To have been using the same mascara since May?

Just bought some new mascara after my one started drying out. And it actually occurred to me that I have been using it since May…

Im quite surprised at myself, I just hadn’t realised how long I had had it…

I just keep thinking of the bacteria that must have been on it😱

Tell me I’m not alone here, what’s the longest you have kept mascara or any makeup for?

Years, no conjunctivitis yet :)

BattenburgDonkey · 13/10/2022 20:32

That’s really not that long!

kitcat15 · 13/10/2022 20:32

Sounds fine to me OP

PoundOfNesh · 13/10/2022 20:33

I’ve had mine since may….of 2018 Blush (part of my birthday stocking)

I don’t it much and am too lazy to replace

gaggiagirl · 13/10/2022 20:33

Until it dries out. Many months probably. I'm off to check when I purchased my current one now!

Scuttlingherbert · 13/10/2022 20:34

I would still be thinking of mascara from May as new.
Not sure my oldest item but I've got lipstick from 2012

Thatiswild · 13/10/2022 20:34

I’ve got some that are years old! I don’t really ever go out though. They even say 6 months on them anyway, the little sign with the open pot shows how long you should use stuff for once open if you want to be super good, don’t worry!

Bywayofanupdate · 13/10/2022 20:34

I have had my foundation since 2016 😬

CuriousCatfish · 13/10/2022 20:34

I just use mine until it dries out.

deathofthesnark · 13/10/2022 20:35

I've got mascaras that would be starting school... senior school!

They may have bacteria, but it's my bacteria

Buckland123 · 13/10/2022 20:35

What’s wrong with that?! I use mine daily and it still lasts longer than a few months - maybe 8/9 months? So don’t change it til it’s run out. Never had any eye issues!

A580Hojas · 13/10/2022 20:35

Lol at this op. What do you think those of us who only wear make up for nights out do? I have mascaras that are 2+ years old or older. My eyes are fine.

Era · 13/10/2022 20:36

Blimey. I literally still have the eyeshadow set I got for my 13th birthday. I’m 48!

Thatiswild · 13/10/2022 20:36

I’ve got makeup from my teens, I’m mid 40s. Any powdered item is fine forever if stored correctly but creams and liquids will go dry or could breed bacteria basically, this is what I learned on a makeup course but I ignore it most of the time!

TowerRaven7 · 13/10/2022 20:37

Another one for years here. I have a hierarchy, the first one (full) I use every day. When I can tell it’s getting down I switch it to my work bag. When it’s almost gone I throw it in my travel kit, and depending on when I travel - hasn’t been much since Covid - it’s usually pretty much dry; I’ll use it for the trip then toss it before I leave.

Smidge001 · 13/10/2022 20:44

I honestly don't think any of my make up is less than 12 years old.

MinglingFlamingo · 13/10/2022 20:45

95% of my makeup was purchased before 2020. Including eye makeup. I brought some mascaras in May June time and have barely used it.

WGACA · 13/10/2022 20:46

I’ve been using mine for way longer! It’s almost fried up now.

OhAmBackAgain · 13/10/2022 20:47

probably about 10 years old, I don't wear it often but it hasn't dried up yet, and never any eye problems.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 13/10/2022 20:49

Phaha. May is practically brand new! Some of miine are older than my DC! They'll soon be 9 and 11

CurlyhairedAssassin · 13/10/2022 20:53

i suggest you stop reading beauty and style magazines which seem to be marketing tools for beauty companies. And instead use your own judgement examining the smell, colour, consistency and the condition of your eyes, when it comes to formulating an opinion about the shelf life of your mascara.

RuthW · 13/10/2022 20:53

Mine last years!

PanPacificBallroomChampion · 13/10/2022 20:54

Years, same as my Kat Von D eyeliner 🫣

redskyhaze · 13/10/2022 20:56

Replacing make up every few months would cost an absolute fortune.

I tend to use mascaras for 8 months or so until they dry out and have powder/ eyeshadows that are years old.

greenacrylicpaint · 13/10/2022 20:57

yanbu
I use mine until it's dried up.
some of my eye shadows are a lot older than that.
