AIBU to wonder why Lidl smells sooo bad? I on occasionally shop in there and went on the weekend. Bought the usual random stuff of essentials like chocolate, fishing boat etc but omg, the smell! Noticing it more this time and the smell has permeated through the house. What is it?? Smells like dog biscuits Confused

it reminds me of being on holidays in Spanish supermarkets

Yes, that's exactly what I feel like in Lidl and Aldi. Also stuff in the middle aisle with foreign language packaging only adds to this 😃

Do you own Lidl? Is that why you're so upset?

wingingit33 · 06/10/2022 12:04

Yep. Walked in once. Walked straight out!

These threads are getting really tedious. is now the time? When so many people are worrying about money? is there a need for these constant Aldi is scummy and Lidl smells of shit threads? If you can afford to shop at Waitrose just get on with it and STFU.

I was just coming on to say does anyone remember how the food halls in Harrods and Selfridges always used to stink? The delicious smell of roasting coffee with a top notes of the rotting cabbage smell of Camembert, fish and a damp, musty smell like the taste of stale water you get when food has been in the freezer too long.

Isn't it more surprising that supermarkets don't smell of the food they are selling? I guess ventilation systems are better nowadays and everything is wrapped in plastic.

Hahaha. This. My Lidl actually smells quite nice, freshly baked bread usually.

OhmygodDont · 06/10/2022 12:30

My local lidl stinks. Went in once and couldn’t get out fast enough. Aldi doesn’t seem to smell or our local Morrisons. lidl at the coast doesn’t seem to smell either or maybe all the sea air clears it out.

Big Tesco smells like sewage or air freshener to cover the sewage problem. It’s always stank though think it was built over something dodgy as it’s the whole building not just the bit Tesco is in despite the fact we all call it big Tesco.

My local Sainsbury's has a very bad smell in the cheese aisle, if that helps?

🤣🤣 Waitrose usually has manky meat on the shelves. I like Lidl but it does smell odd.

If you own Lidl could you please do something about the terrible smell in there? Your employees and customers would appreciate it.

LikeAStar1994 · 06/10/2022 14:04

Not all Lidls smell the same. Truly baffled why people on here think they do.

How is it mean to say a certain chain of shops smells weird? Confused

It’s the same smell as a lot of European supermarkets but I’ve never been able to figure out what it actually is.

Yes! Just what I was thinking .

Definitely a smell similar to supermarkets visited in Europe - but very different from other UK supermarkets eg Sainsbury's, Tesco.

bubble2000 · 06/10/2022 14:09

They don't say weird

They say soooo bad

Not sure that the OP or most posters were saying it smells of shit ! Just that it has a distinctive smell . Reminds me of shopping when on holiday 🤷‍♀️

Greenwish · 06/10/2022 14:28

The entrance of our Morrisons smell of really strong BO and has done for years, I don’t understand why

HailAdrian · 06/10/2022 14:30

For trying to work out what a certain smell could be? Jesus

AgentJohnson · 06/10/2022 16:47

How many Lidl’s have you smelt? How big was your research sample to warrant this now being a thing in your head? This ‘smell’ you talk of appears to be poorly veiled snobbery.

girlmom21 · 06/10/2022 16:48

You snob. Some of us wish we could afford noses.

Maggiethecat · 06/10/2022 23:54

If you see these savoury biscuits in LIDL give them a try. Super scrummy!

That LIDL smell??!
