AIBU?
Looks like a junior doctors strike is coming. Reasonable or unreasonable?

Am I being unreasonable?

Reasonable. And many other groups of reasonable people who never thought they would strike will be considering doing just that this winter.
bakewellbride · 30/09/2022 21:19
Reasonable. I think there should also be a paramedic strike.
Quitelikeit · 30/09/2022 21:21
Public services in this country are on their knees
unless you work in them you can’t begin to understand what a joke and farce the services are becoming
pointythings · 30/09/2022 21:22
Fully reasonable. Alongside pretty much every part of the public sector considering strike action. This government is a disgrace.
Thedogscollar · 30/09/2022 21:25
100% support my colleagues. Nurses and midwives being balloted also.
This time enough really is enough 😡
Gassylady · 30/09/2022 21:27
Completely reasonable. Pay does not reflect their responsibilities, long working hours with horrible rota patterns and massive student debts. Junior doctors are often in their late twenties or thirties with the same family commitments as everyone else and often have to travel long distances to required hospital placements with extra costs that that entails.
PeppaPigOinkOinkOink · 30/09/2022 21:28
Completely reasonable. Nurses next, I'll be voting to strike as a nurse. The conditions we are all working in, as health care professionals, is atrocious.
Erica56 · 30/09/2022 21:33
Full on strike.
I fully support them. Enough is enough
Northernlurker · 30/09/2022 21:34
Well I work in the nhs and I don't think it's reasonable. Yes they are underpaid but if they aren't at work people are going to die. This is not 6 years ago, we can't absorb this safely. It's a total nightmare.
BeetyAxe · 30/09/2022 21:34
Absolutely they should strike. We need doctors and nurses to be well rested and have enough income to reduce stress elsewhere in their lives- I.e. through hiring cleaners or nannies etc, so that they will a) stay working in the NHS and b) have the energy and headspace to dedicate to their jobs. This will benefit all of us.

Then they should be paid better, shouldn't they?
The govt can avoid strike action.
BeetyAxe · 30/09/2022 21:35
@Northernlurker people are dying anyway, and will continue to do so unless there is more incentive for intelligent people to join the NHS as doctors. Otherwise they will take their abilities and work somewhere more lucrative and less stressful.
CordeliaNaismithVorkosigan · 30/09/2022 21:36
Reasonable. The pay is so out of whack with the responsibility that it’s laughable.
RoseAndRose · 30/09/2022 21:37
Lets hope it doesn't coincide with a covid spike or a new variant
girlmom21 · 30/09/2022 21:38
Reasonable. Doctors work bloody hard and they deserve to be treated properly
2pinkginsplease · 30/09/2022 21:38
Totally support them, having just had a relative in hospital very unwell these doctors and junior doctors work their arses off. Junior doctors are over worked and underpaid and unless something is done the NHS are going to have a huge shortage of doctors to treat patients. This needs sorted to encourage more people into this profession,
Unescorted · 30/09/2022 21:40
Totally reasonable. Everyone has the right to withhold their labour.
