To think DH is taking the piss

Saying he can’t use the new cooker that was delivered. I was busy with the kids and he came in saying I needed to come and cook a meal for him as he “can’t” use the new cooker. Aibu to think he’s taking the piss here? It’s pretty self explanatory and the manual is there too if he needs it. Me and the kids had our evening meal (I was able to use the new cooker no problem) before DH came home from work as he was working slightly later than normal today. He’s in the kitchen now and fiddling about with the manual and still saying he can’t use it

Does he normally expect you to cook for him?

RoseslnTheHospital · 12/10/2022 19:39

It's daft to say he can't use it so you must cook for him. It's reasonable for him to ask you what he's doing wrong given that you've used it successfully.

I cook some nights and he cooks some nights too. I like cooking though whereas DH doesn’t as much

‘Strategic incompetence’.

Google it.

I couldn’t be with such a feckless specimen, but good luck to you.

Dacadactyl · 12/10/2022 19:40

I wonder why you didn't cook him an extra portion when you were cooking yours? I think it's odd that you didn't!

luxxlisbon · 12/10/2022 19:41

I mean, you aren’t taking the piss but I have a feeling you shouldn’t be surprised. I don’t think a man who usually carries his own weight would come in and demand his wife cooked for him. At most they might ask how the oven works if it’s extra fancy.
If you usually baby him don’t be surprised when he acts like a big baby though.

I thought it might have been this! I’m not cooking tonight now though, he’ll just have to get a takeaway if he genuinely can’t use it

He told me not to because he wanted something else

Very annoying! What is he trying to cook, and what is he struggling with? If I were in your shoes, I would probably show him how to do whatever it is he can't do, and then leave him to do it himself.

SerenaTee · 12/10/2022 19:43

How hard can it be? He presumably either needs to turn on an oven or turn on a hob ring!

He’s trying to cook one little portion of Spagbol for himself. Yeah I probably will end up having to show him how to do it and then leave him to it at this rate

This! I’ve told him multiple times that it self explanatory and if he’s still struggling then there’s a manual

Depends on the type of cooker.
If its those weird electric type ones that glow red ? then I have trouble with them too.

Dacadactyl · 12/10/2022 19:48

I think you sound hard work. Just tell him how to use it.

StupidSmallFruit · 12/10/2022 19:49

He sounds like hard work. Nobody is that stupid.

If the OP can figure it out, why is it beyond the husband?

ThanksAntsThants · 12/10/2022 19:51

It’s a cooker, how hard can it be?

CryCeratops · 12/10/2022 19:51

Even if the controls are very different to the ones on your old cooker, I’d expect a literate adult to be able to figure them out if he’s got the cooker manual in front of him.

Dancingintherainandsnow · 12/10/2022 19:57

He’s still saying he can’t figure it out now, he’s got the manual in front of him ffs, and he still keeps coming upstairs while I’m trying to do bath time and bed for the kids

Had he actually done the food prep bit or does he expect you to do that bit too

toomuchlaundry · 12/10/2022 19:58

What job does he do?

NoSquirrels · 12/10/2022 20:00

What exactly is he struggling with? Just turning it on? Confused

Yes, he’s saying he can’t even turn it on, and that he doesn’t know how to use it “at all”
