Is Liz Truss hiding?

I totally appreciate there's a lot of work to do behind the scenes, but I haven't seen or heard anything of Liz Truss in the news the last few days - please correct me if I'm wrong, as I'm interested in what else she's working on/looking into. At least we'd have had Boris blustering his way through the current economical problem in front of the camera.

Pippa Crerar tweeted this evening that Truss will be all over the radio & TV doing interviews tomorrow. Be careful what U wish for.

Bottom line, there is nothing whatever she and KK can say that will make this hellish mess any better (well, we can hope for "I resign", but that won't happen yet)

I just hope the interviewers eat her liver, ala Frost/Nixon. They'll look like fools if they don't.

Celticandco · 28/09/2022 23:19

Surely there has to be a GA? We can't continue like this?

WagathaChristieMystery · 28/09/2022 23:24

Who knows what’s going to happen in the next few months. Nothing would surprise me anymore tbh.

5 minute slots on regional news. I'm sure the journalists are excellent but not exactly likely to get much information or reaction in such a brief period. Wonder if they have to submit questions.

"Liz Truss is breaking her silence. 📢

In the morning she’ll do a round of 8 local BBC radio stations w/ each getting 5 min interview.

Then she’ll do traditional pre-conference sit downs w/ regional TV.

Will be a tough gig. Some of these journos are best in business."

Much as I’d like a general anaesthetic to get through the next couple of years of Tory clusterfuck I think it’s unlikely to be an option 😏

GlassDeli · 28/09/2022 23:40

Sunak would have done a better job, but he is brown.

Even though the four candidates who are brown or black didn't win the PM leadership, many Tory members might have voted for them if they'd reached the final two. In the final round, Sunak got 42.6% of the vote, which is a decent proportion even though Truss won. And tbh I don't see a lot of BAME representation at the top of the other parties.

She's in a pork coma, having eaten five pepperamis in a row

😂

Nat6999 · 29/09/2022 00:06

She is doing a 5 minute interview on 8 selected BBC radio stations tomorrow. Most likely pre recorded so no questions can be asked.

Taking tips from the previous moron in charge. She'll pop up in Kyiv which a photo op for Instagram shortly.
Cowards the lot of them.

Very likely.

Not going to cut it though, just too dire this time. I often think the British are nearly as good as the Russians at absorbing centuries of crap and trudging on, but the last few days have been a whole other level of venal incompetence and assault on the intelligence.

adviceatthislatestage · 29/09/2022 09:02

Listened to every interview

Not a bloody clue and thinks mentioning energy support package every few minutes gets her a free pass.

She also seems to be laughing/smirking when responding to questions

waffless · 29/09/2022 09:50

Should they scrap the energy support package? You are so clue up. Tell me what it needs to be done?

Eyesopenwideawake · 29/09/2022 10:17

The Guardian has just down a round up of the Twitter reactions to the media interviews. Universally damning.

SleeplessInEngland · 29/09/2022 10:23

5 times on different stations this morning Truss implied the 2.5k energy cap was a ceiling and not an average. A lot of people who took that at face value are in for a nasty surprise.

ifonly4 · 29/09/2022 10:36

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst the signatures on that petition are certainly going up!

What needs to be done is someone hitting her with an inflatable mallet every time she "misspeaks" that "Nobody will pay more than £2500 for energy bills".

petition.parliament.uk/petitions/619781

The government have responded to this petition. But looks like that was before Truss and KK caused a crisis after the dodgy mini-budget on 23rd September.

This response was given on 20 September 2022
“The UK is a Parliamentary democracy and the Conservative Party remains the majority party. The Prime Minister has pledged to ensure opportunity and prosperity for all people and future generations.”

Long version:
“The United Kingdom is a Parliamentary democracy, not a Presidential one. Following the general election of December 2019, Members of Parliament of the governing party (the Conservative Party) were elected, such that there is a majority in the House of Commons. This remains the case. A change in the leader of the governing party does not trigger a general election – this has been the case under governments of successive political colours.
The Dissolution and Calling of Parliament Act 2022 provides that Parliament is automatically dissolved five years after it first meets (unless it is dissolved sooner), otherwise the timing is a matter of discretion for the incumbent Prime Minister (subject to re-established constitutional conventions).
In her speech of 6 September 2022, the new Prime Minister set out three early priorities: to grow Britain’s economy, deal with the energy crisis caused by Putin’s war, and putting the national health service on a firm footing. The Prime Minister is determined to address the challenges the country faces and ensure opportunity and prosperity for all people and future generations.
Cabinet Office”

I'm finding myself strangely sexually attracted to Truss which is odd as I find her politics repulsive.
