AIBU to not have the 4th covid jab ?

I've had all my covid vaccines up to date. I also had covid a few months ago.. I think I can get the next vaccine too if I want it. I was a bit surprised to be invited again..

Covid was just like a cold for me.

I'm 35, have MS ( not on any medication and I don't really have any symptoms apart from fatigue ). So no disability from it, no trouble walking or anything in my body- except fatigue.

I don't really want to have another vaccine. Is that unreasonable ?

I've heard Moderna, but not 100% sure.

They are moderna bivalent but Pfizer has now put out it’s bivalent so they will be offering that as well in some areas

I had mine booked for this weekend and then I bloody got Covid.

It's hideous, even though I am supposedly better I feel exhausted and keep fainting everywhere.

Really really wish it could have waited until after the jab, I feel so miserable.

That sounds pretty awful, I hope you feel better soon!

I wouldn’t purely based on the fact that I have now been diagnosed with a rare neurological condition that 3 seperate consultants have put down to the covid jags. And low and behold when you Research it it’s becoming quite a common connection in people having had the jag. I was all for it until then but if it was the jag it’s ruined my quality of life significantly so I vote no

Which condition is that?

@Menora

I wonder if there's any point in holding out for the Pfizer one as I was 'ok' with their previous one?

do you have a preference?

GrimmTales · 29/09/2022 21:55

Those I know who have had Covid recently, all having had it before, are much more sick this time round. I have my booster appointment for early October. I’m early 50s.

Ah me too (not the fainting bit).

I was having the vaccination on Saturday but have had to postpone until end of Oct.
I feel absolutely terrible with Covid so the idea that it would be worse without a vaccination is worrying.

My manager hasn't been vaccinated and has had Covid twice, very badly. Once hospitalised and second time very nearly.

@clovid Do you know what, I have no idea what I had

I am surprised at myself for not asking now. Although I rushed in, rushed out with literally 5 mins to spare, tbh

It'll turn up on your app before too long!

FourChimneys · 29/09/2022 21:57

My adult DC who is very healthy sailed through Covid the first time but was very poorly the second time and took several weeks to recover. It's a fallacy that it is better the second time.

I'm booked in for my 5th jab next week (immunocompromised) and am getting the flu jab at the same time.

I'm not getting it, last one gave me Shingles

That's not even possible.

To be fair, do we ever ask which flu jab we have ? I suspect at some point, people will also just stop asking which covid jab they're having. So you're ahead of the curve I think !

The message out is that having different vaccines is useful to stimulate immune response but I don’t know if this is scientifically correct... but it’s the stock answer to the question 🤣
They are both mRNA

I believe they may have more moderna in stock than Pfizer at the moment and Pfizer is a PTA with mixing up so some sites might prefer not to use it, so it might not be that accessible

I had all Pfizer’s before then a moderna which wiped the floor with me!

Anotherguy · 29/09/2022 22:01

Anyone not taking the vaccine is extremely arrogant, medical advice is to have it, by ignoring that you are basically saying you know better than the medical profession, absolute arrogance

you don’t get to choose
the flu jab is tailored to your age group and it’s configured to the strains they predict will be more prevalent. If you got an over 65 flu jab you would be fine but if an over got an under they would be less well covered

I’m pregnant and just had my booster. Moderna one, no side effects other than a sore arm.

I'm treating it like the yearly flu jab I get.

UrsulaPandress · 29/09/2022 22:05

Oh fuck off with your ‘arrogance’ remark.

We all face free choice. I’ve managed to avoid Covid despite being out and about in my volunteering role. The way the Moderna vaccine affected me has given me serious reservations.

And the way the world is currently being run I’m happy to make my own decisions.

Lambembert · 29/09/2022 22:05

I'm a healthy 44 year old, suffered (fairly rough) with covid once (that I know of). I had the first 3 vaccinations but won't be having any more. I don't have/never had flu vaccinations, and don't feel the need, and now feel the same about covid jabs. Of course your choice though OP.

I know several medical professionals who aren't having it 🤷

I was swayed to Moderna, until your last comment!

Ahh go and trot on!!

No, I’m not having my fourth. Had enough now.

Srx1 · 29/09/2022 22:11

I'm 34 weeks pregnant and I don't know if I should get it.
The day after my very first dose last year I got a random period. The second dose and booster all was good. But now I'm worried about any potential reactions to this updated, moderna vaccine . I also don't want to get covid.

DontTrustThisPoster · 29/09/2022 22:11

I didn’t even have the first one, so certainly won’t be having a 4th 😂

passport123 · 29/09/2022 22:13

It's your choice. I think that choosing to increase your risk of getting covid (this would be your first vaccination against the current strain as none of the others have been formulated against Omicron) is an amazingly stupid decision for someone with MS who could do very badly on ITU. But as a GP I've stopped trying to persuade people now. Some people can weigh up risks and benefits and some just can't/won't/don't want to.

As long as you accept the risks and consequences of your decision, which could include death or long-term disability worse than now, and you understand that with the state of the NHS, if you get covid and need HDU or ITU care there might not be a bed for you, it's your call.

exLtEveDallas · 29/09/2022 22:14

Had my booster on Monday. No idea what it was, first 3 jabs were AZ.

No side effects other than a sore arm directly at the injection site and a dull ache the next day.

I’ve also not had Covid. DD had it in July and felt terrible, but I think that was because she was already man-down with tonsillitis. DH caught it off her but had no symptoms at all. I had a snotty nose at the same time, but never tested positive.

I’ll have whatever they suggest, whatever they'll give me, Covid and otherwise. I trust our researchers and scientists, but understand why others don’t feel the same way.
