To have been using the same mascara since May?

Just bought some new mascara after my one started drying out. And it actually occurred to me that I have been using it since May…

Im quite surprised at myself, I just hadn’t realised how long I had had it…

I just keep thinking of the bacteria that must have been on it😱

Tell me I’m not alone here, what’s the longest you have kept mascara or any makeup for?

I use mine until they dry up and no longer work Grin
Never had conjunctivitis

When my mascara start to dry out I add a few drops of contact lense solution give it a good mix with the mascara wand. Keeps it going for ages and seems to wear just as well.

I bought mine in 2002.

I have a lovely Christian Dior eyeshadow palette that I have been using without any problems since 1979.

PinkHeadphones · 13/10/2022 22:52

I have had mine for about three years
I bought a new lipstick last year. It was to replace the one I bought for my wedding in 2006.
I don’t wear make up very often.

@Chloefairydust how would you get pink eye (an infection) from your own eye? I’m fairly sure the made up by cosmetic company use by date for mascara is 6 months after it’s opened as well.

MrsClatterbuck · 13/10/2022 22:55

I started a new one at the start of May and only finished it about a week ago. Had always read that you only use them for 3 months but I haven't really paid any heed so far.

I would still be thinking of mascara from May as new.
Not sure my oldest item but I've got lipstick from 2012

Exactly.
I’m using a new mascara at the moment.
Bought in April/ May.

Since May is no time!

Since May was the PM, maybe.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 13/10/2022 23:06

Confused It's 5 months, not 5 years!

LittleBearPad · 13/10/2022 23:08

How would you get conjunctivitis from your own mascara?

I thought if you didn’t change your mascara often you would get bacteria build up and pink eye? 🤔

I'm relieved to read the posts on here as I keep my make up for years and years too!
I don't even know when I bought my foundation which I probably use twice a year. I was thinking recently maybe I should buy a new one but after reading this thread I think it'll be fine Smile

Imissmoominmama · 13/10/2022 23:21

I use mascara until it’s gone. I usually buy a new one either in the ferry, or at the airport, when I go on holiday. So once a year.
