To think coverless duvets seem like a good idea?

Just go in the washing machine when dirty. Use with a sheet and a bedspread. The thought of no longer wrestling with duvet covers and not having them hanging over the banisters and shower door drying is quite enticing. Anyone got one and would you recommend?

10.5 tog one fits in our 8kg washing machine.

fallfallfall · 26/09/2022 14:08

Back in the day they were called comforters.
yes washing and drying means a large drum machine (North America).
I have duvets currently the covers are always a mess :(,
I wash and dry my duvets seasonally so need a big machine anyway.

lovemelongtime · 26/09/2022 14:02

But don't you need a massive washing machine? Our mattress topper doesn't even fit in our standard machine, so a duvet deffo wouldn't. Large king size bed.

I’d have thought so, our king size bed sheets only just fit into one wash load so I don’t think a whole duvet would fit in our machine.

Babyitstimetomoveon · 26/09/2022 14:09

Ours are utopia ones from amazon and they were much cheaper than the ones in you link op.

Never claimed they were a new invention. What is up with everyone today? I remember the old style quilts but unlike the continental style they didn’t cover the whole bed and were not a substitute for blankets.

Sorry - I read the copy on the website you linked and mixed it up with your own post.

The old style ones did cover the whole bed though - at least the ones we had did. They stuck out over the edges and then the bedspread covered the lot. Had a tendency to become unbalanced and slip off the bed, causing a sudden remake of the bed at 3am.

Unless you're including the pillows, but none of my duvets cover that area either.

Ours is king size.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 26/09/2022 14:16

I've got this one from the website you linked to. It's the 10.5 tog king size. It fits in the 8kg washing machine I have (N.B. It's a brand new Samsung machine and only works on the Duvet setting- comes out soaking otherwise) It also matches my little greene kitchen green paint nicely.

Been a godsend during stuffy nights as it's so light and comfortable. In winter, we add another layer (patchwork quilt on top or teddy blanket) At Christmas, I deem it worth the hassle of wrestling and put my scandi style winter / Christmas cover on.

We have them for camping, and they are great (although they melt if you take them round the fire and a spark flies, as DD discovered unfortunately).

However, I don't know if we have an unusually small washing machine, but they don't fit properly into ours with the result they don't move about enough to wash properly. I think ours are king size so maybe double would be ok, but I am reluctantly planning a trip to the laundrette, which is more of a pain than changing the cover.

Gosh people are being touchy about duvets aren't they. Like they are a new invention.... the Chinese had them in 3000 BC! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duvet#:~:text=Records%20show%20the%20earliest%20duvets,though%20not%20by%20their%20courtiers.

I am disabled, and they are a bloody miracle in my book. For all those who think that putting a cover on a duvet on your own is easy-peasy, perhaps they should try it when they can't stand up for more than a few seconds without falling over when you can't also grip walking sticks with the two other hands that you don't have.

I got mine off Amazon a few years ago, and I can't even recall the brand now. They wash and dry very easily, and I have a thin quilted cover over the top (which no, doesn't slip off). This also means that I can vary the amount of bedding very quickly - just whip the quilt or the duvet off depending on the ambient temperature, so no faffing with weights and combinations.

Like anything else, different things suit different people. I wouldn't be without mine and highly recommend it. It may not be for everyone. But then I don't like chocolate, but I don't find any need to have a go at people who like it.

QuietYou · 26/09/2022 14:22

I like the idea of them but have concerns.

Just go in the washing machine when dirty.
I can't fit a normal single duvet in my machine so not convinced I could fit a king size one.

Use with a sheet and a bedspread.
Why do you need a bedspread (is that a blanket?) aren't they very warm?

The thought of no longer wrestling with duvet covers and not having them hanging over the banisters and shower door drying is quite enticing.
Surely you're just going to have the sheet, duvet and bedspread drying over the bannister instead.

Wonder if you post this on the 90000 daily air fryer threads Grin

I’m not an employee of the company or a shareholder. It just came up on my Facebook feed and I thought I’d find out what Mumsnet thinks. There are threads about various consumer products on here all the time, what is the big deal??

That's kind of uncalled for. There are 300 threads about air fryers - do you go around claiming people are making up reviews for the company? If you think a post is untrue, report it. Don't start throwing around foolish allegations. If you don't like coverless duvets, knock yourself out and do what you want. Someone asked a question and are getting answers. From everyone except you.

We had these in the 70s!

Was just thinking this! Sheets, blankets and a cover. Funny how things come back round.

diddl · 26/09/2022 14:31

But here has always been an option to not use duvet covers & just sling a sheet under & some cover on top!

Therefore same could be said of Recommendations on the style and beauty boards, or recommendations about a make of pram.

Given that people have mentioned various different brands (and the one I recommended is currently out of stock) I reckon I'd take it at face value myself.

Not if you have a goose down duvet...

Roselilly36 · 26/09/2022 14:35

I bought one in the summer, it’s ok, but poor quality, given the price, stitching breaking, the pillowcases that came with it wasn’t stitched properly, so a hole in the seam. The pluses, are they do dry quickly, we have a Superking version and it fits fine in my Bosch 10kg WM.

cookiecreammmpie · 26/09/2022 14:35

They're good but the downside is that they don't fit in the washing machine and need to be washed and dried in the launderette. Ive got a 9kg drum and a double duvet won't fit. This is a weekly thing ( teenage boy. Go figure).

A coverless one should definitely fit. My super king coverless fits in my 9kg machine! They aren't like normal duvets in terms of how much space they take.
