Thank goodness for this. The big problem of the last decade has been too much public spending.

Finally someone is going to cut the waste of a those extra ambulances we don't need and the thousands of surplus nurses who sit around doing nothing.

As a teacher it will be sad not to have huge pay rises every year but we need to fund the tax cuts for millionaires somehow.

It will be nice to be able to walk down the street without seeing police officers every 5 minutes.

What public service waste do you want to see cut now we are finally going to stop the waste?

Oh I’m so with you OP. Home care for the elderly, definitely. I mean, do they really want strangers popping in all the time to help them get dressed and take their medication at their age? Is it really the kindest thing to do? Let’s just stop that waste right now.

Onandgrowing · 01/10/2022 08:17

You are so right OP. It is absolutely ridiculous that the children I teach are only having to wait as little as 2 years to be assessed by speech and language, CAMHS, Educational psychologists and the like. 5 years would be perfectly adequate.

CPSW · 01/10/2022 08:19

I can’t wait to be out of a job. Cos let’s face it those children should be able to safeguard themselves by now. Bravo 👏

AFS1 · 01/10/2022 08:20

I think the American idea where teachers have to bring in their own classroom supplies could be extended here. And not just teachers: - doctors should pay for any surgical equipment, firefighters should supply their own fire engines….think of how much money could be saved if all essential equipment was paid for by the person doing the job.

CPSW · 01/10/2022 08:24

Excellent idea! I also think that annual household waste collections would be more than adequate.

Marigoldandivy · 01/10/2022 08:26

Absolutely. Why pay for a NHS when we could all buy a medical dictionary and do it ourselves!

Good point. It's obscene how much carers are paid for so little work.

I have long felt sad for the hard working hedge fund managers who's blood and sweat pays for their party lifestyle.

Dentists for me. I think one per major city would be sufficient. For emergencies and the like.

MissyB1 · 01/10/2022 08:27

No need for surgeons at all, surely with you tube we could teach people to operate on themselves at home?

KnobbyKnobson · 01/10/2022 08:27

People are already on board with DIY dentistry so clearly it can be done.

Bagzzz · 01/10/2022 08:35

Plenty of scope to cut rail and bus services outside London. Why do people need to get places if the they can’t drive, cycle or walk? Haven’t they heard of survival of the fittest?

BluOcty · 01/10/2022 08:39

I'm so glad that 2500 UK millionaires will share £1 billion of our money thanks to the Growth Plan. I can't wait to see the innovation that those wealth creators will unleash!

It already happens Sad

Lonelycrab · 01/10/2022 08:43

Maybe just get rid of schools? Get your kids up, slap on a bit of YouTube, there’s plenty of science and maths things on there these days don’t you know.

We could use the money for a huge gold statue of Liz, put it on the fourth plinth, everyone’s happy!

You are teaching children?! What do you think libraries bookshops are for! Shame on you

Plenty of scope to cut rail and bus services outside London.

Let's say outside the south east- MPs need to get to their second homes.

The provinces get almost a third of what the capital does, per person, to spend on transport, why so much?

Let's just scrap
Pensions because we are short of workers anyway so why pay people to sit at home when then could be working

GottaGetOutofDairy · 01/10/2022 08:49

The Levelling Up Secretary is on the paper for saying Liz Truss is going to (rightly) 'trim the fat' by cutting back welfare.

It's literally his job to see that deprived areas get a fair deal that allows them to 'level up' and HE's talking about trimming the fat (an offensive term to start with).

That said, I shall be relieved to know that, should anything happen to anyone that means they need help, they will receive a strong and resolute reply from the government to fuck off. (joke)

Questionaboutjoboffer · 01/10/2022 08:49

For me it’s the state pension that should go - it’s really the responsibility of the individual to fund their own retirement - so if they haven’t been motivated enough to do that it’s on them 🤷🏽‍♀️ Hmm

(rightly) - in his opinion, not mine.

The fire service is an obvious choice. Have you seen the price of energy? There’s no need to be extinguishing a free heat source.

Forget you tube.

BBC bitesize is sufficient!

That’s a genuinely held belief in some parts of MN. 😪

UseOfWeapons · 01/10/2022 08:54

What a relief! We don’t need healthcare, or defence, and there’s absolutely no point in education when wages are so low. The proles just need to suck it up, why shouldn’t the wealthy have tax cuts, the low aged and struggling should really work more hours, and fit in further training so they can get rich too.

That’s what scares me @Blossomtoes - that the government will actually do this eventually.
