My GHD has died - what now?

HowDOyouspellIt · 06/10/2022 22:59

My trusty GHD has died after many noble hours (years) of taming this unruly mane. What do I replace it with?
Do I go for another GHD? Do I get an AirWrap? Is there another straightener I should be looking at?

(Clearly I am posting here for traffic, but just in case I'm called up on it , my AIBU is "AIBU to think you lovely people can solve my dilemma?")

Cloud Nines. Love mine :)

HighlandPony · 06/10/2022 23:01

Get it fixed? I wouldn’t go with anything else tbh. Mine have been fixed a million times by a local repair shop. Even when I left them at the farm for a weekend and the ducking rats ate them!!!!

Jessesgirl13 · 06/10/2022 23:01

Another vote for Cloud Nines

adomizo · 06/10/2022 23:02

Yes cloud nines. Better than your trusty ghd. Mines died in April and I was initially devastated too ! But u need to use cloud nines less and they are leaving my hair in better condition.

JacquelineCarlyle · 06/10/2022 23:13

Another vote for Cloud 9! They're like the original GHDs and are great!

TheBirdintheCave · 06/10/2022 23:14

After mine went on fire in my hand back in the early 2000s I took it as a sign to accept my hair the way it actually was 😂 I have natural curls and from that moment on spent time learning how to make them look nice :)

Xyzzzzz · 06/10/2022 23:16

Cloud 9

Pixiedust1234 · 06/10/2022 23:19

I think its bedtime. Was trying to figure out GHD - Grand Honoury dad, daughter? Then you said mane... so um German Hollster Draughtshorse ? 🤔😅

Came here to say this. So much better than my GHDs, I’ll never go back!

Moo31 · 06/10/2022 23:33

Another vote for cloud 9 here! I love mine - so much better than my previous GHDs!

FiveMins · 06/10/2022 23:35

I thought you were talking about a relative! Glad they are more replaceable 😁

Same 😂 Grand High Daughter? But then the post read too cheery Confused

I love GHD so would just replace

Gonewith · 06/10/2022 23:41

Another vote for cloud 9 here. I was a GHD loyal until my second set gave in. Opted for cloud 9 as a replacement and they’re so much better.

Shoes232 · 06/10/2022 23:49

I know lots of people have said cloud nine but I tried a them and their more expensive pair, and a curling wand and have been really disappointed. I went back to ghd and won't use anything else.

Lunar270 · 06/10/2022 23:50

Steer clear of ghd. They were great when they first came out but aren't built the same nowadays. I actually know one of the directors and whilst he's a great guy, they've gone down hill since he joined 😂

Too much cost cutting has resulted in cheap feeling and performing straighteners. No good when they cost a fair bit.

CrocodilesCry · 06/10/2022 23:52

Cloud 9s. Bought mine for less than a fiver from a charity shop.

IcakethereforeIam · 07/10/2022 00:10

I'm going to bed, I also believed it to be a relative or pet, German ? Dog, thoughts and prayers.

Anyone who saw me would know immediately, I have nothing useful to add to this thread.

Me too.

Amipreg1 · 07/10/2022 00:13

I'm afraid I don't have any advice... I've had my GHD's since I was 18, I'm now 33!

They seem to be indestructible.

Foronenightonly22 · 07/10/2022 00:25

Mine died recently too after our long term relationship of 20 years😢😢 My DH stood of them.🤬

I got pair of ‘original GHDs. They’re crap. So disappointed. Feel really light and ineffective.

@Lunar270 Couldn’t agree more. See my post above.

See that's the thing, the old ghds were fabulous but then they were bought out and they're not so good anymore. The bloke who created ghds now has a company called... cloud 9. Mine are fabulous, just like old ghds.

Nat6999 · 07/10/2022 00:42

I have the Glamour straighteners, adjustable temperature, ceramic plates, they are better than GHD & a lot cheaper.

Great to know about Cloud 9 as I wasn't aware, esp with Xmas coming 👍

eurochick · 07/10/2022 01:04

I posted a thread recently on this. My 20+ year old ghd's finally gave up a couple of weeks ago. I bought Cloud Nine wide plates and am very happy so far.
