Thank goodness for this. The big problem of the last decade has been too much public spending.

Finally someone is going to cut the waste of a those extra ambulances we don't need and the thousands of surplus nurses who sit around doing nothing.

As a teacher it will be sad not to have huge pay rises every year but we need to fund the tax cuts for millionaires somehow.

It will be nice to be able to walk down the street without seeing police officers every 5 minutes.

What public service waste do you want to see cut now we are finally going to stop the waste?

I can see plenty of entrepeneur start-ups. Midwifery, dentistry, doctors can all be done by someone watching an onlone course and downloading a certificate.
I know this is meant to be lighthearted but i'm genuinely terrified of this disgusting government

I think we should close all state schools entirely. If you choose to have children you should be willing to pay for their needs. If you don’t have a spare £10k per year per child for private education then you shouldn’t have had children.

This is a ridiculous comment.

Teach the spouses how to do it, you can't always reach where you need to in order to operate.

And if you don't have someone over 18 living with you, ask your neighbour.

It is a training opportunity for the under 18s.

Gillian Mckeith was ahead of the curve then

Well they can when the hose pipe bans have been lifted. Until then, not so much.

We could let the sewage companies bid on access to reservoirs to use for dumping their waste. Twofold benefit - money in the coffers and water levels topped up so that the bans can be lifted. It's win-win. And if cholera makes a comeback then Rees-Mogg will be ecstatic and can party like its 1866.

I don't really know why we bother with public services at all tbh. Everyone should pay for what they need directly, and if they can't afford it, then they need to work harder.

Get rid of all of them, just keep enough border force officials so that we can send all the immigrants to Rwanda. And maybe a few prisons, or we could bring back the death penalty to save on costs.

I like your thinking - yes just scrap the whole lot. Emergency services, councils, NHS - everything. There will probably be some do gooders that will step in at some point.

Blanketpolicy · 01/10/2022 09:41

I have never understood why people can't take their own bins to the coup instead of sending expensive bin lorries to pick up. The bins even have wheels and handles now and to be frank many could with the exercise and this could have a knock on effect of saving the NHS money too!

Limit the expense claims of MPs- no second home allowance for example, just provide a hotel space in London if needed when the House sits.

I genuinely dont understand why they can't have purpose built accommodation where they all stay when they can't travel back to their constituency.

The MPs would need a certain level of security I guess. So rather than wasting money on construction how about turning a nearby prison into their digs? They could bunk up with serving prisoners...

Im totally in favour of scrapping all benefits. We could just bring back the workhouses. Gruel is SO much cheaper- and think of the money saved on free school meals! No need to educate the little blighters either. Not like they’ll get out anytime soon.

Weirdwonders · 01/10/2022 09:45

It’s road maintenance and street lighting for me. Who cares about potholes and street furniture when you could just buy a diamond encrusted Humvee and drive wherever the hell you like.

kikisparks · 01/10/2022 09:48

Get rid of tax free childcare and funded childcare hours, women shouldn’t have children if they’re going to let them be raised by someone else.

Take away benefits for single mothers- the father should be paying for those children. If he’s not working/ useless/ impossible to find/ dead then that’s the woman’s fault for choosing him to parent her children.

Also, no benefits if you’re working. This will naturally incentivise employers to pay employees more, rather than push employees into poverty.

Schools for disabled children- they don’t need educated surely?

Any services for autism, adhd, dyslexia etc, they didn’t have these things back in the day, you just have to cope with society.

Getting rid of the human rights act will save on court bills too as the government can infringe human rights with impunity and nobody can do anything about it.

Ditto workers rights, think of the saving to the public purse if all public service workers had no right to maternity pay, sick pay, redundancy pay, equal pay, holiday pay. In fact why not put all public service workers on zero hour contracts.

Get rid of legal aid, if you can’t afford a lawyer that’s your own fault.

Reinstate summary evictions by landlords with no need for a court or tribunal order, saves so much court time.

Bring back the death penalty, all those prisoners are sitting about costing us money.

(Scary thing is you could probably find someone who will agree with most of these suggestions).

Plenty of scope to cut rail and bus services outside London. Why do people need to get places if the they can’t drive, cycle or walk? Haven’t they heard of survival of the fittest?

Even more scope for cutting them inside London, of course. Turn those tunnels into cycle networks; carrying your bike up and down the escalators would be great strength exercise to add to the aerobic benefit and the pavements would be free for runners and walkers. Londoners would become so fit most of health and social care would become redundant.

I read the first few posts with a 'you've hit that on the nail' feeling, but then it was just all a bit too much and too 'real'. I've had to skip the other posts.

I don't know what the fuck we're going to do.

I just want an actual grown up to take charge.

I hope everyone wanting Boris out understands why many of us were saying 'he's far from perfect but it could be a LOT worse',

Sirius3030 · 01/10/2022 09:57

It’s clear there are a few people in government (well, two actually) who make decisions. The rest of the MPs just sit around saying ‘Aye’. So we can ditch parliamentary democracy, that should save a lot on MPs salaries and particularly on their expenses, second homes, etc.

Yeah, we're all being pretty facetious on this thread, but it isn't really something to joke about in reality. It's bloody awful.

I dread what to think what the government are actually going to cut, now that they have totally fucked the economy.

DowningStreetParty · 01/10/2022 10:11

The terrifying thing is the Tories have already suggested a lot of these. They’re really dangerous.

Of course it's bloody awful, we all know that. The ability to laugh at how awful things are is crucial, it's what's got me through recent years.

It isn't somehow morally better to be miserable in the face of adversity, we are all different.

When I remember how much better (on average) life in the UK was in the Blair/Brown years I just despair.

I never voted for Blair and understand why he's disliked but the difference having a competent group of people in charge, trying their best, makes is enormous.

Oh, it wasn't a criticism of the thread at all, OP. I have joined in with the facetiousness further up the thread, and I completely agree that a sense of humour is essential in order to survive this nonsense.

It's simply that all these ironic comments are depressingly close to the Tory reality.

To be honest, mumsent is fast replacing 111 for medical help.
Yes of course some people spout nonsense.

Lalliella · 01/10/2022 10:17

Public sector workers - pah! Spongers, the lot of them. What use are they to society, their profits are zero, they never raise any money at all. Get rid of them and replace them with hedge fund managers.

TheRubyRedshoes · 01/10/2022 10:17

But I always ask here about stuff and get decent insight's!

Luckycatt · 01/10/2022 10:24

Statutory maternity pay? If we got rid of that we could give the millionaires a few more quid?

If mothers haven't saved enough to pay for their own maternity leave, they shouldn't be having kids, frankly. Ditto nursery places for 2/3 year olds.

I just misread this as ‘pensioners’
