I'm a bit low at the moment and very overwhelmed with work. Live alone so can be lonely. I do have some things to look forward to, but I want to recapture my love of home and life. Think clean sheets, the perfect cuppa and the perfect biscuit
What are your simple joys?

DC all going put for evening so grabbing evening one with DH.

Chatting to my dd on the phone and dgc too.

CoffeeLover90 · 06/10/2022 14:20

@Piglet89 She's so sweet.
@crochetmonkey74 I usually have a cup set up, kettle fu

ShinyPikachu · 06/10/2022 14:22

Running a bath that's so hot when I get in that I'm sweating and then lying there reading a book until the water is cold. I have been known to top it up if it's a particularly good book. Even better if I take a bottle of wine in with me but I can't lie too low down if I'm drinking or I'd choke on it. Blush

I don't know why I’m admitting this, but DP is intent on forming his own “crow army”, so almost every day he goes for a walk passing the local Sainsbury’s carpark with a pocket full of bits of dried ham and “trains” the crows that gather there by making them line up on a railing and then throwing the ham for then catch it midair. They go mad for it. He hopes that one day they’ll follow him home and become tame. He took it up during lockdown and I think it gave him a sense of comfort and routine.

I like a walk around a quiet cemetery; or riding my bicycle along a route with varying terrain and seeing the effect of seasons changing.

This is brilliant best thing I’ve read all week @ComtesseDeSpair

WishingWell5 · 06/10/2022 14:22

Crappy tv such as the Real Housewives (I know I know) blanket, smarties, and a glass of red! Scented candle or flowers. Listening to podcasts.
Going for a long walk - that makes even an empty home warm and welcoming on your return.
Easy comfort food like part baked bread warm from the oven with whatever you're eating. Proper butter in a butter dish too - not spread in the fridge!

CoffeeLover90 · 06/10/2022 14:23

Bloody website.
@crochetmonkey74 as I was saying, a cup set up, kettle full and preferably something in the slow cooker ready to eat. Pyjamas and fluffy socks on the radiator nice and warm, time the heating to come on just before you're due in. Towel on radiator, nice hot bath or shower. Light some candles and relax.
Also chocolate.

This is totally something I would do. I have my own two garden crows and this spring they brought their baby to ‘show’ me. It was proper magic.

I’m a little bit in love with your DP.

loads of excellent ones here - will make a list

I was thinking of little tips I could do to look after myself like putting my mug next to the kettle with a tea bag in for when I get home, I think I am missing the feeling of being welcomed home if you know what I mean

Even better, get a tea pot. Nicer tea and you can take it over to the sofa with the milk in your mug while you wait for it to brew.

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 06/10/2022 14:26

My first cup of coffee of the day in my special mug.
DS in his Pikachu onesie
Getting my daughter's gym hair right
DH chuckling

bonzaitree · 06/10/2022 14:27

Hugging the dog.

Omg, I LOVE that! My ds is ASD & LOVES birds, I can see him adopting your DP's idea! :-)

bravotango · 06/10/2022 14:41

My cat welcoming me as I come in the door, and my baby wriggling around in my tummy as I approach his due date after TTC for a long time

mamabear715 · 06/10/2022 14:42

@crochetmonkey74
I don't live alone, but my grown up kids are in their rooms most of the time.. if I ever feel a bit lonely, I tell myself how lucky I am that I can do JUST as I please! Eat / sleep / watch what tv I want, etc.. thinking of the arguments that are going on in others' homes!

cookiecreammmpie · 06/10/2022 14:42

Getting into bed with clean bedding and my electric blanket on, reading a book and drinking a cup of tea. Having my back tickled/ hair stroked to sleep. Lusting over my celeb crush more than is healthy.

mamabear715 · 06/10/2022 14:42

@bravotango Oh, how lovely! xx

SirChenjins · 06/10/2022 14:44

Walking my dog, esp in the daylight (sunshine preferably). Even better if he’s behaving himself!

Summer

Reading a good book - one of those ones where you’re sad when it comes to the end

Spending time with my family - going out for dinner, a walk, that kind of thing.

A bluebell wood

A good drying day

Loads really. I suffer from depression which can get quite bad at this time of year, so these little things can often help keep me from going down.

abw94 · 06/10/2022 15:21

Warmed up chocolate fudge cake with ice cream whilst watching the soaps.

crochetmonkey74 · 06/10/2022 16:59

This afternoon my balcony was lit by indirect sunlight and I often don’t get to see it because I’m usually at work but it was glorious.

dottiedodah · 06/10/2022 17:05

Piglet 89 gorgeous girl ! I like a nice bath nice bedsocks, curling up with a nice cup of Earl grey. Watching doc Martin or similar

gluenotsoup · 06/10/2022 17:08

Op, if you are missing bring welcomed home, could you maybe get an Alexa or similar and get it to set a timer for a lamp and some music to come on when you get in? Other things could work with it too, such as putting the oven on a timer so food is cooking when you get in, or the washing is done, LED candles on a timer function.
I do some of those and it makes me feel like I’m already winning after a long day.
Cosy blankets, lamps, a good book, a crisp weather walk, some nice moisturiser. Time with my girls just chilling🙂

TheSausageKingofChicago · 06/10/2022 17:11
