To find bananas repulsive?!

Bananabread157 · 28/09/2022 15:33

Just to be clear, I love the taste of bananas and absolutely love anything banana flavoured or banana based.

but an actual banana? No way. Love the taste. Cannot STAND the texture- it physically repulses me and I can’t even explain why!

anyone else?

Me! I hate the texture and the taste. I find bananas to be absolutely disgusting, they make me gag and have done since I was a child. I am very sensitive to textures in food though.

I quite like banana bread, but otherwise, I tend to avoid it as much as possible.

DickDarstedly · 28/09/2022 15:43

I am with you. I can't stand the sound of people eating them either, there's a kind of pulpy, mushy sound like an animal eating. When I was a child I remember being repulsed by people in my family eating them. I thought they sounded like monkeys.

I don't mind the taste but I eat them out of duty as they are a true whole food and give the best energy boost that you'd only usually get out of bread, cakes etc.

KimberleyClark · 28/09/2022 15:44

I like the taste of fresh banana but the smell of rotting or overripe bananas makes me gag.

RolyPolyLittleBatFacedGirl1 · 28/09/2022 15:45

I’m practically phobic of bananas. Cannot bear to be around them. People think nothing of just whacking one out of their bag and eating it wherever and I hate getting ambushed by someone noshing one on the bloody bus or at the desk next to me at work.

Disgusting things. If I ever become PM I’m implementing a countrywide ban.

bloodywhitecat · 28/09/2022 15:45

For a minute there I thought my DD had found her way to MN. She hates banana and all things banana related with a passion. She even struggles to peel one.

Plumbear2 · 28/09/2022 15:45

I understand what you mean. I'm fine with Bananas but eggs make me gag, even when someone else eats them.

LoobyDop · 28/09/2022 15:47

Everything about them is disgusting- smell, taste, texture. There’s nothing worse than someone near you at work eating one and then leaving the skin sitting around for ages getting progressively stinkier. Should be a hanging offence.

minticecreamisjustok · 28/09/2022 15:47

Sometimes I can eat them when just ripened, can't stand the smell, taste or look of over ripe bananas. When I was pregnant I had to avoid the bananas in the supermarket, they were too strong and made me heave.

Iamclearlyamug · 28/09/2022 15:49

I've found my people 😍 I hate bananas! The smell, the taste, the texture, everything!! BLEURGHHHH

I'm the exact opposite, I love bananas but can't stand banana flavoured things, so glad when the lockdown ended and I wasn't presented with loads of banana bread and as for banofee pie, vomit en croute would be a better name!

Bluevelvetsofa · 28/09/2022 15:55

Loathsome fruit.

errnerrcallnernnernnern · 28/09/2022 15:58

It sounds like you have bananaphobia.

Crunchymum · 28/09/2022 15:58

Cannot abide in any way, shape or form. Including in cake (which I ain't that fussy about)

Every few years I have a bit of one to see if my tastes have matured / developed. They never have.

DC2 and DC3 love them, DC1 will suffer them.

knittingaddict · 28/09/2022 16:07

Bananas are vile. I will pretty much eat anything, but bananas are beyond me, mostly due to the texture. It was a nice surprise when I realised my husband hated them too, as well as pomegranites.

I can't remember any traumatic experiences with bananas, but the pomegranite thing was due to a school cruise, rough seas and eating my first (and only) pomegranite.

knittingaddict · 28/09/2022 16:08

I used to make the most amazing banana loaf and that was delicious, so I don't think the flavour is an issue. Mind you, cake makes most things edible.

Redhound · 28/09/2022 16:16

Horrible things. Don't even smell like food..

WagathaChristieMystery · 28/09/2022 16:17

I think they’re okay. I used to really dislike them when I was a kid (the fruit itself and anything banana-flavoured).

I now quite like stuff like banana bread though, and am growing to like bananas as well, although they’re far from being my favourite fruit! I’m sort of forcing myself a little to like them, as it’s an easy way to up my fibre intake 😭

Same reasons for disliking them as others have mentioned - the texture is strange, not a huge fan of the taste (wish they were juicy, rather than being stodgy) and just don’t find them that interesting.

Funny, I feel this exact same way about apples. The crunch!! 😫 DH thinks it's hilarious
.
Love an apple pie though!

gatehouseoffleet · 28/09/2022 16:19

I hate bananas too - both texture and taste. I don't even like handling them without their skins on, eg recently I was cutting one up to put on DH's cereal just after he'd had an operation. Yuck.

I wish I did like them as they are really good for you.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 28/09/2022 16:19

So what, you guys don't have banana sandwiches??!!

This is mad.

I love bananas and banana flavoured things, but banana flavoured things don't taste like banana.

gatehouseoffleet · 28/09/2022 16:22

I know a jam and banana sandwich is so easy. But no.

BigWoollyJumpers · 28/09/2022 16:22

They make me retch! Bleuch. I can't even stand the smell, if DH eats one, I send him outside. Poor DH 😂

MiseryWIthAStent · 28/09/2022 16:23

Banana squelch noises are 🤢

Dragonfly909 · 28/09/2022 16:25

I have never really liked bananas, would maybe eat one very occasionally, but I am currently pregnant and happily eating one for breakfast almost daily! Must have something I need in them...

Bananabread157 · 28/09/2022 16:25

It’s weird because I seriously love the flavour of bananas. I would actively choose it over other flavours!

it’s just the soft mushy texture that gives me the ick! Disgusting.

like other posters, I try to make myself eat them because they’re so healthy!
