AIBU to not have the 4th covid jab ?

clovid · 29/09/2022 21:04

I've had all my covid vaccines up to date. I also had covid a few months ago.. I think I can get the next vaccine too if I want it. I was a bit surprised to be invited again..

Covid was just like a cold for me.

I'm 35, have MS ( not on any medication and I don't really have any symptoms apart from fatigue ). So no disability from it, no trouble walking or anything in my body- except fatigue.

I don't really want to have another vaccine. Is that unreasonable ?

I always thought the medical advice for pregnant women was to take the vaccine? Or has that changed?

I saw a link on another vaccine thread that advice had changed but can't find it now. Can anyone help?

Also would like to know why the midwife advised against it? I've already had a booster when I was 14 weeks pregnant and being told to get another (I'm 31 weeks now) but I'm reluctant.

WTF99 · 29/09/2022 23:16

Have you considered that your mild experience of covid might be partly because you've had 3 doses of vaccine?
I've just booked my 5th dose. I'm a HCP and also have vulnerabilities.

colouringindoors · 29/09/2022 23:17

People saying they've had a bad reaction to a vaccine, so theyrenot geting the next one... have you considered how very, very bad your reaction may have been if you'd actually Had Covid?!

Husband of a friend of mine, late 30s very fit and healthy, no health conditions, had been double- vaccinated when caught Covid. Severely ill. GP said without vaccination he would almost certainly have been on a respirator in hospital at least.

If you've had it mildly. Great. Lucky.

I'm pregnant and my midwife advised against it.

Appalling advice

MrsMorrisey · 29/09/2022 23:22

Mumsnet is so interesting. One year ago today I lost my job as a nurse because I did not get vaccinated against Covid. I'm in Australia.
There were loads of us who were publicly criticised and shamed for making our choice.
We are still banned from working. Even though there is mass shortage.
If I had any opinion at all on here I was treated the same and then my posts deleted anyway.
Now people are realising that these vaccines aren't actually that good.

Tha · 29/09/2022 23:23

Anotherguy · 29/09/2022 22:01

Anyone not taking the vaccine is extremely arrogant, medical advice is to have it, by ignoring that you are basically saying you know better than the medical profession, absolute arrogance

Oh behave yourself. Medical professionals used to cover us in leeches, they're not all-knowing gods.

I didn't take it because I didn't see a need for it. Same as I wouldn't walk around wearing a suit that's 99% effective at preventing death if I'm struck by lightning, because I don't feel like I'm at risk of being struck by lightning. Shite analogy since the vaccine isn't anywhere close to 99% effective but there you go. Is that arrogance or making common sense decisions about MY OWN BODY?

People who are actually at risk should crack on, and maybe if more people thought that way we wouldn't see pensioners with walking sticks stood queuing in shopping centres for hours, despite having appointments, to get them!

Luredbyapomegranate · 29/09/2022 23:31

Up to you. I don’t know why you wouldn’t though?

CherryRipe1 · 29/09/2022 23:35

Had Covid/booster/Covid again all within the space of 2 months & autoimmune disease went haywire. Awful. Very wary of getting 4th jab now.

JanglyBeads · 29/09/2022 23:40

The boosters are with the new bivalent vaccine which covers two different main variants.

You might wish to factor into your decision that major hospitals are starting to cancel all elective surgery again and they're predicting a bad flu wave this winter so if you were to get I'll proper care may not be available for you.

If a new more virulent variant comes along (one already has actually), your second/third/fourth round of Covid May we'll be worse than the previous experience(s).

Especially if you haven't had a recent vaccine.

SpidersAreShitheads · 29/09/2022 23:48

I've had my invite for my 4th booster - not had it yet, but I will.

No issues with people choosing differently to me, but some of the logic just doesn't make sense.

Don't get vaccinated/booster because we all "need to get on with life" - there are plenty of other conditions which we vaccinate against, including flu jabs annually. Why is it OK for those conditions but not OK for COVID? A virus which can and does kill people. You can get on with life and still have a vaccination?

