t know if people are aware. Perhaps something to check before commenting though.
