Totally with them!

Reasonable. I think there should also be a paramedic strike.

Agree

Coralolive · 30/09/2022 22:36

They have no choice. No one’s listening to them and so I hope they do. I hope it leads to improved working conditions and patient safety.

Prescottdanni123 · 30/09/2022 22:51

On the fence. I support them and think they deserve a higher wage. But people are suffering due to underfunded, short staffed hospitals without people going on strike.

As for paramedics going on strike. I really hope this doesn't happen. When I phoned for an ambulance for a school student a few months ago I was told that waiting times were up to 7 hours. Again, that was without people striking. I dread to think how many people would die if this happened.

I've just heard that there are train strikes happening on the day of the marathon. It will be the charities that are hardest hit the most by this. Plus people who will struggle to get to hospital appointments as a result.

I have upmost sympathy for people in poorly paid jobs (I'm actually in one myaelf) but I don't think striking is the right way to go. It is innocent people who seem to suffer the most as a result not the people that they are striking against.

jocktamsonsbairn · 30/09/2022 23:02

Support them, support any other profession who will sacrifice a day/multiple days of pay to get what is their legal right - fair pay. Don't begrudge doctors, teachers, train drivers etc taking this step, it's done through desperation. Blame the tories and their money grabbing chums who profiteered from government decisions and secret deals.

TooBored1 · 30/09/2022 23:11

Totally reasonable.

ilovesooty · 30/09/2022 23:53

Absolutely in support.

StillMedusa · 01/10/2022 00:02

Totally reasonable.
My dd1 is a junior doctor. When she worked out the hours she actually works v pay... she's barely getting minimum wage. Plus she has to pay £££ for exams, indemnities etc.. every bit of study (essential and when the hell is she supposed to fit that in) costs a lot.
She needs to learn to drive because of her hours..but can't afford it or fit it in (couldn't learn earlier due to some seizures) Works round the clock, is responsible for actual human lives and yet the pay and conditions are appalling.

And it's why doctors are leaving to go abroad.

The NHS is on its knees but unless pay and conditions improve there won't be any doctors left! Watching how hard my girl has worked and how poorly she and her fellow doctors are treated... hell yes they should strike!

howshouldibehave · 01/10/2022 00:05

Absolutely. I will be supporting any nurse and teacher strikes as well.

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 01/10/2022 00:05

They of all people are not being unreasonable. Low to middle wages (sub 100k) have been depressed across the board for decades and a general strike is likely unless serious systemic change (not just more handouts for the already rich) happens.

KalvinPhillipsBoots · 01/10/2022 00:06

Perfectly reasonable, wish the RCN would join them.

Absolutely agree

jetadore · 01/10/2022 00:11

Reasonable. Fuck the Tories.

FruitToast · 01/10/2022 00:14

Totally reasonable. The pay for the responsibility and work load is an absolute joke. I was shocked when some of my doctor friends told me their salary. It's extremely low without doing quite a bit of on call. Something's not right when some of the non-clinical adminstrative roles in my department are earning more than a qualified doctor making life and death decisions about patient care.

Illybidol · 01/10/2022 00:22

There are so many areas of the public sector and civil service that are under paid . They should all strike. Social security, prison service, social workers, council workers.

jamimmi · 01/10/2022 00:30

You say all public sector should strike . I think they will. 34years in the NHS as an AHP. Not militant at all but just voted to strike. It's not just the jnr docs but all Nurses and most of the AHP's too who are preparing for strike action. The comment form our new pm that public spending needs to be cut makes me feel ill. We've had 12 year of austerity we can't do any more

rainingsnoring · 01/10/2022 00:34

I support them fully and other allied HCP who vote to strike.

Illybidol · 01/10/2022 00:35

Yep - the tide is turning. Revolution is in the air. Enough is enough

lannistunut · 01/10/2022 00:37

I'm worried about a strike but I still support it, what other option is there when the government won't listen to reason?

We (the nation) can't just keep treating people (both NHS staff and patients) like crap.

BelleMarionette · 01/10/2022 01:30

As a junior doctor is is absolutely shit. The pay is abysmal, and has been eroded by inflation. There is zero respect, and the job required expensive childcare due to the antisocial hours.

The low pay in the UK means we are heamorrhaging doctors, as they either leave the profession or go abroad. Given the cost of training doctors, underpaying is a false economy.

Namenic · 01/10/2022 01:41

Reasonable. In a way, at least the strikes raise the profile of a huge problem - which is retention of experienced staff. If they just leave to work in Aus or pharma or whatever - it is easier for govt to gloss over.

slo · 01/10/2022 01:43

I support striking workers.

Dancinginthebasement91 · 01/10/2022 01:46

Reasonable, and clearly the government agree or they would resolve the issues

FatMog · 01/10/2022 02:05

Reasonable.

Have you read This Is Going To Hurt by Adam Kay?
