How long do you leave cards up for?

We've had a baby recently and have received lots of lovely cards (and continue to do so as people visit). They're on our mantle as well as the window sill in the living room.

How long do you usually keep your cards up for?

I don't want to take them down yet but my husband thinks it's probably time.

For a new baby, or wedding etc a few weeks is fine, or as long as you want. Birthdays a few days.

inheritanceshiteagain · 05/10/2022 10:45

About a week, then they annoy me. Special cards like baby ones I tend to keep in a box

Friendofdennis · 05/10/2022 10:45

As long as you want. My birthday cards are still up 6 weeks down the line as they make me feel happy

KimberleyClark · 05/10/2022 10:47

We had our wedding anniversary three weeks ago, cards are still up.

Charlavail · 05/10/2022 10:49

A week. But then with babies they don't all come on a set day...

Itwasgoodwhileitlasted · 05/10/2022 10:50

One week on the dot.

yikesanotherbooboo · 05/10/2022 10:57

Usually until the next occasion or major spring clean.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 05/10/2022 10:59

New baby? A month. Christmas cards? From the minute we get them to 5th January. Birthday or Anniversary? A week.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 05/10/2022 10:59

New house or new job? About 2 or 3 weeks.

RainbowsMoonbeams · 05/10/2022 10:59

A week is standard in my house.

SalviaOfficinalis · 05/10/2022 11:01

A few weeks. A bit longer with baby cards because they arrive in dribs and drabs and I wouldn’t want the latecomer cards to be lonely!

AuntieMarys · 05/10/2022 11:01

A week. But never put Xmas cards up

Ifailed · 05/10/2022 11:04

Once I've read them, straight to recycling.

JenniferWooley · 05/10/2022 11:07

Birthday cards - only up for the actual day

Christmas cards - until the decorations come down on 27th

New baby/wedding/new home/get well soon/sympathy - a week at most

Mumblechum0 · 05/10/2022 11:12

A week for birthday/anniversary cards generally.

butterfliedtwo · 05/10/2022 11:13

I read them, then I recycle them.

TeenDivided · 05/10/2022 11:16

Up to a month.

inappropriateraspberry · 05/10/2022 11:36

All cards, apart from Christmas cards, stay up for a week, then taken down and recycled.
We have some string up across a bit of wall that all our cards are hung over. Keeps them out the way!

Ski4130 · 05/10/2022 11:36

We’ve got a long string of fairy lights that go across the dining room wall at nearly veiling height, all cards get hung on those and have been known to stay up there for a good month (birthday cards, Christmas cards ger taken down when the Christmas decs get taken down)

Cw112 · 05/10/2022 11:37

I'd be inclined to leave them up a few weeks so guests visiting you can see you appreciated it. No more than 3 weeks probably then the clutter would start to annoy me!

CannibalQueen · 05/10/2022 12:16

A new baby, a month. Birthdays, five days tops. Christmas a week.

user26189065 · 05/10/2022 12:18

Birthday cards and similar usually at least a month, Christmas cards until tree comes down

user26189065 · 05/10/2022 12:19

I forgot to add, we don't get many so it is not very cluttery

DahliasLove · 05/10/2022 12:21

Birthdays are a week. But I would say celebrations like new borns, marriage etc more like 2.

FuzzyPuffling · 05/10/2022 12:24

A week.
