Well I work in the nhs and I don't think it's reasonable. Yes they are underpaid but if they aren't at work people are going to die. This is not 6 years ago, we can't absorb this safely. It's a total nightmare.

So they should do nothing? If people die, blame the long-term lack of investment in the NHS, and profiteering by Tory pals. NHS workers were the governments heroes two years ago - now they aren't worth anything to them. People will die of cold, of lack of food, and all the other things that the Tories are inflicting on the workers of his country - why should anyone agree to add lack of income to the list?

Lcb123 · 30/09/2022 21:46

Support them 100%. Underpaid, undervalued, have to deal with so much

Are you happy to be one of the dead?

Easy to be glib with other people's loves

I agree

It's been clear for a long time that the Tories don't care if people die. Its not a threat that will work with this government, pay us more or people will die.

Rather than striking I'd rather see doctors, nurses, police etc doing everything they can to get the Tories out of power. Marches, protests, disruptive things, be creative. But not things that will risk people's lives.

Wowzel · 30/09/2022 21:58

Totally reasonable and I will vote to strike in the nurses strike too.

MinnyMous · 30/09/2022 22:00

Completely reasonable. They work extremely hard.

Pippa12 · 30/09/2022 22:00

Absolutely agree with them, as a nurse I stand by all junior doctors that wish to strike.

I imagine nurses and senior doctors/consultants will pick up the short fall in emergency care were needed to support the strike safely, but all other care will be affected.

Not ideal but neither are the conditions these highly trained and dedicated professionals are working in… or the pay check for that matter!

Nurses next I imagine, then the paramedics… enough is enough!

Sciurus83 · 30/09/2022 22:01

Full support

Shortkiwi · 30/09/2022 22:02

Totally reasonable. My daughter has been qualified for just over a year. The job is beyond stressful in terms of responsibility and being pulled in all directions when on shifts on call for general medicine e.g. getting bleeped constantly by all different departments who are understaffed and stressed too. The pay is truly shocking - think it worked out at about £13/14 p.h last year and it’s not much improved this year. This, after all the high entry requirements and 5 yr training, difficult exams etc. The respect has gone for junior doctors, they are treated badly and the demands are untenable. She is already thinking of going to work abroad next year after 2 years in the job and so are many of her colleagues at her level.

Luredbyapomegranate · 30/09/2022 22:03

Reasonable and needs sorting or we’ll have no doctors left.

Goldyfishy · 30/09/2022 22:03

Reasonable

TheWhalrus · 30/09/2022 22:06

Reasonable, but at the same time I wish it hadn't come to this. For sure, these people are dramatically underpaid for the important work they do; it's really sad that they feel that this is really the only option available.

If someone I know died because of this, then maybe i'd feel differently.

Erica56 · 30/09/2022 22:11

I’m sure they didn’t want it to come to this either but looks like they asked to negotiate with the government first. Gave them a reasonable amount of time to reply and got no response.

I support them

Along with any other nursing or AHP action

So now they have to force a reply 🤷‍♀️

QueefofSheena · 30/09/2022 22:13

You haven’t made your voting preferences clear but they are totally not unreasonable

Erica56 · 30/09/2022 22:13

Yep. This government are shocking.

I supported the last, I support another.

BadPaintDay · 30/09/2022 22:15

What worries me is what happens if these payrises are agreed ... I am aware of at least 3 hospital trusts in our region who currently do not have the funds to pay the wage bill in February, let alone an increased on in April. This will result in severe cuts to services as it is no longer possible to pay for them.

That's not to say I think anyone should be prevented from striking to seek better conditions but its all pointless if government are not going to pay for it as it will just result in job losses.

user1471453601 · 30/09/2022 22:17

@FuckeryOmbudsman yes indeed, I still support the junior doctors (and any other hcp who chooses to go on strike) despite the fact that without their help, I will die. Why should they and their families suffer? Is my death worse than their children going cold or hungry?

I know who is to blame for this clusterfuck, and it sure as hell isn't the health care workers, or the barristers or the rail workers or the postal workers ect. It's this fucking awful government.

HMSSophia · 30/09/2022 22:21

Strike away. It's an appalling shitshow

This is the whole point of striking. It should be disruptive.
consultants will need to cover the essential services, and everything else cancelled /postponed.
I get it. I’m waiting for surgery on my knee. I will be unhappy if it’s postponed (again), but it will only get worse in ALL public services otherwise.
I work in education, and it’s hellish. We’re in the process of being ballotted, and I am almost certain we will be striking soon.

GreenGreenArse · 30/09/2022 22:24

Junior doctors are totally reasonable to strike. Your AIBU is totally U though because I have no idea how we’re being asked to vote in your poll

Alexisrose16 · 30/09/2022 22:24

Yes it’s completely reasonable. Unless you know a Dr or are one then there is such little understanding. You have to pay for your own exams which can cost thousands a year. You are sometimes expected to sit these exams after working all night. You can never swap shifts because there is nobody to swap with, you go hours without eating or drinking. You can be placed anywhere in the country so it’s impossible to settle down unless you want a long commute and you never have the time to do the job you love properly because you start on a sinking ship. We need more Dr’s to want to stay in this country. It’s not about the pay, it’s about doing what is best for patients and safely because patients are dying. They will continue to die unless something changes.

MarigoldPetals · 30/09/2022 22:25

Reasonable. As are teachers.
