How long do you leave cards up for?

We've had a baby recently and have received lots of lovely cards (and continue to do so as people visit). They're on our mantle as well as the window sill in the living room.

How long do you usually keep your cards up for?

I don't want to take them down yet but my husband thinks it's probably time.

I left my baby cards up about 8 weeks 🤦‍♀️ I felt like the whole high of having a newborn was over once I took them down 😂

Sophfreddie · 05/10/2022 13:32

Oh, people got my MIL cards too when My baby was born (thought it was a bit strange but 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️) she's still got them out.. he's 5 months old now..

EmmaC78 · 05/10/2022 13:32

A week is fine although I normally just read and recycle straight away.

Hobbesmanc · 05/10/2022 13:35

aww I feel sad for those poor cards that get recycled straight away and never even get out on display!

Special cards - thank you cards, wedding invites, anniversary etc can stay on the mantelpiece for weeks. Birthday cards don't go up until the birthday but generally survive a week. Christmas cards come down with the decs after New Years day

LynneBenfield · 05/10/2022 13:37

About a week for birthdays. Unusual occasions like new baby, new home or weddings, probably a few weeks to a month .

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 05/10/2022 13:53

Annual occasion ones (birthdays, anniversaries etc) stay up for 2 weeks. One off event ones would stay up for longer, especially if there was a longer 'arrival window', but we haven't had one of those for years.

TokyoSushi · 05/10/2022 13:57

For a baby, maybe a couple of weeks whilst they were still arriving. For a birthday or other 'standard' event, 5 days to a week.

londonrach · 05/10/2022 14:02

A week. New baby maybe slightly longer but only as too tried to move them

Scarlettpixie · 05/10/2022 14:06

Min 2 weeks here.

KermitlovesKeyLimePie · 05/10/2022 14:06

When did you have the baby OP?

Floralnomad · 05/10/2022 14:07

About a week

Sceptre86 · 05/10/2022 14:07

Birthday cards I keep up for a week or two. New baby cards I pick up whenever I remember so it was when our current baby was 2 months. They brightened up the living room.

PaperPalace · 05/10/2022 14:08

My rule of thumb is two weeks. Sometimes ends up being longer though.

caringcarer · 05/10/2022 14:10

Birthday cards about 10 days. Baby cards about 2 weeks. I love to see cards up on inglenook.

SavingsThreads · 05/10/2022 14:13

Udon it for as long as they bring you joy. No one ever lay on their death bed and thought "I wish I'd taken the cards down sooner"

ParkheadParadise · 05/10/2022 14:15

Birthday cards - 1 week
Mass/ Sympathy cards - 2 weeks
New Baby/ house cards - 2/3 weeks.

TheSausageKingofChicago · 05/10/2022 14:15

A week for birthdays but baby or wedding cards a month

StrawberrySquash · 05/10/2022 14:22

A week for birthdays! People are brutal. Mine hang around for a month. Baby cards I would keep longer; it's a big deal.

LongLostTeacher · 05/10/2022 14:22

New baby - 1 month
Birthday - 2 weeks
Christmas - all come down on the 6th Jan

This sounds rigid but sometimes I lose track and it’s longer and sometimes I’ve had enough of them and they go sooner. Christmas cards never left longer though.

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 05/10/2022 14:26

Ifailed · 05/10/2022 11:04

Once I've read them, straight to recycling.

You didn't keep your baby congratulations cards?

frillypots · 05/10/2022 14:28

Confused mine are up for 2-3 days then I've had enough as it's clutter to me Blush

Cheeselog · 05/10/2022 14:29

Usually until the next occasion that we get cards for! We have ours on a picture shelf though so they’re not in the way.

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 05/10/2022 14:31

I don't care about most cards and am fairly oblivious to any not made by my DC, so the ones that do make it up could stay up for ages until it occurs to get rid.

AriettyHomily · 05/10/2022 14:31

They got on my nerves after a few days, I'd Jew them up longer for a new baby when people are still visiting though

goldfinchonthelawn · 05/10/2022 14:32

Birthdays - 1 week
Christmas - arrival until 1st jan or 12th Night depending on who wins the annual battle between Dh and me over when to take decs down.
New baby, new home - a month maybe?
