I'm a bit low at the moment and very overwhelmed with work. Live alone so can be lonely. I do have some things to look forward to, but I want to recapture my love of home and life. Think clean sheets, the perfect cuppa and the perfect biscuit

loads of excellent ones here - will make a list

I was thinking of little tips I could do to look after myself like putting my mug next to the kettle with a tea bag in for when I get home, I think I am missing the feeling of being welcomed home if you know what I mean

You need a pet . You are always welcomed home and are never alone .

Some lovely positive thoughts on this post.

Meklk · 06/10/2022 19:45

*Autumn
*Morning coffee (me) and tea (son) with my son - we holding hands and cuddling
*My son brushing my hairs
*Soup
*My lovely postman, saying - "enjoy your beautiful day" every single morning (I'm leaving the house at the time he is coming to our street)
*New pyjama
*Good finds on charity shops

Viscount mint biscuits. Food of the gods.

FabFitFifties · 06/10/2022 19:51

This time of year I like to start a Christmas jigsaw - then have it framed, and ready for 1st of December. They go up, and my usual pics come down. In the house - an hour with a light hearted book. Outside - absolutely love a woodland walk, or coastal walk. Pilates online class sets me up too.

Snuggling under a blanket/duvet and reading a good book
Doing a jigsaw
Lighting a seasonal candle
Warm fluffy socks
Wearing perfume just because
Seasonal dog walks
Hugs and kisses from ds
Warm cups of tea/coffee/hot choc in my oversized mug
Friday night homemade pizza
Keeping my plants alive
Getting into my cosy bed after a long day of work
Waking naturally in the morning and not to an alarm (only on weekends)

Watching Midsomer Murders reruns.

My cat. She's very affectionate and she's used to her little routines: breakfast at 5:00, lunch at 11:00, brushing/ grooming after lunch, curling up on my lap while I'm watching tv.

Halloween decorations around the neighborhood. There's one property down the street that's loaded with them, including two giant skeletons, a graveyard, a witch with a bubbling cauldron, little ghosts hanging from tree branches, lots of glowing jack-o'-lanterns.

coldcaff · 06/10/2022 20:08

A long soak in a hot bath, preferably with bath oil or bubbles.

The sun on my face- even if it's just sun shining through the window.

A 'posh' coffee- usually a hotel chocolat hazelnut latte sachet in my velvetiser.

Taking a big deep breath of clean, fresh air when I first go outside in the morning.

ScarletWitchM · 06/10/2022 20:11

A hot bath, then moisturise and put on clean pjs and get into bed with fresh bedding and get lost in a book until my eyes need to sleep!

I also find that having something to look forward to really helps day to day… even something as simple as planning your dinner and spend the day looking forward to it, or maybe plan a day out

Blackcountryexile · 06/10/2022 20:21

@FirstnameSuesecondnamePerb . I'm glad that being near that church is a help to you.
Whenever I go into a church I think exactly the same. It always brings me comfort. .

Betsyboo87 · 06/10/2022 20:25

Ooh I am with you on the clean sheets! An early night with a book and clean sheets is absolute bliss.

I'm the same with Lego . I have the Christmas Elf house to make

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 06/10/2022 20:35

Going to bed with a cup of tea and a good book - and the electric blanket on.🙂

laloue · 06/10/2022 20:36

Getting up , making a flask and grabbing something to munch, then walking for as long as I can resist the coffee, before sitting with a steaming cup and croissant looking at wherever I end up (riverbank, churchyard, park, wood) and just feeling I have space and time to breathe. Coming home for a hot shower and a pot of coffee is all the more lovely.

Wherewassteve · 06/10/2022 20:37

A pet can't just be a thing that welcomes you home, op might be at work all day.

Comedycook · 06/10/2022 20:38

Lying in bed with clean sheets, a good book and my favourite TV show on.

Baking whilst listening to the radio.

sallyloveschips · 06/10/2022 20:41

Hot bath then getting into clean sheets.
Reading.
Coffee and cake.
Yoga.
Walking in nature on a crisp autumn day.
Being with my kids (mostly!)
Getting up and on early on a Sunday to hit a car boot sale - even better if I grab a bargain.
Big cosy blankets.
Having no plans and no obligations.
Pizza.

quirkychick · 06/10/2022 20:42

@queenofthewild we call them cow biscuits too 😊. They are malted milk, to whoever asked.

I think when you are feeling down, doing lovely things will help. It may take a little time, but they will.

Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight · 06/10/2022 20:45

I’m listening to the distant sound of church bells as the bell ringers practice. It reminds me of being a child as I could hear them where I grew up too and I love the sound.

Awoooga · 06/10/2022 20:47

Getting up first thing on a Saturday and going to the market
Lighting candles around the house in the evening

EllaPaella · 06/10/2022 20:48

Lovely thread.
Mine are:
Swimming in the sea on a frosty but sunny morning then getting warmed up in a coffee shop and having a lovely slice of cake.
Walking on the beach with my dog.
A long hot bath with a book and lovely bath oil.
A glass of red wine at the end of a busy Friday.
Snuggling on the sofa with the kids on a sunday afternoon to watch a film.

IwishIwasSupermum · 06/10/2022 20:48

Watching the birds preening and splashing around in the bird bath I keep full for them. Lots of other things but this one makes me smile.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 06/10/2022 20:50

I don't know why I’m admitting this, but DP is intent on forming his own “crow army”, so almost every day he goes for a walk passing the local Sainsbury’s carpark with a pocket full of bits of dried ham and “trains” the crows that gather there by making them line up on a railing and then throwing the ham for then catch it midair. They go mad for it. He hopes that one day they’ll follow him home and become tame. He took it up during lockdown and I think it gave him a sense of comfort and routine

This is the best thing I have ever read on Mumsnet! I really hope his crow army dreams come true.

elephantbreathing · 06/10/2022 20:50

Put your lamps on timers to be on when you come home.
Pop a wine glass in the fridge in readiness for a cold drink...I recommend the ready mixed cocktail cans. Always have ice to hand too.
A piece of special cheese and crackers to enjoy.
I get the Sunday Times every week and slowly read through the parts that interest me, and work through the crosswords over the next few days ( Never finished it yet!)
Light a candle by your bed.
I hope you find some pleasure in the simple things soon.

Giraffapuses · 06/10/2022 20:50

I fucking love kitkats. One a day after dinner.
