To not change the bed sheets immediately…

DoreensEatingHerSoreen · 13/10/2022 21:13

... because they have a small amount of dried blood on them as my dog is in season.

My partner was furious when he realised that my Shih Tzu had left a small amount of period blood on our bedsheets. (Two dried spots, one the size of a 50p, one the size of a 20p). I was already in bed, tired having retuned from a week working away, and in the first few weeks of pregnancy.

Parter demanded that the sheets should be changed immediately, I said it would be fine til the morning, but if he wanted them changing that badly he should do it himself.

For context the dog is mine, I've had her since before we met and moved in together.

Not sure if I've set up voting or not but ...

YANBU - it's a small amount of dried blood, the sheets can be changed later or he can do it himself

YABU - that's gross, it's your dog, you should change the sheets immediately

Why is it grim? It's a perfectly normal bodily occurrence and they are small spots of blood. I think people on Mumsnet are obsessed with overly cleaning things/ cleanliness over common sense...
i think you are def not being unreasonable. Just wait till you have babies and kids... you can't be anal about cleanliness then.. it's just family life with a dog... no biggie

I wouldn’t have a dog on the bed in the first place
My dog gets under the duvet with me and licks my face.

🤮

Billyhargrovesmullet · 13/10/2022 22:47

Gross having dogs on bed full stop

oakleaffy · 13/10/2022 22:47

@DoreensEatingHerSoreen
I have a (Now spayed) small dog who was advised to have one season before being spayed.
I was really surprised at the amount of blood produced by even a first season.
A friend gave me some puppy pads which really helped,( like absorbent mats ) but it was much worse when she was asleep.
I would cover your bed if she goes on it with a thick cotton sheet that can be washed .

Dogs in season just are messy - at night especially when they can’t clean themselves when asleep.

Disgusting tbh, and get your dog spayed!

Yep

LuckySantangelo35 · 13/10/2022 22:48

yup

they have their own beds to sleep on

Brigante9 · 13/10/2022 22:48

BadNomad · 13/10/2022 22:43

No, they don't. Dogs don't menstruate. Dogs have an estrus cycle, i.e. a heat cycle. No periods.

Every day’s a school day! Presumably they discard eggs, same as humans, tho? So why is it an estrus cycle as opposed to menstruation?

gogohmm · 13/10/2022 22:50

I'm not house proud but I find it l, no change them. I wouldn't let a dog out of the tiled kitchen if in season (not that I would have a dog in season because I was have her spayed)

JessesMum777888 · 13/10/2022 22:50

This is absolutely grim.
whoever saw it should of took them off and straight in the wash.

Brigante9 · 13/10/2022 22:52

LuckySantangelo35 · 13/10/2022 22:44

@Brigante9

if there was lots of your dogs period blood on your bedsheets youd probably change them

why only probably?!

Because I figure I live surrounded by 3 dogs and their associated filth. My mum was horrified when I took eye boogers off one dog and didn’t rush to wash my hands. They want to be on my knee constantly, even if they’ve just been in the wet garden. I tend to change right before I go to work because they’ve probably smooged me with filthy paws/drool/god knows.

rainbowandglitter · 13/10/2022 22:53

I can't even believe this is real it's so disgusting. My dogs aren't even allowed in a bedroom let alone a dog in season on the bed which you then sleep in. Do you not feel dirty?

Blackbutler86 · 13/10/2022 22:54

About a week ago I’d have said you should definitely immediately change them but recently one of my cats threw up a hair ball at the very end of the bed around 1am and I was too tired to change the bottom sheet so I just cleared it away and ran a few antibacterial wipes over where it was and changed the sheets next day. If it had been anywhere near where I lay or further up the bed I would have got myself up. So I guess what I’m saying is if it’s not near your face and tiny then it won’t hurt to wait until tomorrow.

oakleaffy · 13/10/2022 22:55

Isabelle70 · 13/10/2022 22:28

If you don't change the sheets the blood/discharge is going to stain them? I would have got them soaking in cold water.

Hydrogen peroxide 30 vols gets rid of dog season staining that’s dried in. ( Only use on white cotton though)

A biological soaker works too, but agreed that fresh blood is much easier to wash out than some that’s dried in.

Readaboutyourself · 13/10/2022 22:56

I think it’s gross too but if OH was ok with it then it’s on me to change them.

Blossomtoes · 13/10/2022 22:57

I’m a slattern, the sheets can wait until the morning. I’d get the dog spayed though.

EilonwyWithRedGoldHair · 13/10/2022 22:59

It is a bit gross, but understandable with the pregnancy tiredness.

Your husband should have just made the bed himself if it bothered him so much.

RelativePitch · 13/10/2022 22:59

I think it's fine. I can't imagine what people think will happen to OP having a tiny bit of dried bloody discharge on the bed. Dog AIDS? Can be sorted tomorrow. No worries.

1984Winston · 13/10/2022 23:00

I would have got the dog spayed ASAP because of the risk of cancer and pyometra but I would also have changed the sheets sorry

You could argue that dogs are disgusting in general and so is having them in your house, even if they aren't in the bedrooms.

Starcatty · 13/10/2022 23:02

Dried blood on a sheet I would ignore until the morning so I voted YANBU. Fresh blood or near the pillow I would have to change.

oakleaffy · 13/10/2022 23:02

Mum2jenny · 13/10/2022 21:26

IMO there’s much worse stuff to have on bedding than a few drops of blood, even if it’s from a dog.
Let him change the bedding if it’s such an issue. What happens if he drops some tea or coffee on the bedding - does that warrant an immediate change?

Coffee or tea aren’t “Gross” in the same way mammalian discharge is.
I have spilled a half cup of coffee on the bed and it went everywhere- I did change that, but agree that a tiny spill I’d wait til bedding change day to change bedding.

I can’t even believe this post is real! Do you feel dirty? Because of a couple of dried spots of blood near me?!

Dipsydoodlenoodle · 13/10/2022 23:11

In my opinion it entirely depends where the blood is...

If you are lying in it, near a face etc yes, if its on the duvet near feet I'd wait.

StoneofDestiny · 13/10/2022 23:15

Gross - can't imagine letting a dog on my bed, never mind sleeping in it's dried blood 🤮🤮. Vomit inducing standards.

BadNomad · 13/10/2022 23:18

Every day’s a school day! Presumably they discard eggs, same as humans, tho? So why is it an estrus cycle as opposed to menstruation?

They ovulate, yes, but they don't shed their uterine lining after (menstruate/have a period). They go through a whole different cycle of stages. After this bloody discharge stage, they go through the horny stage. OP's dog is going to be frustratedly humping everything, and every male dog in the area is going to be trying to knock down the door to get at her.