Don't get vaccinated/booster because you "had it mild" - that's great, but you could get it again and be severely ill in hospital? Or what about the longer term effects of Long COVID which are only just being discovered? They can affect people who only had mild symptoms but the Long Covid symptoms can be pretty devastating ie/ damage to heart/lungs/brains/organs. Do you not believe that Long Covid is a thing? Or are you just not bothered about long term complications?

As I say, suit yourself whether you want the vaccination or not. Your choice. I don't really care. I just don't understand the flawed logic that some people trot out.

greyinganddecaying · 29/09/2022 23:49

I feel the same as you @clovid - I've been offered the booster, have had the other 3, had covid twice (second time milder than the first) over 6 months ago.

I don't want this latest one, but I'm struggling to explain why. I'll have my flu jab, but very reluctant to have the booster.

washingbasketqueen · 29/09/2022 23:53

I'm not taking it either (if offered to me). I would only take it if it was a requirement for travel again.

rickandmorts · 29/09/2022 23:55

Okay thank you. I found this screenshot on an article but not sure on its validity. Looks like a legit screen grab but can't find it on any gov websites

pointythings · 29/09/2022 21:23

It's up to you. I'm 54, had Covid in late July and hell yeah am I having my booster.

Im exactly the same. Dodge it until July and it was horrific. I had my 4th jab this morning after a night shift, its a no brainer for me.

Felixfeather223 · 29/09/2022 23:58

ProbAmU · 29/09/2022 22:05

I know several medical professionals who aren't having it 🤷

@ProbAmU did they say they won’t? Are any of them doctors?

Mamai90 · 29/09/2022 23:59

I'll be having my 4th one when offered. Felt awful after the first AZ one, 2nd one was fine and Pfizer was fine too. I don't want covid because I have a baby and I'm tired enough as it is without throwing covid exhaustion into the mix. Each to their own though.

Spinninggyro · 30/09/2022 00:01

I had my 4th one 2 weeks ago. It was Moderna and included protection against the omicron variant. I had the same reaction to all 4 vaccinations. Sore arm for a day and a bit off colour for a few days. I haven’t had Covid

FangsForTheMemory · 30/09/2022 00:01

Wild horses wouldn’t stop me from having every COVID booster offered to me.

MrsFezziwig · 30/09/2022 00:02

How I’ve missed these threads! Proper nostalgic, even down to people being called sheep, and random illnesses being attributed to the vaccine.

I had my booster last week (Moderna bivalent). I’m in my late sixties so at slightly increased risk of just about everything. Felt a bit rubbish for 24 hours then fine. Don’t really care whether other people have it or not, I thought it was only being offered to the over-50s anyway so half the people on this thread won’t be offered it anyway.

It does make me sad that polio and measles which were both eradicated in the UK are now making a comeback.

LeakyTapTap · 30/09/2022 00:03

I had to go to A&E after mine with chest pain. I won't be having another.

EmeraldShamrock1 · 30/09/2022 00:04

No I wouldn't be bothered.

YorkshireYarns · 30/09/2022 00:04

I’m surprised you had the antiviral treatment if you aren’t on any immunosuppressive meds for your MS. I thought they were the trigger for the antivirals not MS itself.

It’s unusual not to be on treatment for MS itself these days - I assumed everyone was offered it, and you clearly aren’t completely anti medication if your had the other covid vaccs?

i think lots of people will be wary of the 4th vaccine .

Flangelasashes · 30/09/2022 00:04

Had no vaccines, had Covid, got through it with little interruption. No intention of getting vaccinated either.

NicolaSixSix · 30/09/2022 00:07

SwordToFlamethrower · 29/09/2022 22:28

I'm pregnant and my midwife advised against it.

Your midwife is wrong/bringing personal views into discussions with you, which is unethical.
Advice from NHS now is that pregnant women should have the vaccine.

www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/pregnancy-breastfeeding-fertility-and-coronavirus-covid-19-vaccination/

midwife who I haD my booking appointment with was an anti vaxxer and went on and on about how she hadn’t had the vaccine. Immediate complaint, and they agreed with me.
