AIBU to be scared of what I found in my McDonald’s (pic 🤢)

Had McDonald’s tonight, ordered the McPlant burger as usual and found this inside it! Does anyone have any clue what it could be?

Really hoping there’s a non gross explanation for this, it’s really put me off!

Dunno why my pic blew up so large & blurry Hmm

CourtneeLuv · 06/10/2022 07:01

You need to get that out the bin and keep it to be sent off.

It looks like a wart or verruca with root to me 🤮

WelcomeMats · 06/10/2022 07:03

My partner has had something similar in his McDonald’s a couple of times, in chicken and bacon burgers/wraps. He said he presumed ‘something from the salad’. 😅

FernlovingNodosaur · 06/10/2022 07:07

Sorry this is not pleasant for you, but does it have a particular smell to it? Could help a lot with identifying it.

No hormones / antibiotics make it into the food chain here.

If only that were true.
I’m sure most animals used in human food chain are full of veterinary drugs- wormers &c at very least.
Horse meat ended up in beef a few years ago.

Juniperwren11 · 06/10/2022 07:30

It looks like it has teeth.

If you believe that you’ll believe anything. Even Chickens are pumped full of Antibiotics and Hormones to make them grow faster. Or look at Cows in a field do you think they get that fat on grass alone. The addition of these things plus other chemicals to animal feed is the reason why our children are starting puberty earlier, our men are growing Moobs, cancers are on the increase and simple illnesses and viruses take much longer to heal from.

DeliberatelyObtuse · 06/10/2022 07:36

Looks like a sprouting pea

You wouldn't get that in a Big Mac (I know I know....)

bodie1890 · 06/10/2022 07:41

I think it's a piece of lettuce that has got stuck to the bun and gone bad. If it was on the bottom of the bun, the staff may not have noticed.

You should definitely let them know because it's gross and unhygienic, you could have been ill if you'd eaten it.

lannistunut · 06/10/2022 07:41

HairyMcLarie · 06/10/2022 06:20

Fascinating isn't it. Plant based is supposed to be healthier and better for the planet and yet there is nothing in there that isn't massively super processed. Grim.

Content of actual meat burger form MD. 'Beef'

Not sure a McDonalds beef burger is a great chice with all the hormones and antibiotics already in the cow before it is killed, then the saturated fat etc. The environmental implications of beef are considerable.

Processed food in general is to be avoided, a plant-based diet is healthy but processed food of any type is not.

The answer is to avoid McDonalds full stop!

bodie1890 · 06/10/2022 07:44

@lannistunut Agreed.

Also to those saying you'd never find this in a beef burger, this was on the bottom of the bun and OP thinks it's likely a piece of lettuce (and I agree). It could easily also have found its way to a meat based burger.

That’s like an A Level chemistry text. How on Earth can all those chemicals possibly be healthy or doing anyone any good. Every time I look at labels on foods sold I just think to myself “no wonder there is so much cancer these days”.
It’s not only pollution folks it’s your food and that’s a Bean sprouting..

So many chemicals?! Methyl cellulose is used as a thickener - lots of people with swallowing difficulties use this to thicken their drinks so they don’t choke/drown. Here it’s used to bind the ingredients. Potassium chloride is a potassium salt used for seasoning, potassium is also essential for normal body function. Sunflower lecithin emulsified fats and water. It also helps reduce ‘bad’ cholesterol. Maltodextrin is just a simple carb used for sweetness. All the other things are just veg/fruit.

Yes it’s processed but it’s McDonald’s everything is processed!

It looks like the vegan sauce but crystallised? Not sure what it is but it looks to be in this photo as well.

Who’s going to McDonald’s and ordering a plain beef patty? Look at the ingredients of the bun and the sauce…. It’s all a GCSE science experiment. Fecking tasty though.

eyeteevee · 06/10/2022 07:51

@wizzywascal

Did you post the wrong link? I can't see anything like it in those pics

Albgo · 06/10/2022 07:53

quittingdaily · 06/10/2022 00:38

YABU - That's just an innocent raisin trying to sprout its young! No?

@quittingdaily GrinGrin

hellcatspangle · 06/10/2022 07:58

Looks like something that's sprouted so I'd assume something planty. However, what the hell is in that plant burger? Looks like a whole bunch of additives and flavourings and bugger all else, why's it only 13% pea protein?

Lesserspotteddogfish · 06/10/2022 07:58

This is why you shouldn’t analyse your food. Just eat it.

Septemberintherain · 06/10/2022 08:01

I once found a coiled up worm in my filet o fish, have never been able to face one since.

LikeAStar1994 · 06/10/2022 01:34

I hope you don't mind OP but I downloaded the photo onto my phone and used Google Lens to try and identify it.

It came up with "Flea"

Confused

Fleas aren't that big.

The brown part looks like a raisin.

mountainsunsets · 06/10/2022 08:07

It just looks like a bean (or similar) that's sprouted.

dworky · 06/10/2022 08:08

Well, it's clearly plant based so I wouldn't worry.

Dogtooth · 06/10/2022 08:09

I mean it’s really not. I hate the McPlaht burger with the hatred of 1000 words but do we really have to do the anti intellectual “long words are bad for us”?

Pea protein - ok yes they have to do something to peas to make them more like meat. Not a surprise.
Rapeseed oil - yes, I cook with this when frying too
Coconut oil - also got a jar in my kitchen
Stabiliser - necessary in pretty much all non ultra fresh food
Potato starch - you ever boiled potatoes and noticed white stuff in the pan?
Apple extract - you seriously have a problem with this?
Salt - I mean not great but you know what it is
pomegranate extract - again you seriously have a problem with this?
potassium chloride - literally the only remotely chemical test thing on the list. It’s a salt for the record. And used as a med for people low on potassium
concentrated lemon juice - are we all ok with this? 😬
Maize vinegar - its a vinegar oh no
Yeast extract - I mean I hate marmite too but I don't freak out at it.

I suspect I'd get a similarly long list making something like red cabbage and apple from scratch. Long words are really not this scary.
