Do you treat yourself with a massage?

The last couple of times I’ve had a massage (in the last couple of years not regularly!) I’ve really enjoyed it and I’m thinking perhaps I should treat myself more often. Is it a bit ott to have a massage once a month for example?! I think there are known to be benefits aren’t there?

If I could afford it, I would be having one every week!

cherrytreelanecherry · 26/09/2022 20:04

If I had the money then I definitely would.

ShinyPikachu · 26/09/2022 20:10

I used to go monthly as it helps me a lot with chronic pain. We've had to cut back on a few things recently so it's one thing I've had to cut back on because of the cost but I'd say once a month isn't that unusual really. At one point I could have done with going every couple of weeks with how bad my muscles were feeling. The more active you are the better it is to go regularly too.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 26/09/2022 20:11

Yes I do. It's a luxury I know but I can afford it and I do suffer from lots of knots and sore muscles, so if it helps, why not?

EllietheElephanti · 26/09/2022 20:13

Yes I understand it to be beneficial to have regular massages

rickandmorts · 26/09/2022 20:16

If I won the lottery I wouldn't buy a private jet or a yacht, I'd have an in-house masseuse so no you're not unreasonable to treat yourself once a month!

Oliveandbay · 26/09/2022 20:17

Yes I love them. I ask for vouchers for my favourite spa for birthdays/Christmases when family ask so I build up a bank of vouchers and treat myself several times a year. I try and go every 3 months or so.

waterlego · 26/09/2022 20:20

I have a sports massage when I can afford it, which is every 2-3months. My job is very physical and most of it is zero hours contracted, so if I get injured and can’t work, I don’t get paid. Therefore it’s obviously in my best interests to look after my muscles!

I’m not a massive fan of some of the gentler types of massage, and sports massage can be quite uncomfortable/painful, but it is amazing! I’d have one monthly if I could afford it.

Runningintolife · 26/09/2022 20:20

When I was in my twenties, I decided I would always try to find the money for books and a monthly massage as my luxuries (I am cheap in other ways! For instance don't drink). I have never done it though! I must book one. Go for it if you have the spends.

Sceptre86 · 26/09/2022 20:24

I used to go monthly for a massage and facial. I would like to start back up since I have gone back to work after maternity but I need to see how much our bills are over the next few months to see if I can treat myself regularly.

Chattycathydoll · 26/09/2022 20:25

Yes, the first thing I did with my new job was budget things in so I could afford a good gym membership & regular massage. My local beauty place has a special offer subscription package, it is £60 a month but you can choose from a massive range of treatments twice a month (facials, different types of massage, mani pedi.) Every other week I either have a massage or occasionally a facial. It makes me feel so good, it’s definitely worth the cost. I have arthritis and it helps with inflammation but even if it didn’t officially help with anything and was just nice, that’s still a valid reason!!

EachandEveryone · 26/09/2022 20:27

The trouble is finding someone thats really good. At a pound a minute its not a cheap treat and ive had so many duff ones😕

Mybestyear · 26/09/2022 20:27

I have one every fortnight. I’d have one every day if I could! I just go back, neck and shoulders as legs etc just feel like a waste of time (and money) and it’s not too expensive so I can afford it. I don’t get nails, eyelashes or eyebrows done so a massage is my treat.

TowerRavenSeven · 26/09/2022 20:28

I think every other week would be absolutely heaven!

jammywagonwheel · 26/09/2022 20:30

I have sports massage once a month. It really helps with my arthritis and tight muscles. I think having them regularly stops things getting too bad... If I could afford to it, I would go weekly.

limitededitionbarbie · 26/09/2022 20:30

I've never had one ever Blush

Roominmyhouse · 26/09/2022 20:32

I try and have one every 4-6 weeks. I love it and the girl I go to is brilliant. She gets her elbows in there and everything! But I don’t have DC so have the time and money to treat myself. I’d go weekly if I could afford it.

@EachandEveryone - so true. I got one at centre parcs when we were away recently and it was a complete waste of money and I was soooo disappointed as I’d been looking forward to it. It was supposed to be 25 mins but was nearer 15 mins and it was honestly as if she was a friend just rubbing some sun screen on my back. The girl I go to at home is brilliant.

ILoveRumblyRabbit · 26/09/2022 20:33

I love a massage and try to go every few months but like others have had to cut back a little. However, if you have local beauty colleges then consider them as cheaper alternatives. My local one does full massages for around £15.

PatronSaintOfPotplants · 26/09/2022 20:33

If you can afford to, go for it, they're really good for you mentally & physically. Alternatively: learn how to do relaxation massage with a loved one or close friend, and give each other quality massages as often as you like :)

PinkBuffalo · 26/09/2022 20:34

I have a sports massage every 2-3 months cos I work out a lot in gym etc
if I could afford to have it more I would! Always feels much better after!

Froodledo · 26/09/2022 20:34

I used to have one once a week, as a very large chunk of the cost was covered by my private health cover.

Chattycathydoll · 26/09/2022 20:34

limitededitionbarbie · 26/09/2022 20:30

I hadn’t until my (fairly posh) DP treated us to a spa weekend while DD was with her dad. An addiction was born Grin

PatronSaintOfPotplants · 26/09/2022 20:35

You can also volunteer to be a practice body at a massage school, I used to do that. Only issue is you have to contend with the weirder remedial classes too.

C1239 · 26/09/2022 20:40

Oh i think I may start treating myself! The last Indian head massage I had was lovely!
