Do you wear foundation on an "ordinary" day outside the house?

No - yanbu
Yes - yabu

Wondering, completely neutrally (each woman obviously should decide for herself). Obviously it's nobody else's business on an individual level, but I'm wondering whether more women do or don't statistically rather than about why individuals do or don't.

I wear a tinted serum thing which is quite nice and light most days but will go without.

I often need a bit of brightness as my skin goes grey in autumn/winter.

Ooh that sounds interesting what brand is it @Merryoldgoat

I wear a moisturiser and then a light foundation both have spf 25 and that's the main reason for wearing. I also have redness from rosacea so it helps with that.

Doesn't sound like many are wearing an spf

SPF50 all year round 🤷🏻‍♀️ Literally everyone I’ve ever told looks at me like I’m ridiculous. I don’t think it’s normalised unfortunately

Bottomofthepileasusual · 01/10/2022 15:44

No never. Foundation only if going out and it's dark. I hate the look and feel of it.
Tinted moisturiser if going out but normally just some concealer to hide the fact that I'm knackered

Penguinsaregreat · 01/10/2022 15:45

No. I wear it for nights out. Sometimes I wear a bb cream with spf in.

CatchersAndDreams · 01/10/2022 15:47

I do in spring, autumn and winter. Ny fake tan is enough in summer 😂

Metabigot · 01/10/2022 15:47

No, I no longer wear foundation but will wear a tinted primer or serum and a swish of glowy powder instead

Foundation is a bit outdated now methinks

Honeylover333 · 01/10/2022 15:48

No.

girljulian · 01/10/2022 15:48

I was going to say I've never ever worn foundation but then I saw someone mention Dream Matte Mousse and I had a late teens flashback! I used to wear that -- is it considered foundation? These days I never put anything on my skin except (if I'm going somewhere where I want to look particularly nice) maybe a tinted moisturiser and a bit of concealer under my eyes.

RampantIvy · 01/10/2022 15:50

No. I'm fortunate enough to have the kind of skin that doesn't need it. I wear tinted moisturiser to work.

PorridgePowered · 01/10/2022 15:51

Nope. I much prefer to stay bare faced. I think because as a teen I had crap skin and felt like I needed make up to look ok. I do like a bit of make up for special occasions though, I think it completes the outfit.

As an aside, I don't really think about ordinary/not ordinary days. As in, even if I'm 'just' walking the dog, doing housework, and looking after my son, I always get properly dressed etc. I don't really have 'house clothes' (leggings, baggy jumpers...) like some do. Am I in a minority on this? Always wondered!

whenindoubtgotothelibrary · 01/10/2022 15:52

Same as doodlepug. Very pale and blonde with non existent brows and lashes. Quick swipe of powder foundation to even out my skin tone, then fill in my brows with a product intended for palesters like me, and a quick coat of mascara. Takes about 60 seconds but makes me look and feel more defined and put together. Doesn't go funny and greasy in the day and very portable and easy to top up.

LynneBenfield · 01/10/2022 15:56

No. I don’t wear foundation or tinted base unless it’s a formal occasion (very rare for me, maybe once a year). My skin is even and clear, so no need. I do wear mascara most days though and a subtle (not TOWIE style) bronzer and peachy blusher if I need a bit of perking up and am going to the pub or out for a bite to eat or something.

ladygindiva · 01/10/2022 15:59

FlorettaB · 01/10/2022 12:11

No. I do wear tinted moisturiser, concealer, blusher and eyebrow pencil.

Ditto, except swap eyebrow pencil for mascara ( I have perfect brows but crap lashes)

NutHatch23 · 01/10/2022 16:13

Pre-lockdown - yes
Post-lockdown - not a chance. Gone the same way as my underwires bras and feel much better for it!

Redqueenheart · 01/10/2022 16:16

I think I wear foundation a couple of times a year...if I need to have picture taken or if I go on a special night out maybe.

I don't like the idea of constantly wearing something that feels like a mask...

kimchifix · 01/10/2022 16:18

No. I only wear foundation if I am going out in the evening, and even then not always. If I think it's required, let's say, in order to look as though one has made an effort as befits the occasion where other people have made an effort to dress up / wear jewellery / look nicer. The reason is, I find it time consuming to apply properly so that it's not all clogged in pores or looks caked into wrinkles. It requires a super cleansed face, fuzz removal, moisturising to death and priming. Right bloody faff. Much easier to apply if you are young with a nice smooth/plump face! I'm pretty lazy tbh.

If I want to look like I am alive as opposed to an actual walking corpse I might bother to wear mascara / and or a bit of lip colour / and then I may apply said lip colour to cheeks too (in a dab and scrub motion) but only if I'm feeling really adventurous / particularly dead looking.

Beezknees · 01/10/2022 16:20

I do on weekdays when I go to work, or at weekends if I'm going out for a meal or something. If I'm just popping out to the shops and pottering around at the weekend then no.

Carlycat · 01/10/2022 16:22

I use Laura Geller Balance and Brighten on a casual day or evening plus light blusher and lipstick
Full on makeup only for an occasion

WimbyAce · 01/10/2022 16:25

I hardly wear make up at all these days. Moisturiser every day without fail and a bit of concealer under the eyes.

HazelBite · 01/10/2022 16:33

I'm 70, and put on make up every day, not heavy as its not a good look at my age!
However due to having a very uneven skin tone since my early teens I have worn foundation for ever, as a result (I think) my skin has aged well compared to many of my age. For the last 15 years or so I have mixed an SPF tinted foundation with a moisturiser and used that as it is much lighter.
I look gruesome without makeup and since I was in my mid 30's have not left the house without it.

Iwantmymilkback · 01/10/2022 16:35

If I am going in the office, i wear concealer for my dark circles, powder and mascara. For a night out or special occasions i would add eyeliner

If i am out and about with kids, mascara is more than enough.

Rutland2022 · 01/10/2022 16:36

I did in my 20’s but haven’t since my 30’s (now in my 40’s).

DappledThings · 01/10/2022 16:38

Mummadeze · 01/10/2022 13:35

I thought everyone wore it every day! I look much worse without it so wouldn’t consider not wearing it. I put on foundation, lipstick, blusher, mascara and eyebrow powder every morning which takes less than 5 minutes. And honestly, I look really natural. Just healthier and younger than I look naturally.

I don't believe for a second you actually think this. Loads of women wear no make-up at all. Even if in your circle most do you must see other women out and about. Nobody is as daft to think their personal opinions on make-up and how much they were are universal.

I wear make-up about once a year. I have rosacea which flares and goes down pretty much constantly. Can't be arsed worrying about it or trying to cover it up. Sometimes sunlight seems to make it worse, sometimes better so I just let it be what it is.

Mummummummumyyyyy · 01/10/2022 16:39

Yes everyday, plus mascara and eyebrow pencil. Lipstick for special occasions.

Tanfastic · 01/10/2022 16:40

Yep. My complexion is rubbish though. I have a coup,e of make up free days a week but normally on a Sunday if I'm staying in (or just walking the dog) and my wfh days.
