Thank goodness for this. The big problem of the last decade has been too much public spending.

Finally someone is going to cut the waste of a those extra ambulances we don't need and the thousands of surplus nurses who sit around doing nothing.

As a teacher it will be sad not to have huge pay rises every year but we need to fund the tax cuts for millionaires somehow.

It will be nice to be able to walk down the street without seeing police officers every 5 minutes.

What public service waste do you want to see cut now we are finally going to stop the waste?

That’s what scares me @Blossomtoes - that the government will actually do this eventually.

Not a Tory government. They'd lose their base.

GottaGetOutofDairy · 01/10/2022 09:00

Surely we don't need to bring spending under control?

The government have promised to grow the economy to "ensure prosperity for all people and future generations" (petition.parliament.uk/petitions/619781)

😉

Iwantmyoldnameback · 01/10/2022 09:02

Please stop giving him ideas.

cakeorwine · 01/10/2022 09:03

It's the usual efficiency savings which you hear all the time
Not increasing budgets by inflation.

Of course, we are going to be spending much more on interest payments now as well as our usual debt repayments.

ScarlettSunset · 01/10/2022 09:03

We definitely don't need any maternity services. Women have been having babies forever so they must know how to do it themselves by now

balalake · 01/10/2022 09:06

To answer the question.

No SPADs on the public payroll,
Reduce the number of MPs say to 500,
Reduce the House of Lords say to 100.
Smaller number of local councillors
None of these PR stunt visits
Halve the PR and press operation in government
Halve the number of employees in Downing Street
Limit the expense claims of MPs- no second home allowance for example, just provide a hotel space in London if needed when the House sits.
Savings from bringing rail back into public ownership (and any other areas where this would happen)
No free eye tests, prescriptions, bus passes for anyone who has been or is a higher rate tax payer.

purplethings · 01/10/2022 09:07

If they would only scrap minimum wage think how business could benefit. Nursery and school classes should triple in size to save on childcare costs. All those woke number limitations are why it's become so unaffordable !

LynetteScavo · 01/10/2022 09:10

I think lockdown proved we don't really need schools. Children can learn from home on a laptop. School land can then be sold off for housing, so it's a win win.

CasaDelSoot · 01/10/2022 09:18

People have learned to manage without access to GP services during covid so let's not bother worrying about replacing GP as they leave.
People know their own health best so let's leave them to it.

They can always ask a pharmacist, since that seems to be they advice they get from the answering service that replaced the GP receptionist anyway

the80sweregreat · 01/10/2022 09:18

Why not stop ministers taking private jets to Australia to broker trade deals saving 500 thousand ? Oh , wait , that has already happened.
Or stop their ridiculous expense claims.
There must be other ways of cutting back on things

For me it’s the state pension that should go - it’s really the responsibility of the individual to fund their own retirement - so if they haven’t been motivated enough to do that it’s on them 🤷🏽‍♀️ Hmm

Some of these posts are a bit close to what I imagine the actual plans are!

Oh don’t say this people probably believed that too

inheritanceshiteagain · 01/10/2022 09:22

Well he'll need to do something to pay for all the tax cuts for the rich

inheritanceshiteagain · 01/10/2022 09:23

I am actually looking at Keir Starmer with more favour now

DowningStreetParty · 01/10/2022 09:25

Cut all spending on those woolly liberal ‘green’ ideas. Musk’s building some moon rockets for billionaires that’ll be ready pretty soon so we may as well just write this planet off as a bad job now, and let the successful humans start again elsewhere

The fire service is an obvious choice. Have you seen the price of energy? There’s no need to be extinguishing a free heat source.

Completely agree. Most people have a hose surely? And if they don’t they can ask a neighbour.

I think lockdown proved we don't need to educate state school children at all. Chimney sweeping is an honorable trade for such urchins

QueenOfThorns · 01/10/2022 08:27

Dentists for me. I think one per major city would be sufficient. For emergencies and the like.

If it was really an emergency, you’d be prepared to travel though. Weed out the time wasters by having one in every city, but your “catchment” is the next city. Simple change, so much waste removed.

Orangesandlemons77 · 01/10/2022 09:27

Carer's allowance could probably be cut. After all, it's just a choice to look after a disabled child 24/7...surely they can look after themselves really anyway

MissyB1 · 01/10/2022 08:27

No need for surgeons at all, surely with you tube we could teach people to operate on themselves at home?

This is a ridiculous comment.

Teach the spouses how to do it, you can't always reach where you need to in order to operate.

And if you don't have someone over 18 living with you, ask your neighbour.

the80sweregreat · 01/10/2022 09:29

Getting shot of the triple lock or reducing pension payments might persuade a few people that they don't care about them at all
However, I do know a few people who haven't paid in for a private pension at all ( but always worked ) so they might find a shock if this is reduced over time.
Four day week for schools ? Would save on the energy bills !

Well they can when the hose pipe bans have been lifted. Until then, not so much.

basilmint · 01/10/2022 09:31

Limit the expense claims of MPs- no second home allowance for example, just provide a hotel space in London if needed when the House sits.

I genuinely dont understand why they can't have purpose built accommodation where they all stay when they can't travel back to their constituency.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 01/10/2022 09:31

I don't really know why we bother with public services at all tbh. Everyone should pay for what they need directly, and if they can't afford it, then they need to work harder.

Get rid of all of them, just keep enough border force officials so that we can send all the immigrants to Rwanda. And maybe a few prisons, or we could bring back the death penalty to save on costs.

FarmerRefuted · 01/10/2022 09:34

Do any areas outside of major cities actually need public transport or mass transit systems? There not actually anything nearby them worth accessing and, if there is, I'm fairly sure they all have horses they could ride about the place instead. If they don't have a horse they can walk, a lovely bracing walk in the country air along roads that are NSL and have no pavement. If they get hit by a car they can just DIY their own medical treatment as outlined by my Honourable Friend above.

No one is going to be able to afford much in the way of food so Food Standards Agency can be made redundant.

Let's launch a new Disability Support Plan designed to enable disabled people to maximise their potential and, y'know, try harder at just not being disabled. Saw a person with "depression" sming? Grass that fucker in, the bankers could use the money wasted on that person's PIP. Noticed your neighbour walking with just one crutch instead of their usual two? Kick it out from under them, they obviously don't need it and the NHS could use that valuable resource instead. Found out your cousin's kid has a neurodevelopment condition? Give her a solid lecture on how bad her parenting must be and recommend the correct way to administer a good hiding to said child.

Why do children need Modern Languages on the curriculum? Everyone speaks English and if they don't then they ought to. Furthermore why do we need English on the curriculum? Everyone already speaks it and if they don't then they ought to. Also is Maths really necessary? You don't need to know how to count to be successful, you could even have a career in government.
