To think coverless duvets seem like a good idea?

Just go in the washing machine when dirty. Use with a sheet and a bedspread. The thought of no longer wrestling with duvet covers and not having them hanging over the banisters and shower door drying is quite enticing. Anyone got one and would you recommend?

No one has told you you need something different. Op literally asked if anyone has one and would they recommend that brand. No where in the opening post has she said everyone needs to throw out their duvet covers and get coverless ones.

I wasn't replying to the OP - keep up!!! My initial post merely said surely it would be easier to just use a top sheet and wash that instead of constantly washing either duvets or covers. Never mind, this is MN where competitive washing seems to be a thing.

FixTheBeak · 27/09/2022 04:05

Why’s everybody having a go at the poor OP?

OP, we do sheets thin duvet then a blanket (ie heavy bedspread) completely cosy

Plus electric blanket hmmmmmm

Thatboymum · 27/09/2022 05:14

We have them on every bed they are the best purchase ever , the kingsize or single doesn’t fit in the washing machine tho so we wash and tumble dry ours at self serve laundrette takes 20 mins max

Whoopsmahoot · 27/09/2022 05:16

Use them on my teenage sons bed- absolutely brilliant. Dries amazingly fast. Just gone and bought him a warmer one too. He’s a very restless sleeper

PinkSyCo · 27/09/2022 05:51

I have one but it’s a real squeeze to get it into the washing machine and is too heavy to spin properly so takes ages to dry.

Your post reads like you work in marketing or consumer research function and have been tasked with getting people to talk about & ultimately switch to coverless duvets. Including a product link is a warning sign, it usually means you are tracking clicks. Just tell people what to google to find it.

Its impossible that washing & drying a duvet doesnt use more energy than washing and drying a thin cover.we are in an energy crisis, we should not be wasting energy on this and people don't need to piss money away buying more bedding they don't need.

Completely agree. However convenient they are it's a massive waste of energy to wash the entire duvet each time rather than just the cover.

Surely they take ages to dry compared to washing a duvet cover?

They don't, because they are polyester and duvet covers are usually cotton.
We have two single ones for my DD who still occasionally wets the bed.
I wouldn't get a double or king size though - I don't think they'd fit in the washing machine.

Bookaholic73 · 27/09/2022 09:43

I have a 10kg washing machine and my double Coverless duvet fits in there with no problems. If I had a smaller washing machine I’m not sure it would fit.

This thread feels like the company that is selling them has got all of its employees to create usernames and recommend the product...

I agree. And some of them get quite venomous if you write anything other than glorious praise about the wonders of coverless duvets.

SergeiL · 27/09/2022 10:06

Wow - OP is getting a hard time. Some weird folk around today.

We had 1 tog ones during the heatwave and they were brilliant. I am already fed up of making the beds now the normal duvets and covers are back on!

KimberleyClark · 27/09/2022 10:14

I’ve been accused several times of working for the company or in market research. I don’t.

There are threads started all the time on here about various products. Do they all get the same reaction?

Wait what. Tell us more about the magical Bulgarian circle duvet covers.

I've no idea about the magical Bulgarian circle duvet covers, but there is a magical zipper duvet cover. Three sides are zipped or in one case of mine the bottom and all up the middle is zipped. Makes less work of the duvet cover changing but still not as ideal as a cover less duvet.

Which I've tried but sadly unless they make one with completely natural fillings I'm stuffed. The night sweats can be horrendous, and with a microfiber filling and polyester outer it's many times worse. Can confirm though that they are warm.

Knittingnanny2 · 27/09/2022 11:18

My 4.5 tog cover less polyester duvet from M and S dries much quicker indoors or outdoors than my cotton duvet cover which goes on the winter quilt.
It fits in my basic washing machine with a bottom sheet and 2 pillowcases so how does this use more energy?
There are so many assumptions made on mumsnet! I personally wouldn’t comment unless I’d done both versions and could therefore do a fair comparison. Bit like the “ duvet covers are easy to change - but I don’t have arthritis in my hands”.
On a different note, the M and S ones might not suit if you are sweaty as they are polyester - I don’t think I would have found it comfortable during the menopause hot sweaty years.

snowshoehare · 21/11/2022 01:03

Speaking as somebody whose down duvet inner tore open in the washing machine, it doesn't sound like a good idea. I had to sew up an enormous rent while it was still wet, trying to stuff the down back in as I went, and then I had heave it into the dryer. We had a week of strays bits of down migrating round the house.

constantindigestion · 21/11/2022 01:23

I've got a very thin one but I don't live in the uk. I can get it washed dried outside in a day. Don't think I would recommend one for the uk , just because of the faff on if washing and drying it

Roselilly36 · 21/11/2022 07:16

I have a superking summer weight coverless duvet, we bought from fine bedding company, one of the pillowcase that came with it has come apart at the seams, the actual duvet has some broken stitching, couldn’t be bothered to review or complain. The duvet fits in my 10kg machine and dries quickly. Would I buy a winter one? No. May possibly buy summer ones again. But the quality isn’t what I expected.
